Just saw a fanart that reminded me of one of my oldest, most adored headcanons about Tails.

That poor boy doesn't know how to act his age. I hc that whenever he's around Charmy or Cream, or really anyone else his age, he just becomes anxious, but not in like a jittery way. He'll become like a husk and super detached to his surroundings because he's just overthinking every little thing.

His body language, the way he speaks, even how he interacts with adults when he's around the other kids his age. He can see how they differ from him, and he doesn't understand why he can't just act like a kid.

So he goes to Sonic when he feels that way, cuz with Sonic, he can act like himself. He can remind himself that he's not weird for having a different upbringing than the other kiddos.

YESSSSS, I truly believe in that moment of adrenaline when fighting that he doesn't recognize them as a villain with FLESH. Obviously though he gets put of that mentality pretty quickly
