Bucky’s on top of him again, and, this time, Sam can’t ignore the way his heart flips and his stomach swoops when Bucky ends up between his legs. Again. Because they always find themselves here, it seems, closer than what Sam wants, not but entirely opposed to.

That’s what happens when you’re still in that rocky, uncharted territory of friendship, he guesses, tiptoeing around each other and your blooming feelings because Sam can’t deny that no matter how hard he wants to clock Bucky in the jaw sometimes, especially now since it’s entirely his fault that they had to bail from the plane, Sam also wouldn’t mind kissing him after.

sam and bucky attend a concert for one of sam's favorite artists and they spend a good chunk of the night just dancing, listening to music. having a good time. they're in a mass of bodies, standing shoulder to shoulder, until someone blocks sam's view of the artist and he huffs a curse under his breath.

bucky sees this because he notices everything when it comes to sam, so he pulls sam in front of him, leads him into standing at an unblocked angle with gentle hands on his hips.

sam's breath hitches, like it always does when bucky touches him, and settles there, in front of him, with the heat from bucky's chest seeping into sam's back. they're not even remotely touching anymore but sam feels like every molecule in his body is seconds away from exploding.

they enjoy the rest of the set like that, with bucky standing behind sam like some sort of guard dog, and sam trying his damn hardest not to dance too close to bucky's front because he's too wound up to not make a noise the second his ass makes contact with bucky's crotch.

but, again, because it's a concert so of course everyone is pressed balls to walls, someone crosses in front of sam, and bucky immediately pulls him back, loops his metal arm around sam's middle and presses their bodies so closely together, sam thinks a spark goes off at every point of contact between them.

almost like an afterthought, bucky stiffens, and he makes to pull away, to put distance between them, but—

no. that won't do.

sam circles his wrist with enough force to make him stay, then he grabs bucky's other hand and leads it around his waist until sam is completely enclosed in bucky's arms. he feels bucky splay his fingers across his abdomen before committing, before he presses sam entirely to his front and holds him there, sways to the music pounding from the speakers overhead.

"sammy..." bucky whispers close to his ear, almost like a question. he's not asking anything, but sam still answers nonetheless.

"it's okay," sam says, turning his head so he can fit his nose against bucky's cheek, skates his lips along the stubble of his jaw as he says, "be here with me."

it's loud and there's so many people and sam doesn't know if bucky heard him, doesn't know if bucky even wants this, but his doubt is soon flown out the window when bucky makes a sound and buries his face into sam's neck.

"always," he says.
