I am so fucking tired.

#for obvious reasons #and less obvious ones #but I’m worried and angry and exhausted #both from the general state of things and because of the dogs’ calamities and my own #I feel like I should try to leave before I never get the chance again #but is this just giving up?#there is no good answer here.

Best go vote add I’ve seen, maybe ever

I remember posting this back in 2020, not even intending the message to be “go vote”. The last photo was chosen among many others simply because it was a nice visual conclusion to the preceding chaos. The post was made many months before the election, and I had intended more to speak to the overall terrifying political climate of 2020 and all the small things we were doing to fight back and make changes that year.

But upon posting this, I received over 400 asks (I stopped counting) from different people demanding that I take the post down, telling me how dare I suggest that people vote in this political climate, and even several dozen anonymous asks threatening to attack/kill me for “spreading nationalistic propaganda”

It’s hard to remember, but that was the general sentiment around the election online in 2020: Rampant disinformation. Large-scale campaigns dissuading people from voting. Hundreds of negative comments on any post that even MENTIONED voting. You couldn’t get away.

But this election? It’s night and day. While I’m sure there’s still some people whining in a sad dark corner somewhere that moral purity is dead and they’re the last chosen saints of leftism, etc etc, the vast, VAST majority of people have zero tolerance for that bullshit this time around.

We are voting. We are talking to our friends and family about voting. We are reading the actual news and trying to cut through BS online quick-takes. We are getting people to the polls and donating to Harris and standing in line with others waiting to vote.

I’ve voted in every primary and election since I turned 18, but I have never seen young people voting on this level before. It’s truly mind-boggling just how much the younger voting block has mobilized in this election. This is the kind of thing that can change a nation if we let it.

Honestly, regardless of how the election turns out tomorrow, everybody should be so proud of what we tried to accomplish here. Keep up the good fight.

Worried for my old guy, Ven. He will turn 12 in a month but the last few months he has been very frail and this week he just seems to be all bones. I’m afraid he won’t see his 13th birthday, as he has given me the “not much longer” feeling that I had about Kai and Scream prior to their departures. The last year of being an only dog for the first time ever has not treated him well and he seems to have aged a decade in the last 14 months. He perks up quite a bit when my dogs are over, and I am really trying to encourage my parents to get him a cat companion; but I just worry that it will be loneliness that does him in as opposed to his reckless youth finally catching up to him.

My poor old boy, he’s just such a good dog.

Update: he turned 13 today, is pretty blind, pretty deaf, and has some old dog diseases, but is still kickin.

My favorite, most "fur-mommy" bit i do for myself is calling my dogs kids/children. Not like they are children, but in the same way a very tired teacher who refers to their class of kindergarteners as their kids. They are not my children, but they are children and they are mine.

Genuinely can't relate to all the people in dog-related professions say they don't like xyz breed or can't stand abc dogs.

I like all dogs. I am able to tell the difference between dogs that aren't my type, dogs that need better training or management, and "bad dogs". It is so sad and weird seeing people happily proclaiming on the internet that "I hate [insert dog breed here]. They're [insert derogatory comment here] and all owners of them got duped/are idiots/shouldn't own any pets."

Like, if you can't treat every dog and their owner with kindness and respect regardless of your own prejudices, you should not be in an animal profession. Full stop.

#this is explicitly about dog groomers who adoringly tolerate poodles who snap at them or yank their feet away from nail trims #but choose to berate doodles for not wanting to stand up for 1+ hour on a table or just generally being anxious & uncomfy #with a very invasive and high-anxiety situation such as grooming #or dog trainers who specifically do b-mod and claim all doodles are neurotic bc the 10 they see a year have separation anxiety #or are frustrated greeters #when - shockingly- all the dogs a b-mod trainer sees are dogs who need bmod #or all the vet/vet staff who gleefully make tiktoks about how someone owning a frenchie is automatically so disgusting #or way less attractive or just a shitty owner because god forbid the frenchies exist!#or all the people on the internet who clutch their pearls whe Joe Q Public goes to TSC with their family lab mix and the dog is overaroused #not in a perfect llw and is stressed #like god forbid dogs that are owned by people who do not know everything about dog care exist in public #i just like dogs man i dont get what benefit you receive from being a major buttmunch about dogs who arent up to whatever ambiguous #and assinine standard someone may have #possibly delete later #idk. just one of hundreds of reasons ive distanced myself and am trying to distance myself from Internet Dog People
