Cross-selling
Hi dear!
Iām back with the last post on Tumblr. The last subject Iām going to write about is cross-selling.Ā A cross-sellĀ is to get the customer to spend more money buy adding more products from other categories than the product being purchased. If you're buying a book on Amazon.com for example, you may be shown a list of books that similar to the one you've chosen or books purchased by other customers that bought the same book as you did. The most popular example of cross-selling is likely the often-spoken fast food phrase: "Would you like French fries with that?"
An upsell is to get the customer to spend more money ā buy a more expensive model of the same type of product, or add features that relate to the product in question.
The terms cross-sell and upsell are often mixed up, letās face it, this gets confusing.
For example, the customer sees a 4GB iPod Nano for ⬠199.
8 GB iPod Nano, ⬠259 -> Upsell, same product family, more expensive 8 GB iPod Touch, ⬠399 -> Upsell, same product family, more expensive 16 GB iPod Touch, ⬠499 -> Upsell, same product family, more expensive Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic , ⬠89 -> Cross-sell Skull Candy headphones, ⬠69, -> Cross-sell ⬠25 iTunes card -> Cross-sell
By making this example I wanted to show you the differents between cross-sell and upsell. I hope Iāve made my point.Ā Thanks for reading my marketing blog!Ā
Optical illusions in logos & websites
Hi dear!
Todayās post is going about the use of optical illusions in logos and websites.Ā
One of the main principles of both logo and website design is to be memorable to the target audience. An effective logo is one which will be strongly associated with a particular company, therefore raising brand awareness. Websites act as virtual store-fronts, designed with the intention of attracting potential clients and customers for a particular company.
Optical illusions can prove to be a valuable tool in grabbing viewers attention, be it with a brand logo. Such design methods have become increasingly popular in recent years, offering a way to transform a standard logo into an entertaining conundrum.
Real-world objects
The use of optical illusions for logos is really popular with real-world objects. With some planning and creativity, anything from a billboard to a bus can be turned into a giant optical illusion. One famous example of using this method to boost brand-awareness is superimposing images of cars onto larger vehicles. Using such techniques can be eye-catching and humorous.
Using real-world objects is one of the techniques. But there are more of them. Such as changing the familiar, contrast trickery, hidden text, and a matter of perspective.Ā
Optical illusions can have an impact on a target audience quite like no other images. With a pleasing logo that contains some form of illusion, companies can greatly increase their brand-awareness and improve their public image. There are many ways in which companies can use the power of optical illusions to their advantage.
I hope you enjoyed reading my 3th post. Unfortunatly this is the next to last post.Ā
See you next time!

Augmented reality
Jonas here with another post. Today I will be talking about augmented reality. Augmented reality is the most exciting kind of marketing for the future. I will begin with explaining augmented reality. Basically what it does is, it adds something virtual to the real world by using software. Ā There are a lot of different ways to do this but the most well-known way is by using your smartphone. There are lots of apps which provide augmented reality. What you have to do is simple, you open your app which uses your camera to display the real world and then virtual elements will be added on your display. Now how does marketing use this? The first time I was exposed to this new kind of marketing was through the IKEA catalog. The catalog contained pages with AR-codes on them. And each AR-code had a specific piece of furniture linked to it. You had to rip out the page and place it somewhere in your room you want to furnish. Next you open your app and it would show how the room would look with the new piece of furniture. Genius! There are so much more ways augmented reality is used. Check out this link for some nice examples.

Thatās it for todayās entry.Ā untill next time.
Tryvertising
Hi dear!Ā
Iām back and today Iām going to write my second post. I hope youāve enjoyed my first post about shockvertising. This post is going about tryvertising.Ā
Tryvertising (try-before-you-buy) is a brand new concept in advertising and marketing. It is the new marketing concept that exhibits costumer at the core in marketing process and is more effective than traditional approaches. It replaces mass advertising and is a new alternative to other marketing types. Tryvertising facilitates free shopping and sampling for costumers while manufacturers provide product samples before buying the actual product at the stores. Tryvertising is used as a research tool as it helps to get honest feedback on the product from the trysumers. Because in tryvertising the costumer is directly targeted and users are in direct relationship with the company for who they test.
Another emerging tryvertising model is parties or social events devoted to product sampling. In short it is Tupperware party with a more interactive and no hard sell.
What NIKE did! Nike is sending vans stocked with over 1000 pairs of shoes to meet people where they run and offer them the opportunity to test a new pair of Nikes. By strategically showing up at popular running spots and athletic events, Nike can bring their experience directly to the people who need it the most.
If you want to make your own tryvertising, these are some tips to get started.
1. Be relevant to the costumer 2. Research your target audience 3. Maximise word-of-mouth concept
Good luck and see you next time!
Shockvertising
HI dear!Ā
This is mine first blog ever made on Tumblr. So I hope youāll like it!
Iāll start with a little introduction. Iām Yanti and Iām passionated by marketing. I know marketing is a very wide spectrum, thatās why Iām going to write about specific marketing subjects over a few posts.Ā
This post is going about shockvertising or shock advertising. Those kind of advertising uses concepts that violates social norms or general personal ideals. Such kind of advertisement Ā is genereally used toĀ āshockā the audience and create a buzz about the advertisement.Ā
Shockvertising use disturbing, controversial and provocative messages that challange the publicās conventional understanding of the social order. It may not only offend but can also frighten the audience, to sell a product or deliver a public service message.Ā
Costumers are more likely to remenber shocking advertising over advertising that is not shocking. But if a costumer finds a certain kind of advertising threatening or disturbing, the messages will be filtered out!
This is an example of a shock advertising. I have to say, looking at these advertisment makes you wonder what kind of lifestyle Deutsch MagazineĀ promotes. Is 'animal-love' the new hip international lifestyle these days and I did not know?
This advertisment campaign does not hold back on the shock value. The advertisment depict a dog getting intimate and carnal with a blond young woman. But it does so in style.Ā
I hope youāve enjoyed my first post. Thanks for reading and weāll be in touch with each other with the next posts.Ā
Smart billboards
Hey everyone itās jonas here and i am back with another post
Todayās entry will be a little bit different. Instead of really explaining a marketing trend we will mostly be looking at some very nice examples of the trend I am posting about today.
In todayās post we will be looking at smart billboards. These arenāt your everyday billboards you mostly see. Most of the time people just walk by billboards and barely even look at or notice them. Marketeers are trying to change this and they are doing that by making their billboards smart. They do this in all kinds of ways.
A first example in which way marketeers differ their billboard from the old boring ones is by making use of their environment. The billboard becomes a lot more interesting because it is so creatively made.
Another example of how billboards become smart is by making the billboards react to who is looking at them, what kind of room they or whatās happening nearby. A very nice example of this kind of billboard is one made for Porsche. A camera located a few hundred meters Ā ahead of the billboard. The camera is programmed to spot Porsches. When normal traffic is passing by the billboard will show regular adds, but when a Porsche is passing by the billboard will display a message to the Porsche driver.
Mobile marketing
Hello everyone,
Iām honored that you are here again for reading our blog. Today I will explain you my fourth marketing style, mobile marketing.
Mobile marketing is marketing on or with a mobile device, such as a smart Phone. Mobile marketing can provide customers with time and location sensitive, personalized information that promotes goods, services and ideas. Marketing through cellphones' SMS (Short Message Service) became increasingly popular in the early 2000s in Europe and some parts of Asia when businesses started to collect mobile phone numbers and send off wanted (or unwanted) content. On average, SMS messages are read within four minutes, making them highly convertible. Mobile marketing via SMS has expanded rapidly in Europe and Asia as a new channel to reach the consumer. SMS initially received negative media coverage in many parts of Europe for being a new form of spam as some advertisers purchased lists and sent unsolicited content to consumer's phones; however, as guidelines are put in place by the mobile operators, SMS has become the most popular branch of the Mobile Marketing industry with several 100 million advertising SMS sent out every month in Europe alone.
These were my 4 different marketing styles. I hope that you enjoyed and learned something more about these marketing styles. See you next time.

Guerilla marketing
Hello everyone, Iām honored that you are here again for reading our blog. Today I will explain you my third marketing style.
Guerrilla marketing was a concept of advertisement strategy designed for small businesses to promote their products or services in an unconventional way with little budget to spend. This involves high energy and imagination focusing on grasping the attention of the public in more personal and memorable level. Some large companies use unconventional advertisement techniques, proclaiming to be guerrilla marketing but those companies will have larger budget and the brand is already visible. The main point of guerrilla marketing is that the activities are done exclusively on the streets or other public places, such as shopping centers, parks or beaches with maximum people access so as to attract much audience. Unlike typical public marketing campaigns that utilize billboards, guerrilla marketing involves the application of multiple techniques and practices in order to establish direct contact with the customers. One of the goals of this interaction is to cause an emotional reaction in the clients and the final goal of marketing is to get people to remember brands in a different way than they are used to . The technique involves from flyer distribution in public spaces to creating an operation at major event or festival mostly without directly connecting to the event but using the opportunity. The challenge with any guerrilla marketing campaign is to find the correct place and time to do the operation without getting involved in legal issues. The different types of guerrilla marketing are: Ambient, Ambush, Stealth, viral and the new concept called Street Marketing.

IAds
Hello everyone,
Iām honored that you are here again for reading our blog. Today I will explain you my second marketing style IAds.
iAd is a mobile advertising platform developed by Apple Inc. for its iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad line of mobile devices allowing third-party developers to directly embed advertisements into their applications. The iAd platform is expected to compete with Google's AdMob mobile advertising service. Similar to AdMob, iAd facilitates integrating advertisements into applications sold on the iOS App Store. If the user taps on an iAd banner, a full-screen advertisement appears within the application, unlike other ads that send the user into the Safari web browser. Ads are promised to be more interactive than on other advertising services, and users will able to close them at any time, returning to where they left their app. Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs initially indicated that Apple would retain 40% of the ad revenue, in line with what he called "industry standard", with the other 60% going to the developers. The amount paid to developers has since been increased to 70%. iAd is expected to benefit free applications as well. This was my second marketing style, I hope that I triggered you to you use this marketing style also at your job or school.Ā
Tomorrow I will explain another marketing style, this one will be Guerrilla marketing. See you next time and feel free to ask me some questions or responses.
EDM without music
Hello, so as you may have noticed this blog is run by more then one person. In fact we consist of a group of four. i am the third person who will be blogging about trends in marketing. My name is Jonas and todays trend is EDM or event driven marketing.
Event-driven marketing is a kind of marketing we once all had experiences with. Ever had a letter or mail from a company offering you a birthday present discount a few weeks before your birthday? Well thatās a very common example of event-driven marketing. Let me explain, in the context of event-driven marketing an āeventā is a detectable change in a personās life either in fact or in their mind. Some of these events are a reason for companies to communicate with the costumer, with a relevant offer. But thatās not all, by keeping track of these events the companies also increase their knowledge about a costumer which makes it even more easy for a marketer to make relevant offers. The most productive marketing message is one that is relevant to the costumers needs and based on whatās going on in their life at the moment, at least thatās the theory behind event-driven marketing. To see if this is true the results from implementing Event-driven marketing are compared to normal targeted direct marketing and the difference is significant. The average positive costumer response rate for Event driven marketing is 34% compared to 4% response rate for direct marketing. I hope this was interesting, until next blog post.
Buzz marketing
Hello everyone,Ā
My name is Kristof De Clercq and I am 23 years. Today I will start to explain my first marketing style, Buzz marketing. I read a book about this topic and I found it very interesting and I want to share my positive experience. I hope that you all learn something new about Buzz marketing.
Marketing buzz or simply buzz is a term used in viral marketing. Buzz is the interaction of consumers and users of a product or service which amplifies or alters the original marketing message. This emotion, energy, excitement, or anticipation about a product or service can be positive or negative. Buzz can be generated by intentional marketing activities by the brand owner or it can be the result of an independent event that enters public awareness through social or traditional media. Buzz Marketing originally referred to oral communication but the social media such as Facebook and Twitter are now the dominant communication channels for marketing buzz. Some of the common tactics used to create buzz include building suspense around a launch or event, creating a controversy, or reaching out to bloggers and social media influencers. Social media participants in any particular virtual community can be divided into three segments: influencers, individuals, and consumers. Influencers amplify both positive and negative messages to the target audience, often because of their reputation within the community. Therefore a successful social media campaign must find and engage with influencers that are positively inclined to the brand, providing them with product information and incentives to forward it on to the community. Individuals are members of the community who find value in absorbing the content and interacting with other members. The purpose of the marketing strategy is ultimately to turn individuals into the third group, consumers, who actually purchase the product in the real world and then develop brand loyalty that forms the basis for ongoing positive marketing buzz. The challenge for the marketer is to understand the potentially complex dynamics of the virtual community and be able to use them effectively. This was my first marketing style, I hope that I triggered you to you use this marketing style at your job or school.Ā
Tomorrow I will explain another marketing style, this one will be IAds.
