Listening to Jabber's endless yapping is the equivalent of doomscrolling to Zanka.
Jabber is ranting about the most random topic one can come up with while Zanka stares at him with a slack mouth and a dazed look, almost as if he's seeing through him. Jabber is used to getting ignored, so he assumes Zanka is disassociating to escape his endless stream of words.
Imagine his surprise when, a few days later on trivia night, Zanka wipes the floor with the other Cleaners because he remembers a bunch of useless facts Jabber has told him about various topics.
He doesn't show how much it means to him but every night when Zanka wraps his arms around him and looks at him expectantly with the words: "talk to me, baby," Jabber fights the urge to cry.
He doesn't know why he's surprised. Zanka loves every part of him, and he's never been afraid to show it once he got over his inferior complex. He still indulges Jabber when he wants a fight and doesn't hold back from hurting him nor does he let the blood stop him from other fun activities after.
He doesn't scold Jabber for testing various drugs on himself or get weirded out by it and he even let's Jabber test some on him. Zodyl used to knock him out when his trip made him too loud and if the aftermath left him feeling like crap he got locked in his room, but Zanka holds his hair back when he's throwing up, he wraps him up in blankets, makes sure he's hydrated and calmly talks him through it.
He doesn't take it to heart when Jabber gets mean during withdrawal, which isn't often but still, especially when their relationship was still fresh Zanka's friends often advised him to end it before he's in too deep. Too bad for them, Zanka was locked in from the moment he felt Jabber breathing down his neck. They don't play about each other.
In the beginning pretty much every Cleaner disliked him with the exception of Corvus and Amo, and they didn't try to hide it. Jabber refrained from defending himself in fear of being kicked out but luckily his boyfriend is as sassy as they come.
Rudo wants to know why they're taking in a dirty, violent, rude street rat? Zanka would also like to know what exactly made Enjin take Rudo in.
Enjin wants to comment on Jabber's chemical body odor? Zanka doesn't think someone who walks around smoking like a chimney and trying to cover up the evidence with Axe should be talking.
Semiu doesn't want Jabber to voice his masochistic daydreams out loud? She better get that porn magazine out of Zanka's face then.
Tamsy wants to point out that Jabber only has the privilege of joining them because of his relationship with Zanka? How about he points out how many days off he had lately and how exactly he got the boss to approve them.
It escalated when Zanka's siblings came to visit to evaluate the situation of the Cleaners taking in a well known Ex Raider. They treated Jabber like a piece of trash and manhandled him to the point where Zanka intervened. The Nijikus insulted Jabber, Zanka insulted them, they insulted Zanka and Jabber attacked them for it. In the end, this was the event that finally made Zanka cut all emotional ties with his family. Years of feeling inferior to his siblings and viewing them on some kind of unreachable pedestal and one insult to Jabber made him lose all respect. It gave Jabber the biggest high of his life.
Zanka is the first person who accepts Jabber and loves him despite, or maybe because of, his personality. He's always been too weird, too loud, too violent, too disgusting, too annoying, too everything and he learned to love the way people treated him because he knew it was the only treatment he would ever get. Thank god, Zanka proved him wrong.
