“Hey, you were great. Don’t worry.” He reassured her. “If anything, I can send you the article so you can look at it before it’s published.” Ollie realized that it wasn’t normal for anyone not in the newspaper to look at articles that were not published yet, but lavender was a friend. Really, why would she leak an article about her own club? Ollie was a little disheartened when lavender said that her parents don’t even pick her up from the airport. “You’re kidding, right?” However, he would not be surprised her parents would consider fast food trashy food as they were probably the uppity wealthy types. “Even Gordon Ramsay likes in n out... if it’s good enough for him, it’s good enough for me.” Ollie realized not all kids have the same relationship he did with his parents. “You know... we’re both from California but we never even hung out there. We always talk it while we’re here though.” However, he realized they were two different people attending the same school. “Yeah, you should’ve ordered more... if you wanted.” He chuckled, “I feel like such a gentleman. All I have to say next is m’lady.”

“I may just have to add it and keep it for myself. I mean, a ghost looking in your bedroom window, not creepy at all,” she teased with a soft smile on her lips. She soon shrugged her shoulders to what he mentioned. “Yeah, I agree… somewhat. Sometimes they do it so you could get better. Or, they’re just trying to push you to be your best.” she softly responded. “But, I can see that you’re the pain in the ass kid,” she teased, hand tapping on her closed book, trying not to open it to look at the sketch again. “I’ve been there a few times. I just can’t focus lately, so it’s making my work suck.”
“don’t you just hate it when a ghost stares at you through your window?” ollie smirked. “don’t mind me, i’ve been watching too much buzzfeed unsolved.” he had a thoughtful expression on his face for a second. “actually, a lot of my professors are better than my high school teachers... i got detention a couple times for talking back to my teachers in high school. some of their classroom policies bordered on totalitarianism, totally unreasonable. so i said something and the rest is history.” he shrugged. “maybe you just need some divine inspiration. you can’t force creativity out of yourself... believe me, i’ve tried.”
Lavender’s hands were shaking under the table, she touched her knees nervously while she answered Ollie’s questions about being part of the Young Doctors Club but she kept professional with her answers, not making obvious show nervous she was. She smiled when he switched the tape recorder off and sighed softly. “I feel like I can finally breathe again. My Goddess! Thank God it was you interviewing me. Otherwise, I would be way more nervous than I already was.” She confessed, knowing him from California times made it easier but still hard for her to be interviewed. Lav picked a french fry and took it for her mouth, eating it as she giggled softly, nodding at him. “Food here is good but nothing compares to In N Out. It’s like they’re the gods of Burger. I’d kill for an In N Out Burger right now, honestly.”
throughout the interview, ollie noticed that lavender was quite fidgety. he understood that being interviewed was not always easy. “thanks for agreeing to the interview.” he continued, “yeah, journalists write the stuff but we still need our sources. otherwise, the newspaper would just be words on some gray paper.” ollie decided to conduct the interviews and write the article as it was a topic he chose. he was one of the more easygoing interviewers, surprisingly. “i think interview sounds too intimidating... i should’ve just asked you a question, but i wanted to make sure you were ready to gather your thoughts.” he wrote some last minute notes and placed his pen onto the notepad. he took a sip of his soda. “i always have in n out when i go home for break. it’s so funny because my mom and i go right after she picks me up from the airport.” he added, “fortunately, the food is pretty good here. lunch is on me, so enjoy it while you can.”
mun note: this doesn’t count towards the word count, but i wanted to mention this. ollie had his hair blonde until he was like 15, then the summer before junior year, he dyed it black. he was trying to be all ~angsty~
ollie was just a regular high school kid for the most part. even back then, he was outspoken, not afraid to express his opinions. he was heavily involved with his school newspaper. he was a theater kid during his junior year, but that eventually took a back seat to the newspaper. in a lot of ways, he was also reckless like many teenage boys were. he expressed his opinions without expecting any backlash. however, he referred to it as independent thought.

“ollie, where are you going to college? if you even believe in colleges.” his friend joked.
“hey, i still think colleges are like vampires preying upon the youth, but that doesn’t mean i don’t think education is important.” ollie continued, “maybe a public university like ucla. private schools come off as elitist societies. brown, on the other hand, doesn’t seem bad. emma watson went there.” of course, the last sentence was an amusing remark. ollie wanted to separate himself, but by trying to being an iconoclast, he was being arrogant as well. he would just roll his eyes whenever someone would mention that their dream school was princeton or some other ivy league school.
it was the season of college acceptances. many students were rejoicing, but a lot of them were also devastated. ollie already got accepted into some promising universities, including brown. he applied to yale university because his grandfather was an alumnus. he knew that there was a slim chance he would get accepted, given how competitive college admissions have been in the recent years.
it was a regular day. he got up for breakfast and brewed himself a cup of coffee. his parents had already left for work, and it had been months since he had seen her. mia, his older sister, was living with her boyfriend (now fiance) in new york. he was checking his e-mails on his smartphone. lo and behold, an email from yale university. not expecting much, he clicked the email. “fortunately, you have been accepted...” he blinked a couple times and grew wide-eyed. he immediately exclaimed, “WHAT!?” he mouthed “holy shit” under his breath. This was one of the things he thought would never happen in a million years. he joked with a couple friends about how hilarious it would be if he actually got into yale. when he told his parents, they were ecstatic and extremely proud of him. it was absolutely a no-brainer that he would be attending yale.
the rest of senior year was a haze: prom, graduation, parties. it was all starting to become a blur. then, he went backpacking in europe with his best friends during the summer. there was a lot of self-discovery.
months pass and it was finally time for him to leave for connecticut. at the airport, he hugged his parents. his mother rubbed his back as she embraced him. tears were definitely shed on her end. ollie was excited as this was the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
One would think that someone like ollie would find this boring, but he actually enjoyed interviewing others. For his latest piece, he decided to interview some of the members of the young doctors club or as he referred to them, the doctors of tomorrow. The tape recorder had been running. However, after lavender answered the last question, ollie switched it off. “See, I told you it wouldn’t be that bad. Super casual... no big deal.” They had an interview in a burger restaurant because ollie was all about killing two birds with one stone, lunch and an interview. He dipped his fry in ketchup and took a bite of it. “Man, the food here is pretty good but I miss California... I definitely miss In N Out.”

A small smile appeared on her lips at his comment. A ghost behind the window? She could see the humor in it, but she was sure her professor wouldn’t. “I would if I knew I wouldn’t get a failing grade for it,” she pointed out. Nodding at his words, she closed her book, keeping it on her lap. She knew that he was right, but she also felt like she would end up hating it come the morning. “If I end up ripping it up after looking at it again, I may just have to blame you for it,” she teased.
“oh, it’s for an assignment. nevermind i said anything.” ollie knew how strict some professors could get, and he would know because he would argue about his grades. “i wish some professors would chill out sometimes... like they don’t need to act pompous all the time...” he ran his fingers through his hair. “or maybe i’m just the kid who’s a pain in the ass.” he was amused by her remark. “hey, it’s all part of the creative process. i’ve definitely ripped up and deleted some of my stuff ‘cause i hated it after awhile.”
“What do you think?” Ophelia asked the person beside her as she continued to sketch a room on the piece of paper for her class. There had been many sketches like this before, but she never found one to feel completely right to her. “Is it too much, or too basic?” She questioned while her eyes continued to scan over the paper, pulling back, scrunching her nose at the image. “I just feel like it’s missing something, or I’m just overthinking it, which I’m prone to doing.” @yalestarters
Ollie thought the sketch looked amazing. However, he could not help but playfully jab, “you should draw a ghost behind the window... y’know, really liven things up.” If he were honest, she was overthinking it. Sometimes, it was best just to leave things as they were. “But seriously, just put it away for now and look at it again tomorrow. You just need to look at it with a fresh pair of eyes.” He shrugged. “That’s what I do with my writing. It makes all the difference.”
ollie was assuming she meant delta psi delta, the girls known for throwing the craziest parties. “Sure, as long as there’s free alcohol.” He added, “and obligatory drunk dancing. Always gotta have one of those.” A sly smirk appeared on his face as he started packing up his stuff.
