“I am trying to see things in perspective. My dog wants a bite of my peanut butter chocolate chip bagel. I know she cannot have this, because chocolate makes dogs very sick. My dog does not understand this. She pouts and wraps herself around my leg like a scarf and purrs and tries to convince me to give her just a tiny bit. When I do not give in, she eventually gives up and lays in the corner, under the piano, drooping and sad. I hope the universe has my best interest in mind like I have my dog’s. When I want something with my whole being, and the universe withholds it from me, I hope the universe thinks to herself: “Silly girl. She thinks this is what she wants, but she does not understand how it will hurt.”
— THEORIES ABOUT THE UNIVERSE by Blythe Baird (via blythebrooklyn)
ex-friendship.
I drive past an exit on the highway I’ve never taken before. Its name is familiar to me only because I know it was your childhood home. The sign conjures up an old photo you shared with me, young, brown, smiling up at the camera, not knowing that one day we were going to be best friends, and someday after that, you’d break my heart. I wonder if love is remembering inconsequential details about someone long after they’re gone. that photograph brings to mind many more, then brings tears to my eyes. sloppy pictures from young years, taken by a girl eager to document, sure that the photos would be sacred at some point, a monument on friendship’s altar. who was it again that hurt me? the highway zips by. I drive and I drive and I drive.

Tumblr, how I missed you
I'm ready for a new era of social media. Out with the Facebook, in with the Tmblr.
“🍁 Waiting for Ramadaan to arrive to start preparing for it is like waiting for exam day to start studying for it. We have entered the sacred month of Rajab which means we should start preparing for Ramadaan now. Sh. Abu Bakr Al-Balkhee said: “The month of Rajab is the month of planting. The month of Sha'baan is the month of watering. The month of Ramadaan is the month of harvesting.””

allow me to vent a little bit (and its been a long time since i’ve posted something on tumblr, so hi).
We’re now 5 days into the new year and by now I would assume that about 50% of people have thought up of some new years resolutions, or at least wrote some goals down that they hope they’ll stick with this year. And usually every year, I’m part of that 50%. And planned to be for this year. Except you know what? No matter how many goals I write down, or projects I want to finish, or things i want to do, there’s always one little problem that holds me back.
My laziness.
Not surprised? You shouldn’t be. Laziness is in human nature - it’s an inherent part of everyone. No one should feel guilty of being lazy once in awhile, especially if you work hard on a day to day basis. But the laziness that I’m talking about, that I’m dealing with, is one that affects me in every single aspect of my life.
Have work to do on the computer? Let me sit on the couch instead of the $200 desk that I bought just so I could be more comfortable. Have lunch to make for tomorrow? Let me throw a peanut butter and jelly sandwich together instead of making a better and perhaps more healthier alternative for lunch. Need to go to the gym? Let me cut my sets and reps short so I can get home in time and bum out on the couch in front of the TV.
These are just little things though. When you take this to a higher level...
Need to work on a creative project? Nah, I want to relax and watch TV, I can do it tomorrow. Need to apply to jobs that are better than the mudane 9-5 one that I have now? Nah, I’m too scared to apply, and besides it’s going to take forever to look at each job posting and come up with questions and answers for interviews, and practice coding questions, and...I’ll just do it later.
See what I mean? I’ve been stuck in this loophole for as far back as I can remember, and there are days when I’m driving home from work and feel so frustrated with myself because all I feel like I’m doing is going to a boring job that doesn’t really motivate me anymore, going to the gym, coming home to eat a late dinner and going to bed to do it all over again. And then when I do get opportunities to actually do something different, something more productive, I throw myself on the couch and go to sleep, hoping my fears of stepping out of my comfort zone will disappear in my dreams.
I know that my goals for 2018 are focused on two main things - get fit at the gym and eat healthier and get a new job. But if I’m going to continue to carry this lazy behavior with everything that I do in my life, I won’t get anywhere.
I just wish I had a better sense of how valuable my time is. If I could do that, then maybe it would be easier to discipline myself to wake up early, get things done, and save my lazy days for when they’re really worth it.

Apply for that job. Date that person. Buy that plane ticket. Move to that city. Do all the things scare you, because they’re worth it.

You don’t have to prove your truth. You can simply live it and your life itself will be the proof.
