Young ironworkers be crazy. I know one who made it past the crazy stage and into middle age. I can attest.

In honor of the busybody who saw me engaging in one of my hobbies today and commented that I was not very good at it and why would I do it myself when AI could do it so much better, does anyone else have hobbies at which they are objectively not talented but they do them anyway because they enjoy them? It seems in this push to commodify free time and monetize hobbies we have really started focusing on end results - if you are not producing a quality end project instantly, it is deemed a waste of time. But much of the benefits of hobbies are from engaging in the process, regardless of outcome.
So going forward - at least for leisure activities and hobbies - I would like to banish the saying βanything worth doing is worth doing wellβ and replace it with βany hobby I would like to do is worth doing myself.β I am celebrating my suckage and doing it anyway. Do it poorly and have fun!
As soon as you try to make money from a hobby, it is no longer a hobby, it becomes a job. It becomes work. The whole point of a hobby is to do something you enjoy, and fuck all about the results.
Do it however, and have fun!
Every episode of orphan black is like. Sarah discovers a horrifying truth about her existence. Cosima has lesbian sex. Alison slips further into suburban psychosis. Helena kills a man.

Charley Harper - Wood Duck (Best Dressed) 1973
An open Tumblr letter to younger fans, from a 77-year-old TOS fangirl
* who has shipped Spirk since that night in 1967 that Amok Time first aired * and helped storm NBC to keep TOS on the air for a 3rd season * and wrote fanfic way back in the day * and was privileged to be around for the earliest days of fandom, when Leonard used to come to your house if thatβs where the fan club was meeting and sit on the sofa with you in that Spock hair cut and eat cake
All of you who are writing TOS/AOS fan fiction and creating fan art now: remember, YOU are the ones shaping the traditions of fandom. You have inherited the kingdom. Bless you for keeping it vibrant, growing, alive. In fifty years, you will be the ones who are remembered for molding it and handing it down to the future. It probably doesnβt feel like now, but you are making history.
Your current addiction to TOS and the feels you get when you contemplate the love between Jim and Spock will be with you for life. It wonβt always be in the forefront; you will sometimes go years, sometimes go a decade, without Star Trek being more than a passing thought. But then something will remind you and every consuming feeling you feel right now will come rushing back, every bit as powerful and deep and strong as it is today. All there, right where you left it.
The friendships you make in fandom will be with you for life. Like all friendships, they will wax and wane as the focus of your life shifts over time, but you will always be able to pick up the thread. You will β to give you a hypothetical example β be 77 years old and discover Tumblr and get a rush of Spirk feels after a decade of not giving TOS a thought, and contact your 83-year-old fangirl friend in the nursing home, to whom you havenβt spoken in several years. You will open the conversation with, βSo, Jim and Spock love each other and that just makes me so happy.β And your friend in the nursing home will sigh and say, βYes. They do love each other. Itβs such a comfort.β
That look that Jim and Spock give each other, of absolute adoration and acceptance and love? Thatβs real. Itβs rare, but itβs real. One of my greatest joys in life is to see my son and his husband give each other looks like that. Of course I donβt know you; I donβt know your strengths and struggles or your place on the spectrum of gender or anything about your sexuality or what you look like or what your life has taught you to believe about yourself, but I do know this: YOU DESERVE TO BE LOVED AND LOOKED AT THE WAY JIM AND SPOCK LOOK AT EACH OTHER. Please donβt accept less than that in your life.
The future of our planet does not seem very hopeful at the moment. But please remember that when Gene created Star Trek, the world was in turmoil and the future seemed very bleak. Star Trek is, was, always shall be about hope. Reach for it. When TOS first aired, we hoped to see some form of a Starfleet on the horizon in our lifetimes. That vision must be passed on to you. Do it. Make the world worthy of launching the human race out into space. CREATE STARFLEET.
You are all creative and funny and amazing. Far more amazing than you know. Be kind to yourselves. Live long and prosper, kids.
Tags are in reference to my first bullet point. Meant as a kudos to your work, but feel free to untag yourself if you donβt want to be linked to my ramblings; I wonβt be offended! (Also, this extends to a thousand other artists and writers out there who deserve kudos. tag at will.)
@spockslashβ will not be taken down until / unless tumblr takes it down.

Star Trek grandma
Betcha Grandma was writing original k/s slashfic decades before you kiddies were born.
Yes @ceruleanteacup , Grandma was
i hope everyone knows that OP wasnβt just saying this generally - she quite literally was the star trek grandma. she passed in 2018, rip to an icon
Never underestimate a 77 year old grandma who was a Trek fan from when it originally aired. I am approaching 73, and though I'm not a grandma, I started watching in 1966 (What Are Little Girls Made Of? was my first) and have never quit.

Holy shit....
1x07 - What Are Little Girls Made Of?
Today the weather was finally very nice, and I worked in the garden too. I dug up the old fence to replace it and my body is still in winter mode so I will suffer tomorrow π«£π But it was so nice. The birds are still a bit slow around here, hopefully things pick up this week. But the Maxdone trail cam picked some fun things up at the small bath. The White-throated Sparrows love this spot! (Other appearancaes are Cardinals, a Grackle, an Oriole, a squirrel and a mouse.)

The Chair
βNo, thatβs wrong. Obviously wrong.β
He stared at what was distinctly NOT a chair, growing more irritated by the second.
βI solve crimes, dismantle entire networks of deceit!β he muttered, jabbing at the paper.
"I have an international reputation."
He stared at the instruction booklet with its nonsense figures and supposedly easy-to-follow diagrams.
βbut thisβ¦ THIS.β
He sighed, feeling defeated.
"Iβm a genius. This should be easier.β
@the-cat-writer says: Now I need that chair to be real
Well you are in luck! This is a common mistake when making flat-pack chairs. I have literally done this at least twice.
Looks like Sherlock is in good company.

the AI bros are always trying to install in us this fear of falling behind and being abandoned by society if we won't start using AI, and let me just say - men have been telling me I'll "end up alone with seven cats if I don't give them a chance" for AGES. I can smell the barely hidden desperation underneath that axe body spray like a shark, and boy am I about to make you cry from frustration
Reblog if you don't use Generative AI to write fanfics/original fics or to create fanart/original art.
Why would I use generative AI when I am far more original than it could or will ever be?
