Soundwave just scoops her up into the laundry basket. Small aggressive aphid. Most likely hungry.

Dropping back to all 6’s, Sputter hunches low and pads as lightly as she can through decaying rubble. Her coloration is much better for camouflage than other autobots had, but the glow from her energon “saddlebags” poses a potential risk. (Oldboyjensen)

Unluckily for Sputter, she’s not alone. Lennox is here, he’s squatting on a ruined concrete block, smoking a cigarette as he’s reading a book.

Ah, peace and quiet. It’s mildly radioactive, enough to keep out most baselines but not enough to bother his nanite-enhanced flesh. His nanites will easily prune any cancers, and the ruined buildings here mean none of those oversized roosterhens can easily fly in, land and gd forbid….bother him.

Sputter freezes. She can’t exactly put her hands in the air because that would mean rearing to full height. If she rolls over and he doesn’t take it as a sign of harmlessness, she’s dead. Revealing her knowledge of language means revealing she’s a sapient insecticon.

Lennox looks to the sky with the cigarette dangling from his lip.  The book is shut.

It’s filled with energon, that much his nanite-enhanced eyes can see, but there’s no charged weapon systems.

The critter’s looking at him with perked attena and tilted helm.

He starts to slooooowly back away. He’s been around enough irrate unionized appliance mecha not to be fooled. It’s common for them to haze new NEST soldiers by acting cute and dumb, then pelting them with snack food.

Actually… maybe it would be good to do this in front of a human. The whole point of the project was to give back after all.

Sputter turns away from the soldier and lowers her feelers to the ground. Somewhere around here… aha. She finds the caved in stairway and begins lifting and moving bricks and dirt and concrete. One antenna points toward Lennox to keep a read on him.

The bug doesn’t look like an appliance, shite, a living Autobot? He would radio in Hex, but the history books did mention intercepted communications could cause an attack. Wait no, Hex and the other Uploads would’ve caught something.

He keeps one hand on his gun just in case. But he makes no move to shoot otherwise.

Cybertronians, bugs or not, are an endangered species, and his ass is grass if he kills what’s possibily one of the last non-domesticated bugs.

He speaks.

The stairwell isn’t particularly deep, and Sputter’s steady excavation has it halfway dugout. A neat pyramid of bricks and larger rubble forms to the side. The dirt she simply digs out with her second arms behind her like a dog.

“Oh, how mighty generous of you,” he spat before turning on Barbara, “I’m taking it to go. And don’t expect me back anytime soon, not during your shift. I’ll be having words with Claire on disciplining her damn staff. And so will my lawyer.”

Barbara met Ted’s look with her own, now an unimpressed deadpan. She said nothing for a long moment, not blinking or breaking eye contact. Without a word, she turned and efficiently doggy bagged his meal. She lept the same steely face as she handed it to him a moment later.

“On your tab then.”

He took it, confused, unsettled, and attempting to maintain his anger. He broke eye contact with Barbara and frothed at Lawrence as he backed toward the door.

“And who the hell are you to tell me what to do?” Ted snapped, rounding on Lawrence, “Bold of a stranger like you to say shit like that,” he jabbed his finger at Lawrence’s chest, “You lay a hand on me and there’ll be hell to pay, Mr. High and Mighty. Telling me to sit down- I’ll sit down when I’m damn well good and ready!”

Lawrence kept his face even as the other man jabbed at him. “Thats right, I am a stranger, aren’t I.” He replied with a low voice. “Aintcha ever hear of stranger danger? If theres gonna be hell t’pay, it aint gonna be me paying the toll.” A hand grabbed at the wrist of the one poking at him with a tight grip, letting his fingers dig at the mans skin.

Barbara sidled up between the two men, with her palms outstretched to gently hopefully separate them.

“Sir, much as I appreciate the chivalry, I’m gonna have to ask you let him go and both of you please either take a seat or take it outside.”

Her voice was evenly friendly but firm as she looked between the two. Like she’d said, as much as she appreciated the defense, she couldn’t afford to let a fight break out on her shift.

“And who the hell are you to tell me what to do?” Ted snapped, rounding on Lawrence, “Bold of a stranger like you to say shit like that,” he jabbed his finger at Lawrence’s chest, “You lay a hand on me and there’ll be hell to pay, Mr. High and Mighty. Telling me to sit down- I’ll sit down when I’m damn well good and ready!”

While the funny little shiela that had joined their ranks often caught him by surprise with her words or actions, the sight he found surprised him the most so far.

While partially he had to wonder how she had gotten in, but the way she was dressed pulled his mind away to deal with that later.

“Well I love to be warm so I’m open to any ideas or suggestions you might have.”

She swapped her folded armload for the boxers, slowly stepping into them while looking up at Mundy.

“We have one staff member in the night kitchen, Ted, I promise she’s working on your burger as quickly as she can.”

Tired voice, not one hundred percent chipper.

While the funny little shiela that had joined their ranks often caught him by surprise with her words or actions, the sight he found surprised him the most so far.

While partially he had to wonder how she had gotten in, but the way she was dressed pulled his mind away to deal with that later.

“You know someone with a sweet tooth I should look out for?” She let slip, brow raised.

Messenger properly resembled a boiled crab by this point in the conversation. She was sure her expression was acting traitor to all attempts at nonchalance. More certain she became on realizing she was biting her lip.

“In all seriousness I would really appreciate borrowing some garb, when you get the chance. And, uh, I am actually done for the day.”

Only Messenger’s improv comedy classes were between her and falling into a heap of sawdust. Her heart hammered like a handyman on a time crunch.

Was this flirting? Or was this like, a step above flirting? Or was it not? Was she reading it wrong? She tended to over-read things, maybe this was how people casually flirted with friends and coworkers. On his end. Maybe. Oh jeez.

Thankfully, while Messenger’s brain ran laps overthinking, her mouth and hands could operate separately. That was usually not a “thankfully” inducing situation, but it appeared there were first times for everything.

Messenger began to undo the straps of the sheer gown, arms pretzeled behind her back with practiced ease.

“Well, you get your own personal strip tease by virtue of me feeling chilly, if that’s any consolation. Fine outfit for running around, but the desert’s cooling off for the evening y’know.”

Being invited to stick around in his camper was both a bit of an honor and the reason all her blood was in Messenger’s face. Her ears were practically maroon.

There was something in those two little words that made Lawrence freeze in place for a moment before he rushed toward her, a hand catching her chin, tilting her head up as he leaned in a little, the smirk on his face showing the sharp ends of his canine teeth. “You don’t know how often I’ve hoped to hear something like that come out of your mouth.” He murmured, something deeper adding to the natural gravel in his voice.

She asked, trying to scratch the itches with her tongue. This was a futile task on good days, but today even moreso. She could barely reach her gums with her teeth in the way… she had a feeling she might know what his answer would be.

Considering that it had apparently happened to him. Meaning…

She looked into his eyes and gave his hand a squeeze.

“That sounds shitty as fuck. I hope the Sloppy asshat bastard got some retribution handed to him..”
