â  WHY WOULD I DO THAT when i donât need another bottle  ?  whatâs the matter  ?  afraid  a little ghost will pop out  &  scare you to death  ?  donât  worry , babe . the place isnât haunted . i already  checked  ,  â  he teases , holding on tightly to the to bottle like his life  depends  on it , even when she tries to pry it from his grasp again .  â  i  donât  know , you donât look very tough . donât feel very  tough  , either . youâre just too small .  â  he flashes her a crooked grin  &  bites his  lip  as he sways his body to make it harder for her to  take  it .  â  oh no , thatâs nasty shit .  &  i donât know how i  could  forget since she kept going on about it for three months after it happened . it  was  annoying .  â  he rolls his eyes but starts to make his  way  downstairs so he can get oli her own bottle . when heâs  back  , he passes it to her  &  takes a drink from his own , giving her a  look  that says  â are you happy now  ?  â .  â  whatâs been going on  with  you , anyway  ?  i feel like i only see you when you  wanna  get drunk . iâm starting to feel used .  â
âIâm not afraid of ghosts, you know that. What I really want is someone to come spend Halloween in LA with me so we can stay on the Queen Mary and get the shit scared out of us, but everyone is boring and already has plans here in the city.â Granted, Livâs Halloween plans were only set to take place in LA rather than NYC because she had an appearance to make and a performance to do, but she still had a certain sense of FOMO about not being home for the holiday. âPlease, Iâd be the one unexpectedly tough bitch in the horror movie that nobody expects to live. Iâd even have my cliche running through the woods in my underwear moment and still survive.â She mused confidently when he made fun of her for being small, tying it into what sheâd just brought up about not being phased by ghosts. âAw, are you really getting it for me?â She fawned exaggeratedly as she watched Atlas make his way toward the stairs so he could go down and get her her own bottle. When he reappeared with it and offered it to her she grinned up at him, taking it gratefully, âYouâre so nice sometimes, Iâm telling everyone. Gonna ruin your dickhead reputation.â She broke the seal on the brand new bottle as she twisted the cap open, using just one hand to lift the opening of it to her own mouth and take in that first heavy gulp of clear liquid, âThanks for remembering I like white rum, by the way.â She added after swallowing it down, then took just a couple of seconds to think up an answer to that question, âDunno, all work and no play makes Liv a dull girl. Guess I donât want that.â It was the simple version of an answer, but she figured given the vibe of their evening up to that point, it would probably do.

nahlasâ:
nahla gasped in horror, looking over at her friend wide-eyed, like the most terrifying thing ever had been told her, and in a way, in nahlaâs world ( who lived and breathed ballet ) it was the worst thing that could be told to her. â oh my god, liv are you insane ? no, of course not. wha kinds of community company do you think we are ?? â nahla questioned, flipping her hair over her shoulder with a dramatic flourish, â  we donât share them, no dancer ever shares their shoes, thatâs like⌠i donât know, sharing your toothbrush. the company gifts us as many pairs as we need, but you know, for each one of us, we donât share them. â the girl explained, though still feeling shiverig at the thought, just for a soft laugh to finally escape her glossy lips, â  i thought i was the one giving people nightmares but now i wonât be able to go to sleep in god knows in how long. â the brunette joked, inspectin a random pair of shoes before putting them back, giving her friend a glare. â  olivette ! not funny !! â she scolded almost in childish manner. though she was soon taking out her phone to check the musicalâs schedule, making math in her head as they usually did to find a way to see each other again, â  ok so you have opening on tuesday and i do on friday⌠four performances on the weekend ebut⌠we both have free the next monday. so⌠party on monday ? but at that point itâs probably gonna be more like girls night in because i donât know if iâm gonna have the energy to go out after that. â   nahla laughed, making a face at liv. â  well of course, iâm better than them. â she played.
Liv laughed a little too loud and with a little too much joy when she got the desired reaction of horror and slight disgust out of Nahla that sheâd wanted, wishing she had caught that hair flip she did right afterward on camera because it was so perfect. âI know, but the thought is so damn gross and you should have seen your face!â Their whole friendship Liv had been having moments like that, where she just appreciated how effortlessly gorgeous her friend looked while living her life, not even having the same âalways performingâ quality ingrained in her that she felt had been ingrained in herself to assist her in looking that way. Sure, Nahla moved with a poise and a grace that was unmistakably dancer, but all of her gestures and mannerisms always came off to Liv as so organic and requiring no thought, which was something that she, as an actress and therefor a bit of a mimic by nature, had always equally admired and lightheartedly envied. âHell yes, party that next Monday. I totally donât mind if we just stay in at mine or yours and celebrate, just order food and toast to us. Maybe Aylee and Serena will be down too to join us too.â She wanted to include Mai, but after the whole Halloween debacle between her and Aylee she didnât know how awkward that might be. âYou are better than them.â She laughed, âAlso I just kinda feel like, so many of my friendships are just on the surface because theyâre professional, you know what I mean? Makes me grateful for you girls. Donât ever feel like I have to be fake around you.â

âwhich is still shocking to me, considering all the shit iâve pulled throughout my life. not to mention the time i almost got arrested for starting a bar fight, but⌠iâm mentioning it,â he jested, trying to add some kind of lightheartedness into the suddenly tense atmosphere surrounding them. most of his exes held grudges against him, reasonably so as well, that often left him feeling hopeless in trying to make up for his past deeds that had hurt them. thankfully, liv isnât considered one of them. although things didnât work out between them, having her in his life still and proving to be one of the few people he could fall back on without hesitation makes him overjoyed. âmhm, i donât believe you. like, i get it, i broke out two weeks ago. but i like to think my skin is better now,â he huffed out childishly, though tilting his head back for her to do what she did best when it came to caring for oneself. besides, heâd be a fool to object; gabe always leaves her place with glowing skin and feeling more refreshed than he has in months. however, he could feel his heart pounding out of anxious nerves as he observed the facial reactions he was receiving from the platinum blonde. the reason this is eating at him? well, it hits far too close to home in regards to the car accident. every time he thinks of this, the dj gets thrown into a flashback when he was thirteen years oldâeagerly awaiting the arrival of his late parents, unaware that heâd be unable to see them again for the very last time. suddenly, his hands became clammy and he didnât even realize he was bouncing his leg up in down as he sat on the toilet seat. âthat doesnât mean iâm not somewhat responsible for it,â gabe mumbled out, feeling a familiar stinging in his eyes and rapidly blinking in order for it to subside, âi fucking knew he drove to the club though, liv, so i shouldâve known heâd get into his car and drive home. he couldâve killed someone and then itâd just⌠be a mess.â
Liv hesitated for a good long moment after the last thing that Gabe said hung in the air, the but interrupted her own thoughts by mustering up the words it took to get them out of that pause before it became pregnant and awkward. âWell you know that if you showed up so I can make you feel like a monster or like youâre a terrible person, you came to the wrong person and the wrong place, Gabriel.â She knew the trauma that the boy sitting in front of her had been through as a young teenager, heâd confided in her about it well before theyâd dated and sheâd always made a point of being someone that he could lean on emotionally, well after they werenât together anymore. So many people who dated when they were young and stupid in high school allowed petty past grudges to prevent them from continuing to care for one another, and she was glad to have never had that happen between her and Gabe, especially in moments like this. She noticed the nervous habits like the bouncing of his leg, the way he wrung his hands together, and decidedly held off on the face mask for the moment, instead leaning down to wrap her arms firmly around him, pulling him in toward her for a warm, protective hug as she rubbed over his shoulders and back. âTheyâre fine now. And it isnât your fault- none of it is your fault.â She spoke gently near his ear, âYouâre not a terrible person. Everyone does dumb shit, everyone makes choices that inadvertently hurt people sometimes. Doesnât write them off as terrible... sometimes, we just have to be grateful that things were only as bad as they were. Not guilt ourselves sick wondering how much worse they could have been.â She meant everything she was saying- years of training as a professional actress still couldnât have given her the ability to fake that kind of sincerity.Â
frcsierâ:
â ok, listen liv. this was a rush, you should try it. â mai announced after both of their laughs died down. â imagine a competition: who makes up the best excuse to ditch a date. â the girl continued, knowing that if her friend took her seriously they would go through with it and probably get into trouble. â i know, babe. â and she did. mai knew that liv would do anything for her, just like she would do anything for her best friend. the seriousness of the situation was dragging the mood down and the brunette could honestly hit herself for bringing it up. â but hey, i had some self defense classes and watched a lot of csi growing up, they wouldnât stand a chance against us. â she joked, trying to diffuse the tense mood. â and thatâs why i love you ! i also wish i could go with you to the anniversary, it would be so good. curse conflicting schedules, to be honest. â mai sighed, hating the fact that she couldnât tell liv about the movie yet. looking outside of the window just in time to see her date leaving the restaurant getting into a car. â ok, the coast is clear. iâll have to hang up and call for an uber. do you want me to get anything before i go to yours ? â
âOh my god, deal- I havenât done anything that savage in way too long, Iâm fucking down. Next guy I actually say yes to and regret it twenty minutes into the date, we are so doing this again and thatâs when the competition really begins.â Liv decided with a certain recognizable wickedness in her smile that translated into her tone. âAnd honestly youâre right, I feel like between the two of us we could actually kill a guy if we needed to, Iâm just sayinâ, like if a situation fully called for it, you know what I mean?â She sounded a little too casual about it, but with her attitude towards people who put others in situations where they had to defend themselves, her experiences as a woman, and her training in self defense and collection of self defense weapons, all of which she knew Mai was aware of, she didnât feel weird being that open about her opinions. âCurse conflicting schedules is the literal story of my life with how crazy this year has been, thatâs why this guy being boring was such a blessing in disguise, I get to have you for the night instead!â She straightened up, prepared to get up from the sofa and get ready for Mai to come over once they were off the phone, âOkay babes, see you in a bit! I donât think we need anything, I have champagne and Halloween candy, plus Iâm feeling like we can just drunk PostMates something.â After the two of them said their goodbyes and Liv had sent a follow up text telling her to tell her when she was on her way because Uber drivers can be creepy, she went about making up a little platter of cheese, crackers, and fruit for the two of them and dumping all of her candy into a pink glass bowl for easy access. She then went over to start picking movies from her cabinet, starting with Hocus Pocus.

âWell câmon with me to get my own then if youâre not gonna fucking share with me!â Liv reasoned after playfully swatting him across the arm when Atlas moved away from her to the other side of the terrace and tucked the bottle in close to his chest. âOh, is that a challenge? Iâm tougher than you think Deniro.â She called back playfully, sauntering right on up to him to make yet another attempt at wrapping her hand around the neck of the bottle and pulling it away from him, âYou so donât need to be getting your stomach pumped or anything, itâs really not fun. Remember when Alana almost died at my 18th birthday?â She reminded him, both as a genuine warning and because the theme of the evening seemed to be reminiscing on old times and stories involving people they either never or only rarely hung out with any more. She liked having Atlas as someone whoâd been a constant in her circle of friends since they were still in school, getting to watch each other grow up and evolve into ever-messier versions of themselves.Â
