In my mind, Tiergan’s lion is actually a Coliseum lion that survived being used for a few venationes and then escaped in a flurry of bloody violence.  Tiergan came upon it while it was gravely injured in the deserts of Thanalan and nursed it back to help despite its many initial attempts to kill him for getting too close.  Put up a ‘scars’ and ‘no-scars’ version, because Tiergan DEFINITELY has scars, but man - the no scars version looks nice. :V
