so @vilkas, @strosmkai-rum, and i were talking and we thought an easy and convenient way to get people on tesblr more connected would be to make an easily accessible directory! it's just a simple google form & sheet, but it takes out the awkward "I want to find more people in the fandom but I don't know where to start" phase. i also figured it'll be helpful since the tagging system is a disaster zone right now.

The idea of an Elder Scrolls directory to connect fans is really nice and well-intentioned, but in effect, by using Google, this is creating a list of fans’ full real names for easy doxxing. Given some of the nastiness in fandom from time to time, I don’t think anyone should be doing this until another format is found.

i appreciate the concern, but people will only be asked for their aliases, I never ask for emails, and current viewers of the sheet are shown as anonymous animals, so at no point should you be able to see anyone's real names unless they volunteer it (which so far no one has). that said, i totally respect anyone who still feels uncomfortable with it so obviously no pressure at all to do it!

I haven’t been on tumblr for a long time but someone asked me about Talos and the Nords after reading your post here. In general, I think this is an important point that fandom needs to think about more often when exploring cultures in TES and other fictional worlds. With TES, I think it matches the rise of Tiber Septim and his propaganda about the pure Atmoran roots of human Tamriel very well.

In this case, though, the Stormcloaks aren’t factually incorrect here. (Simplistic, yes.) I notice you wrote in the notes.

Those tesblrs are wrong, though the misinterpretation is kind of understandable. Talos has been an important part of Nord religion since pre-Morrowind development. Skyrim dropped the ball on traditional Nord religion, but Talos wasn’t actually one of the changes.
