FM WAVES OF THE HEART

I don’t know, what if they’re on the hunt for extremely talented and cute ingenues? I’m in big trouble, Liam. What perplexes me is the fact that there are literally so many of them. Where are they coming from in the first place? Do we- the Rangers, I mean, need to find some sort of nest that they’re coming out of and destroy it? Despite my concerns about the lizardmen and, well, regular men who maybe want to break into my unit and rob me, I’m super excited! My very first apartment. You’ll have to stop by and visit some time. I can make us raspberry lemonade and we can sit out on the fire escape to read magazines and tan. Maybe you can bring Griffin with, too. Will you be going back to Philadelphia for the summer? Reese is the kind of guy who just knows how to take care of things, especially in moments of danger. Wow, are you being critical of the Rangers? I thought that you loved them. Fighting isn’t as easy as it sounds, especially when it’s with giant lizards and other creatures. My self-defense is pink pepper spray. Luckily I haven’t had to use it on anyone yet, but I will if I have to! 

Hmm... good point. Maybe it’ll help to know that in any of the times I’ve encountered them, I have yet to hear the lizards asking about anyone in that criteria. If I hear otherwise, you’ll be the first to know. It is strange, isn’t it? They seem to just appear out of nowhere, like they teleport to a spot and then just run rampant. Usually everything is calm before they pop up and I’d think if there was a nest, they’d end up leaving trails of destruction from where they came. That, and they turn to dust after being... taken care of. So, I’m thinking that Syria had it right and that they’re just created. As if they’re lizardmen modeled sandbags come to life. Which means someone is probably making them, and that’s not as easy to eradicate as a nest would be. I’d love to stop by! I like that fire escape idea. My family lived in an apartment until I was around four, but I still have some vague memories of sitting out on our fire escape. I bet Griff would love to see your new apartment too. We can bring you dinner or something!

So much for going out and having a normal breakfast, huh?  

I know I’ve said it a couple of times, but thanks for having my back out there.  I wouldn’t worry too much about the rangers, man.  I’m sure they’ll be back in action in no time.

Too true... but at least it was without a doubt a memorable morning, right?

What’s afraid of the dark in reverse? Whatever it is, that’s what these guys are. The power will come back on though and then they’ll be the ones running scared. You’re not hurt are you? And Reese is okay? If you guys need first aid, I found my lunch box. It’s got new ranger bandaids and everything. 

I haven’t been attacked yet, but that’s probably because I’ve been walking around in my hockey mask. Well, I might’ve scared this one dude but he took off when I started swinging my stick. I think he thought I was one of them, but I just wanted to find a path to Bar 54. It sounds like you and Reese should gear up too. If we gather all our sports gear and stick together, we’ll be safe. And the rangers will fix this soon. I mean, just because we can’t see them, doesn’t mean they’re not here. It’s just… dark. There’s more to them than the colored armor, but when they can’t be found, we carry them with us.  There’s a ranger in us all. I totally need to borrow that charger though. 

That’s a good question. Afraid of the light is my best guess, but that doesn’t seem right since they do come out in daylight. No, I’m okay! Nothing worth going to see a doctor over. Reese patched me up and I patched him up. We are both alive and standing-- feel free to hug us for further proof. Although I did lose the band-aid on my elbow so I may need one of those Power Ranger band-aids...

Well, this isn’t the first time the city lost power. But, we have been without power for a long time now. I am alright. Hmm… it might have to do with the power rangers or it could have to do with the president. Then again it could be both. 

I have to agree with you. When I am not busy doing my science work and messing around with technology. I try to take the time out to star gaze. If I can’t do that then I read. Maybe when things quite down we could try to get everyone to go camping. Then again maybe I’ll just camp out on the roof. If we continue to have nice weather.  

New York’s lost all its power before? Wow. I had figured it was just such a busy and lively place that it hadn’t ever happened until now! I’m glad you’re doing alright though. I... hadn’t thought about that the Power Rangers being the cause. It just didn’t seem to fit their MO. Or.... do you think it’s because of someone going after them? Not having power in the city could be just one big trap....

By a cow, but It’s okay! Everything works and I’m good to go. Except to see the cows. Me and Eury aren’t allowed to do that anymore. As for the other thing, are you asking to sleep with me or be my study buddy? I can’t tell.

Either way, it’s gonna take more than a few hours of crazy hot sex to tear us apart. There’s this thing about partners, Little Sayoc. They stick together through everything. Even when it’s really bad or gross and it looks like the end, it’ll never be over, become something in the universe says that’s how it’s supposed to be. So don’t worry about that, okay? I’ve doubted a lot of things, secretly, but trust me. Our friendship was never one of them. Meet you tonight? We can study math and idk eat carrots or something.  Or test your cooking. I’m super curious about that. Is it true you made all your meals in bags? Cuz that sounds kinda gross. Clearly, Reese got all the will power. 

Why would a cow want to kick you there? Did you not milk it properly or something? Because that would be a bad moo-ve. Sorry, I couldn’t resist saying that. Hopefully I haven’t utterly disappointed you. 

I think you need to stop leaving your bro cave, dude. It seems like the monsters are attracted to you, and that’s a little scary. I’m sure the rangers would be out there kicking ass if they could. Maybe the power outage is affecting them? I’m guessing they need power to operate a lot of the devices they use and whatnot. Or at least like, that’s what the movie makes me believe. I don’t know firsthand, obviously, haha. Just assuming and stuff. My power bank is almost outta juice, so thanks for the offer! I need to charge Aspen’s iPad, too. I deaded it after playing on Minecraft all afternoon. 

It’s so strange because they just keep showing up where I am. I don’t think they’re ever there with the intention of going after me or anything. It is scary though, but it goes to show how unpredictable these lizard guys really are. And whoever is making them. So that’s what you’re thinking too? I had a feeling that was the case... because of the movie, yes. Exactly. I mean, the ideas of it had to come from some truth, right? You knowing firsthand would be totally crazy. If you ever need to charge anything again, let me know! I’m happy to help however I can, Eury. Really.

GRIFFIN: Me? No way. I would choke under the pressure. Just thinking about it has got me all sweaty. I was hoping you were going to run with this one. I'll be the quiet moral support.

GRIFFIN: I trust the Rangers, especially the ones that helped to save me, and I don't think they would lie. It's more like, I think they really want to believe that everything is alright. They want to believe that stuff is getting better, and uhm, I guess they really believe in me too, you know? I just don't think they should. I don't know how they can when I sure don't believe in me.

GRIFFIN: Yeah, they're both at NYU. I see them all the time. I keep trying to see if Ariana will use her powers, you know? I get that she's probably being super careful, but I thought I'd see something by now. Maybe she could have lost hers somehow? I guess that could happen, maybe.

LIAM: As long as you're there in the presentation with me, I'm sure we could get a deal made. Aunt Lynn says we have a good brotherly presence together that makes people like it! And everyone like to laugh at jokes. We could definitely do it.

LIAM: I understand that. Kind of like jumping the gun on the battle being over. I just... I don't think they'd be willing to let you walking around freely if there was a risk of you not being okay. Not when they know what could go wrong. The Rangers seem to care about protecting the world first and foremost. I know you feel terrible for what happened with Eury and probably lots of things I don't know about, but that wasn't you. Even Max Lord was able to mind control Superman to do his bidding against his own friends, like Batman and Wonder Woman. He was manipulated into believing they were his enemies. But they didn't kill Superman, or give up on him, because they knew he was worth saving. They knew that all the good he had done and could do didn't outweigh the bad he had done while under evil influence. I think the same is to be said about the Power Rangers with you. You have the Ranger powers, and you're capable of doing so much good in the world. You've done it as Griffin Sayoc almost my whole life after all. If you let the guilt of what Devone help caused consume you, then he kind of wins. He seems like the type who loves to create fear and suffering however possible.

LIAM: Also.. not to change the subject, but have you seen the Power Rangers lately? Is everything okay?

Seriously? The city really never does sleep. I’m only slightly regretting signing a sublease for the summer months. Nothing this crazy ever happens in Bozeman… I’m just glad that this time around you weren’t alone, and it’s especially lucky that you happened to be with Reese. Not that he’s an expert on how to handle alien lizard situations or anything! The Rangers probably have a very good reason for being absent during a time of need. I hope that they’re able to make a comeback as soon as possible, though. I haven’t encountered a giant lizard monster yet but from what you’ve told me about them, they sound absolutely awful. 

The city doesn’t sleep, and neither does its lizardmen! I’m sure your new apartment will be safe. It seems like the creatures stick to running rampant in the streets more than manifesting inside of buildings. As long as you have a couple door locks and windows that latch, I’m sure you’ll be okay. How exciting though! I’ve really got to look in to finding an apartment for next year. Living on campus has been great, but I miss having my weapon collections with me. You’re right, I was lucky to have Reese there. He’s pretty good at finding the nerve to fend off those monsters. It helps he’s a double blackbelt, too. I’m sure the Rangers are out there still, just possibly unarmored or something. I know they have superpowers, but the ability to fight doesn’t require superhuman abilities. I’m glad to hear you still haven’t run into any, but on the chance that you do, be sure you’re armed. Do you know any kind of fighting styles? Any kind of self-defense is better than none.

Turns out not having electricity doesn’t stop the giant lizard monsters from attacking, or existing. Reese and I had a run in with one yesterday morning, but luckily were able to walk away from that with all our limbs. I wonder if they can see the dark, maybe that’s why they don’t care about there being no power... either way, stay safe, my fellow peers! I haven’t seen or heard of the Rangers appearing lately, so we may be on our own while the power is gone. At least I hope they’ll come back when the power’s restored. If you need to charge your phone I’ve got my solar USB charger. The offer is BYOC(able) though, just to be sure it can get charged up! At least if we all have our phones we can call one another if someone gets in a bind.

EURY: I mean, I died for a little bit, and I didn't see anything. But maybe it's because I wasn't dead long enough, so big God up there didn't wanna meet and greet me. YEAH, TOTALLY. It explains everything, doesn't it? I think she's doing running, 'cause like, she's super fast. Yup. Explains the nutritionist for sure. We drink a lot of green stuff that tastes bad. Thanks, Liam! You can sit in the crowds with Aspen! It's the um, the uh, winter olympics. We didn't qualify for summer. Nice! Shelby the worm from Adventure Time inspired me to parkour, and I just watched a lot of videos and started messing around alone. Rooftops? Very rebellious, Baby Sayoc. Think you can make a big jump with me? Well, if you unfortunately splattered on some concrete, I think Griffin would come for me rather than your corpse!

EURY: Oh yeah, I never noticed that before, ha. He's chewed up like... 5 of Aspen's. He never chews mine, 'cause he's my angel boy. We keep him well hidden, unless we're taking him for a walk. Yep, that's where his name comes from! If I get a bear, I'm naming it Baloo. That's sad! Poor Ace! Hopefully you'll see her again. Oh, really? Guy butts can be very nice, my dude, so I wouldn't blame you for having a lil' look. Aw, what a gentleman. Girl butts are so beautiful. And girl boobs. Also girl necks. Girls are just beautiful, really. We did. I don't know what I'd do without my Rory. 😍 I'd probably be so lost.

LIAM: You... died when you got stabbed? I thought that you just almost died. That must be such a wild experience, but if there is a God-guy it seems like that's probably what happened. Or maybe it did happen and you forgot, like in Ant-Man when Scott forgets what it was like to be at a sub-atomic level. I really should see Rory run, you're always commending her speed. Really? Even though you don't like being cold? Kudos to you! That's one of my favorite Adventure Time moments. One minute Shelby's on the block, then the next, on the pole. What a Parkour icon. I think I could at least try to make the jump! I'm not too bad at recovering or at least finding ledges to grab on. I'll put a note in my pocket that says "don't blame Eury" to be safe if you'd like!

I do!  It’s got a better ring than man cave, and it’s like we got our own little corner of the ocean.  Except it’s in our dorm.  How about we have a regular breakfast together tomorrow?  I got a history quiz, and I feel like I’m going to ace it, so I gotta make sure to fuel up.

Seriously?  Dude, it’s about time that it’s caught on.  This is my new 2k17 goal!  Make Liamdiana Jones a thing, watch out Harrison Ford!  Now I gotta go take a buzzfeed quiz to see which Olsen twin I am.  It’s for science.  Sherlock Holmes who?  Those lil twins were solving cases left and right.  The episode where they go to Sea World?  A Classic.  

Doesn’t it?! The Marsayoc Bro Cove. The best part is, since we both have Rory and Griffin by the most, the name still works. Having a regular breakfast would be even better. I bet we could find a food truck open still since they aren’t as dependent on electricity. It’ll be my treat since you’ve got an exam! I had heard some professors still were going to assign work, it sucks you got stuck with one of the few.

Perfect! What does your week look like? I mean, of course we’ve got the blackout still going on but I know some people are still going out and doing stuff, even if almost everything is closed at this point. My workplace actually shut down until they can find another backup generator to use, so my schedule is literally wide open. Also, if you happen to have any materials on the Rangers - like articles or notes or photographs or anything like that - feel free to bring those along. Anything you have to offer will be immensely helpful.

I’m fairly free for the most part! Griffin and I try to have dinner together usually on Mondays and Wednesday. We are still keeping to that, even with the blackout. Fact: you can’t stop the Sayocs from eating! Reese and I might get some breakfast in the next couple days too. So... maybe Thursday night? Normally that’s when I’m listening to your show anyway, so it’d be an excellent way to fill the WNYU-FM void. I’ve been pretty bummed about not having the campus station lately. I’m lucky though, I decided to bring my solar phone charger and hand-crank generator to NY. It’s kept both my phone and laptop with some juice so I have music still. I’ve got some research, definitely. Mostly pertaining to the day the yellow and white rangers showed up in Brooklyn since that’s when I was there. But I’ve followed them since, too. Are you looking for anything specific?

EURY: Nope, I'm not anything, really. I believe there's like, something, but Idk what. Thanks, Liam. I'm not every Christian persons dream, though. Uhh, yeah! We train together a lot. We're um, gonna be in the olympics and shit... Great, me neither! It's not that scary once you make the leap! You just have to be confident about your footing and that you can land without hurting yourself. It's better to start small, like doing it off skate ramps and stuff, and then you build the confidence to go higher. I can do pretty huge jumps now, but I wouldn't recommend you tryna do 'em. I'm reckless, and kind of an idiot when it comes to danger. I wouldn't want you to die because of me, that'd surely upset Griffin.

EURY: He is! Unless he's chewing up shoes, then he's a bad boy. I have a snake named Kaa that lives in a drawer that me and Rory share. He's not like totally mine, he belongs to us both. Have you had any pets? You ain't ever seen an ass and been like WHOA SHAWTY GOTTA GET YO DIGITS?! She's really awesome, and I'm very happy with her. Hmm, yeah, as a roommate, I totally get it. I feel the same about Rory.

LIAM: I know what you mean. I think there's something too, but we'll probably never see it while we're human & alive. RORY'S TRAINING FOR THE OLYMPICS? Really? Wow, that explains some things. Like the nutritionist she said you guys have. Are you training for the winter or summer ones? I can't wait to cheer you guys on, I know you'll make it! I've done some parkour on my own mostly back in Philly, and I had a social club with some of my friends from school. Whenever we took trips together, we'd go explore the city rooftops and all. I promise I'm no beginner so I won't hold you back too much, Eury the Fury. If anything happens to me, it'd be my own fault. I know my limits, not you-- you can leave my cousin to me!
