Global Connections
Because the people of the Thousand Islands are inherently xenophobic, they do not have many global connections. Any outsiders that set foot on their land are killed and sacrificed to their Gods, for this reason, they don't have much knowledge of the outside world. However, the Thousand Islands have had a very long and lasting impact on the West through the original creation of wildfire. Unbeknowest to the Islanders, travelers from the west observed their practices from afar and collected some samples dumped into the water surrounding their islands in order to recreate their invention. This invention has won wars and changed the course of history in the West, but is not forbidden in the Thousand IslandsÂ
The culture and lifestyle of the people on the Thousand Islands have also been greatly affected by a natural disaster which affected more of planetos than just their region, though they do not understand the impact that it had globally because of the lack of communication with their surrounding civilization. Unlike other affected, they recovered in complete isolation.Â
Concentrations of wealth and military in other parts of the world are not understood by the people of the islands. They also have little to offer up in these areas, the islands have very little wealth, especially after the disaster and have a very small military which would not stand a chance against larger developed armies. They do, however, have a lot of knowledge. Most of their knowledge pertains to how to manipulate nature and the environment to sustain life while preserving its integrity. They are very in tune with their land, plants, and animals and are able to cultivate an environment that they use as the base of their society. In this aspect, much of their knowledge is specific to their landscape and its characteristics (limited utilization of water). They are also experts on efficient resource utilization, this knowledge could greatly benefit other civilizations especially during wartime.Â
In the near future, it is possible that the people on the islands will have to venture out for resources to survive. It's likely that this will be facilitated by the underground group actively pursuing and learning about their past and beginning to think outward.Â
