Oliver didn't sign the Accords. The Justice League had talked about the government and their collective, or seemingly collective distrust of it many times. They had only formed because the government couldn't do what they did to protect the country and the world. They didn't own anyone anything and Oliver, in particular, felt that. He was entitled, it came with growing up rich. He felt it was his right to protect the people of Star City and now New York without government control. It wasn't like they would be able to help and an identity leak wasn't something that any of the League members needed or wanted. He still does vigilante work, making sure to keep out of the government's eye the best that he can.

âProbably,â Mia snorted at the thought. It shouldnât have been funny as it was but well, she knew Batman so it was kinda hilarious. âHmmm, maybe something un-alchohalic.â It wasnât necssarily fear but it was ALSO very much paranoia that made Mia hesitate to drink anything alchohlic. It wasnât like the substance was new to her she spent years as a prositute after all. Too paranoid, she knew, she couldnât help it (she wished she could). âNot even me? Oh Iâm so insulted Oli,â Mia giggled. âThough I think Lian may prefer Batman bandaids.â She joked. âA little, I saw her asleep the other day but didnât get to spend time with her. I was checking in on Roy.â
.
"Pick your poison." He replied when she requested something non-alcoholic. They had virgin drinks or soft drinks, but it was a decision only she could make. "You can put dinosaur band-aids on me or something," Oliver replied, not giving in. His granddaughter was special in a different way. "No Batman band-aids." He stood firm. "How was he?" Oliver asked after a second of silence.
Dinah just flashed Oliver a smile and shrugged her shoulders when he merely raised his eyebrows at her. âI was thinking of singing a few songs at Babs Keanâs club, and then maybe dance for the rest of the night,â she said. âI havenât told her Iâm coming, but that doesnât really matter. She loves to have me.â She grinned at Oliver again. âOh, yeah, and whoâs that?â she teased, looking over at him. Dinah went back to the couch and dropped down onto it, patting the cushion next to her. âCome sit with me,â she said, and gave him another look. âEverything okay, Ollie?â
.
"That's a shame." He replied, trying not to look disappointed, playing it off as a joke rather than the seriousness he felt. Men weren't allowed in Kean's club after a certain time, and he was sure that Dinah would be there well into the night. His plans had been shot down in the blink of an eye. Maybe Hal was free. "Everyone loves to have you, Pretty Bird." He didn't blame anyone that enjoyed having her around. She was everything. "Lian, of course. She was busy, though." He teased back. Oliver walked to the walk, sitting down where she patted. "Roy came home from rehab today." Enough said.
âYeah, this time. Watch out Oli, next time I might chip you.â That WAS a joke though. Mia had enough time under other peopleâs thumbs to be unwilling and unable to ever do that to a loved one, even tracking their whereabouts on aps and comms felt a type of icky to her. âOnly if I get to choose the bandaids,â She teased him. âI think Batman bandaids would do, donât you? Or Superman?â Mia laughed. âOr I mean we could always go Hello Kitty or full Disney Princess route too, take some from Lian.â She giggled at the thought. âYeah, same here.â Dinah was one of the best people Mia had ever known in her life. Without her, she would have never become the woman she currently was. It was all thanks to Dinah, and the man she was currently sitting right next to.
.
"I'm pretty sure Bruce already has." He only half-joked, not putting it past the man behind the Batman persona. "No way." Oliver refused, finally ordering his drink when the bartender noticed them. "Want something?" He offered to buy his daughter a drink. It was just an excuse to keep them there, spending time together a little longer. "The only one who's allowed to put Hello Kitty or Disney Princess band-aids on me is my granddaughter." If it would make Lian smile, he would let the little girl do it. "Have you seen her?"
he hated that look, that look that made roy want to run away. run as far away as he could. he knew he had to stop running though. he walked in and moved to sit in front of oliver. âmostly,â he admitted, rubbing his arms. âiâŚâ he cleared his throat. âiâm sorry, dad.â he didnât know what else to say. ââŚplease, donât drop me again. this time iâll be better.â he hates his therapist for making him talk about this with oliver.
.
Oliver's eyes followed Roy carefully as he walked, stopping in front of the couch and sitting down. Mostly was better than bad. That's what Dinah would tell him. Why wasn't she there? The blonde had always been better with Roy and his addiction. It wasn't until Roy called Oliver dad that his eyes left the younger man. This wasn't the first time they had had this conversation. Letting out a deep sigh, the archer ran his calloused fingers through his hair. Tugging on his blond locks, he tried to relieve the immediate aggression that bubbled to the surface. "You say this every time," was all that came out of his mouth.

Hal looked at the other smirking slightly âwow, that almost sounded sincereâ He replied before rolling his eyes. âReally? Iâm pretty sure you have a cape or two you could use to train the bull not to attack.â He mused looking at the other for a moment, he loved Ollie but sometimes the man could be a bit much. âI havenât heard much about the fish boy, but I do know that plenty of us are calling this place home. How is Kaldur? Did he seem worried?â
.
âMaybe it was.â Oliver replied, hiding a sly smile. âDonât bulls heed red though? Red isnât my color. Maybe I should have called Clark.â He replied with the after thought. âI guess so, but isnât it weird.â It was weird to him. âHe looked good. Like the kid always does. Yeah he did. Something about Roy.â He tried to hid his distress.Â
âIâll try,â She said, and the words were meant. But there was only so much trying that one could do when Mia loved Oliver as much as she did. Worry and concern was her love language. Sheâd seen too many bad things happen to too many good people for her to extend anything less then the intent to become involved. âMaybe a certain someone coming around with less injuries would help me out,â She nudged him playfully and the words were in jest. They were vigilantes, there was no world where they came around without injuries. âGood, Iâm glad to know my threats have the correct impact.â Mia joked with an ample smile to match. âYou know your tone makes it sound like I should be wary but the words themselves are a compliment.â She laughed. âIâm pretty sure Dinah is the wisest woman Iâve ever known.â
.
Trying was better than nothing and he was willing to take it. âHey! You came and found me this time.â Oliver tried to defend, feeling a small sting of guilt. Behind every joke was some amount of truth. Injuries were part of the hero gig. It was impossible to do what they did without a single scratch. âIâll start putting band-aids over every cut if you give me a heads up.â He only half joked, fully prepared to do it if it would put her at ease. âSheâs the wisest and smartest person I know.âÂ
@oliverthegreenarrowâ:Â I got a brand new attitude and Iâm gonna wear it tonight
âAnd I donât need you,â Dinah pointed at Oliver, âcoming in here and throwing my plans out of whack.â She was sitting on her couch, fastening the strap on her left shoe, and she stood up, facing Oliver and planting her hands on her hips. She flashed him a smile to mitigate the sting in her words and to show that she was joking â mostly. She really was planning on going out tonight and would be put out if she had to change her plans. âSo whatâs up?â she said, walking over to the mirror hanging in the front hall and running her fingers through her fair hair. âDo you need me for something?â
.
Oliverâs brows raised, looking at Dinahâs finger pointed towards him. He wasnât surprised by her reply. Dinah was a strong woman with an independent personality. It was one of the things he loved about her. âWhat are your plans? You look nice.â The blond said, finally getting a good look at her. She was beautiful as always. âI just wanted to spend some time with my favorite woman.â The truth was he needed a distraction from Roy and everything happening with him.Â
âIâm not sure. We usually speak a few times a week but I havenât heard from him. I was getting worried.â he frowned. âI was hoping you would have some insight? I know Lianâs mother has recently returned to the city. I just wanted to be sure he was alright.â Kaldur frowned. âPerhaps I should seek council with Jason.â
.
That wasnât good. Roy fell off with his friends when he relapsed. âI saw him a few days ago, but not since then.â Oliver told him honestly. He and his son had grown apart and it wasnât uncommon for them not to speak for days or weeks at a time. âJason might know more.âÂ
roy hadnât been able to keep his promise to oliver about going out for the family date - by then he had already relapsed and by that monday he was already in rehab. he had called ollie when he was admitted, not wanting him to worry too much about roy.
now roy was out and he walked into the house - a house that he usually avoided unless lian was involved. he was alone right now.
roy made his way through the house, finally finding the room ollie was in. he sighed, watching him for a moment before he spoke. âhey,â he gave a slight wave, leaning in the doorway. âuhâŚâ he cleared his throat. âsorry about that hospital bill.â
.
Hearing someone walk into the room, Oliver looked up from what he was doing. His eyes met Royâs and his features dropped, disappointment clear on his face. Roy would always deal with addiction; that was a fact that Oliver knew, but he couldnât help but wishing there was an end to the cycle. âItâs fine.â Oliver said, finally speaking. He had more than enough money to cover the bill. âDo you feel better?â

âApologies for showing up unannounced Oliver. I was hoping I could speak to you about Roy.If it is not a bad time?â he asked, tone serious as always. Even if Kaldur was having the best of times, his cadence always seemed to stay at the same level. âMy king is in Atlantis attending to his people. Garth is attending for him in my stead.â he assured Oliver.
.
âItâs fine, Kaldur.â Oliver wasnât upset that he hadnât been noticed that the Atlantean was going to be showing up. He was instead concerned that he was showing up at all. âWhat about Roy?â He asked, stomach dropping. The last time he had seen his son, he was doing good, but that always changed. âDid he relapse again?â
âi grew up with most of my heroes, one of them my dad always wanted me to meet so i guess not,â he gave a slight shrug. he couldnât imagine his dad looking like he lost after winning. it was so different. he wondered how much his dad actually kept from him growing up. he looked more human in the moment. so many fights connor felt like he lost when he âwonâ, he didnât think his dad knew how he felt. it was nice learning more about him. âmy mom is a shrink, i caught on to some things if you want to vent?â
.
âYour dad sounds like the kinda guy who was never told not to meet his heroes either.â Oliver sighed, pushing off the bar and leaning back into his tool. âI donât have anything to vent about.â He replied shortly. Oliver didnât make it a habit to vent to strangers, especially children. âDid you actually want something?â
roy hadnât thought that far ahead, he didnât even know what real families did. roy never really spent normal family time with ollie. not that he minded then, but, you canât take a toddler to fight crime. âlian likes that one museum where kids play with the exhibit? we can go there and then go get pizza.â itâs something he planned on taking lian to do anyway.
.
âThe childrenâs museum?â Oliver had no reason to visit on his own, but he would be willing to spend the day there if it was what his granddaughter wanted. There wasnât anything he wouldnât do for Lian. Pulling his phone out of his pocket, he brought the website for the museum up. âLooks like they make you pick a day. When do you want to take her?âÂ
âsweet,â he pocketed his hands, following after. he was thankful for oliver paying and he was thankful for oliver being easy on the money. he knew the temptation would be easier to fall into if he the money to outbid drug dealers being owned by jason. he knew oliver cared if he wasnât sure how to show it. âdâyah maybe want to do something next week?â he figured he should take the olive branch. âlian would love to see you⌠see us, in the same room.âââ
.
Oliver had to hide the shock on his face when Roy asked if he wanted to do something next week. It was out of character for either of them to ask about spending more time together. It was usually Dinahâs doing when they got together. He wasnât opposed to the opportunity to repair what damage he could with his though. âWhatâre you thinking?â Oliver would offer to pay for whatever it was he wanted to do. âI would love to see her too. Do you have something in mind?â
he shook his head, âno, i donât want anything.â well thats not true, he wanted his money back and just be with his dad. he missed his parents. he sat beside him, giving a slight shrug. âyouâve always been an inspiration to me. i figured with the fight you like you just got into you needed the reminder.â ââ
.
âGood because it has been an eventful enough night already.â He replied with a grateful sigh. âYou need better idols, kid. Hasnât anyone ever told you not to meet your heroes?â

Her smile was weak, but a smile nonetheless at his agreement. At least she got that one over on him, with the agreement of it to boot. It was kind of funny and sad in itâs own way, no amount of Iâm fine, Miaâs would do well of convincing her of the fact. Perhaps it was experience of hearing them form Roy during a relapse, or maybe her own experience of saying Iâm fine at the worst moments of her life, but she struggled to believe it. Even in the average moments, when Oliver wasnât injured, the words âIâm fineâ set off alarms in her mind. âGood.â She lifted her hand, he was a lot taller then her, and yet Mia still patted him on the head. It took some effort on her part, but she still did it. âIâm glad.â She added, her smile less weak then before. Still uncertain, but further relieved by the lack of head injury. He didnât sound fully convinced of the statement, but Mia liked to think if it was in the head itâd have become obvious by now. So it wasnât (probably, the worry nagged her still). âIâm glad you made that a promise,â She said. âCause if you break it Iâm totally holding it over your head for at least three years.â This time it was a joke, and the stronger smile showed just as much. âI know I do, at least Iâm self aware of my nagging.â
.
Oliver smiled at her when she patted him on the head. Coming from anyone else, the action would feel demeaning and irritate him to the ends of the earth, but not coming from her. He was his daughter in every sense of the word that mattered, and the head pat came off as endearing because of it. "Now, will you stop worrying so much about me?" He asked, knowing the answer was going to be, not even if she said yes. Mia worried about everyone in the family, Roy and Lian included. She cared, and that showed a lot more than Oliver's caring did. He was proud of her for that; that she didn't turn into him. She was better than he was. All of his children were, even Roy when he was doing well. "Okay, kiddo. I can't live with you breathing down my back for the next three years, so I guess I'll have to keep it. Yeah, well, you sound like Dinah now."
Hal chuckled, shaking his head at the other âYou are a joy to be aroundâ he mused he knew that Olllie never meant anything he said their friendship he withstood years and it always would. âYes well Iâm so glad you taught him the error of his ways through pain.â He smirked before rolling his eyes âI feel like that is my line? Given how much more trouble you get in compared to me Prince Ollie.â
.
âThank you.â Oliver winked at Hal, knowing that he was trying to poke fun at him. âHe was like a bull who wouldnât stop charging me. What was I supposed to do? Iâm not a matador.â He tried defending himself although he knew that Hal had a point. Oliver could jump the gun sometimes. Sometimes. âYou should have said it then. Seriously, though. I had Kaldur show up at my door without Arthur. Have you heard anything?â
