I’ve loved living here. I’ve painstakingly decorated every nook, every cranny… thanks to our transfer station, goodwill and marketplace. Came back to the lower 48 with nothing and now trying to think of how I will move it all. Alas, there is no one here anymore to leave tiny surprises for. Not in the bathroom or shower stalls, walls or the halls. As love doesn’t live here anymore 💔 I was going to leave them up if I got to stay but it will be goodbye instead. That said, let’s start with the child. (Giant decals are harder to apply than you think, especially trying to get them up in a time crunch of someone driving home lol) I think I’ll document the house here for memories and beyond. All good stories start with “So I met this guy in the parking lot of Big Y” When David was rushed to emergency I was with my daughter who was up here for Christmas. Yale wouldn’t let her visit because she wasn’t 18. They also had strict Covid policies of only two visitors a day and it had to be the same two! She was tossed around to my cousin and hustled to the airport and it really sucked for her too. What’s worse is… Addison never got to say goodbye to David. Someone she loved like a stepdad who had been in her life for 10 years. David’s parents took everything he owned home to NC with them and I really had nothing to give her of his as I had very little left myself either. A tshirt? Hat? No. Out of all of David’s instruments I managed to keep one, David’s acoustic guitar, the one he let her play while she was here. However no hard case or anything to ship it to her. I put out a post on Marketplace and CTs free lists and got amazing support! So I met a guy in the Big Y parking lot… and he drove all the way from Litchfield to deliver this beautiful, more than I expected Guitar Hardcase! I was really just like anyone’s closet, beat up hardcase would do. This is more than a closet case. On top of that he brought me local maple syrup from Litchfield! He wouldn’t even take my gas money I offered. Dear David you’d laugh to know as we loaded the case he looked at me and said “ Oh, so your from down south!?” I guess I’ll just embrace it now as I will never escape it. I’ve actually become prouder of it for some reason since I’ve been gone. Good people! The deer have been back in the yard. I always thought it was the dogs keeping them away. Perhaps it was actually David outside most days and the smell of smoke. I haven’t done anything different. So glad I ran out to the New Britain Museum of American Art today to see the Ansel Adams exhibit and other greats from Wyeth etc. before the crap weather on the weekend again. Some impressive art in there… sharing a few of my favorites from today. The luminance artists were stunning, and found myself spellbound by the assemblage work. My ring came in yesterday on the day of David’s memorial. You’d never know that this is cremains jewelry. The Opal is so beautiful. I didn’t know you could crush and set Opal … the lovely person doing it sent me step by step on the process and what it looked like… from setting ashes to the Opal overlay…which was fascinating and unique! The color is from both our birthstones Tanzanite, blue topaz, blue zirconia, turquoise, for our December birthdays. I tried to find the closest match! The gold version was stunning, and more expensive but I figure I really wear more silver. So I’d get the silver first then maybe I can add the gold later! Don’t judge the hands… that’s a fighter’s hands, we all know I’ve never been ultra fem! Boxer’s twisted fingers are gonna gnarl up with my vulture eye when I pass the ancient threshold of banshee of Killingworth … but the ring will still be beautiful! Lol I have to thank Cremation Creations and Ken for such a professional experience and a stunning outcome. This captivating piece of artwork of David was a gift by Melissa LaRose and Joseph Alexander! I can not believe the talent this person, pyrography artist, Christa Meyers @julu.creations has! It seriously brought me to tears! The thought put into the gift and to be on wood, to honor David realizing his woodworking dreams leaves me speechless! The two wood birds are Alice and families … done by one of her in-laws. Also jaw dropping! Heavy envy! And a lil’ Lucille presence by her son who’s very talented at iron work as well!
