can i be honest. a/b/o pisses me off. for a very specific, nerdy, pretentious reason.
To Me, it's science-fiction-uinely implausible and unbelievable. i have too many questions and it seems the omegaverse writing community has not come to a consensus on the answers to these questions.
why are betas just..There? why is there a third sex that has literally nothing to do with reproduction?
why do people in this world have a primary sex (male or female) AND a secondary sex (a/b/o)? why would you need two different sets of biological sexes? why would you have male and female if alpha and omega exist? from a sexual-reproduction standpoint, aren't they functionally exactly the same thing? and again, why are betas a thing? if you're a beta, then you're basically "just" your primary sex? male or female? like in our world? so you could still get pregnant or get someone else pregnant, just without the heat or the rut?
but if there are two sets of biological sexes, then wouldn't the combinations thereof create a higher number of sexes? so like, male alpha, female alpha, male beta, female beta, male omega, female omega - that's AT LEAST six distinct sexes. how do they all factor into reproduction? why does it seem like the two sets of biological sexes are overlapping? like "female" and "omega" feels redundant, FROM A REPRODUCTIVE STANDPOINT.
(and of course, this is talking ONLY about "biological sex", NOT gender. and "female" refers to a person who is born with xx chromosomes (and no other chromosomal anomalies like trisomies), a uterus, vagina and ovaries, produces eggs, and has hormonal levels within the "normal" range for a person of that chromosomal/gonadal situation. (sidenote: i believe the concept of "biological sex" is, medically, utterly pointless in our world. it requires so many qualifiers as to be functionally meaningless. it's meant to be a shorthand that includes chromosomes, hormones, genitals, gonads, gametes, and secondary sex characteristics. that's too much!! and most of those things cannot even be known for sure at birth by looking at a baby's genitals, which means that assigning a sex at birth is completely pointless. it's a guess, at best. a guess that could actively harm that person later on down the road because they and their doctors might make assumptions about their bodies based on that guess but which may be totally wrong!))
how do betas play into soulmates and mated pairs and mating bites and stuff like that??
how the fuck do the genitals work? (heats and ruts aside) is a male alpha just like a cis dude in our world, but with a knot? is a female omega just like a cis female in our world? does a male omega get pregnant through his butt or does he have a vagina? or a penis and a vagina? does a female alpha have a penis? or a penis and a vagina? does this add a whole new level of perisex/intersex anatomical configurations?? can someone be male/female intersex but alpha/omega perisex? or vice versa?? is it possible to be alpha/omega intersex? if a female alpha DOES have a vagina and a male omega DOES have a dick, does that mean that either one could get the other pregnant?
why do the heats and ruts seem totally random? does an omega's heat trigger an alpha's rut? or can either go into heat or rut independently of each other? does this happen once a month or once a year? BECAUSE in our world, when other animals have a mating season (like deer, birds, fishes), it's once a year and it's the same time for all members of the species, is it not? and if there's no mating season, why would a rut be required at all??
you see my problem? there are just too many questions and not enough answers! i'm pissed đ i want science-fiction-uinely viable worldbuilding in my dystopian smut (or smutty dystopia), thank you very much
