Hermann Joseph Muller, Nobel Prize-winning American geneticist and physiologist who publicly criticized the eugenics movement at the Sixth International Congress of Eugenics. He argued that the movement was racist and elitist and chastised eugenicical thinking in 1932. During this time, it was thought that criminality, illiteracy, sexual deviancy, and other socially reprehensible behaviors were genetically passed down to offspring. America adodopted a practice to forcibly sterilize "afflicted individuals" as a way to eradicate these factors out of society. At the International Eugenics conference, Herman Muller gave this address to oppose the prominent ideas of the time. "There is no scientific basis for the conclusion that the socially lower class have genetically inferior intellectual equipment. Certain slum districts of our cities are factories for criminality among those who happen to be born in them. Under these circumstances, it is society, not the individual, which is the real criminal and which stands to be judged. Eugenics might yet perfect the human race but only in a society consciously organized for the common good."

Me on identifying as a Black Man to a successful elder that doesn't.
"Shalom Mr. S******. I was thinking about our conversation on identifying as a black man and I have some thoughts.
We were speaking about race and ethnicity as if they were the same thing. Ethnicity is shared cultural background and heritage. Race is a new system (maybe 600 years old) that rank human differences like hair texture, skin tones, facial features. Race was based on Eurocentric standards that gave benefits and special considerations based on a person's proximity to whiteness.
When I speak of my love of being a black man, I'm speaking of ethnicity. "Black man in America" is the only ethnicity I know to be. The unfortunate nature of the black ethnic group in America is that we all have to fit into one group. While others can enjoy their German heritage or Cambodian roots, we have to love things that may not be specific to us, or accept things and people that may be the furthest things from our identity as individuals.
I think this stretching of etchicity started in the slavetrade when we were stripped of any cultural identifiers and forced to be interfused with other ethic groups (just because our perceived race and skin tones appeared to be the same). So a proud Igbo man from Nigeria was stripped of his knowledge of self and forced to be around others with different values, behavioral temperaments, and backgrounds. We were in a contrived state of forced acceptance of others and adapted for survival. Our ethnic culture grew out of this collage of peoples that don't really account for any subcultures or micro-specificities.
If a person who is perceived to possess the made up "black race's" identifier, doesn't see themselves represented in the black ethnicity, that totally makes sense. Our structures of identities aren't as refined as others to account for that actual degree of differences that we have. But I would also say that this fact is also the reasoning why we are one of the most accepting ethnicities in the world."

“There are four kinds of people in this world: cretins, fools, morons, and lunatics…Cretins don’t even talk; they sort of slobber and stumble…Fools are in great demand, especially on social occasions. They embarrass everyone but provide material for conversation…Fools don’t claim that cats bark, but they talk about cats when everyone else is talking about dogs. They offend all the rules of conversation, and when they really offend, they’re magnificent…Morons never do the wrong thing. They get their reasoning wrong. Like the fellow who says that all dogs are pets and all dogs bark, and cats are pets, too, therefore cats bark…Morons will occasionally say something that’s right, but they say it for the wrong reason…A lunatic is easily recognized. He is a moron who doesn’t know the ropes. The moron proves his thesis; he has logic, however twisted it may be. The lunatic on the other hand, doesn’t concern himself at all with logic; he works by short circuits. For him, everything proves everything else. The lunatic is all idée fixe, and whatever he comes across confirms his lunacy. You can tell him by the liberties he takes with common sense, by his flashes of inspiration, and by the fact that sooner or later he brings up the Templars…There are lunatics who don’t bring up the Templars, but those who do are the most insidious. At first they seem normal, then all of a sudden…”
