daughter to a brilliant journalist named marilyne delacroix, dominique was brought up by a woman who loved her so completely that it completely shrouded the fact that she was going to be raised without her father in their one bedroom apartment

given the nature of marilyne’s work, dominique was often left with fleur, dominique’s aunt, and her husband bill whenever marilyne went off on stories

thus, dominique found herself in england with her extended family when the story marilyne had been chasing had caused her death 

as dominique’s godmother, fleur took her in as her own child, to which she didn’t understand initially, but has found herself especialy grateful for fleur and bill 

dominique didn’t know someone could hold so much sadness in them until she’d lost her mother; being the only person in her life, it felt like a part of herself had been torn from her, leaving a gaping hole she felt could never be filled

parts of that whole were sealed over with the love and care fleur and bill gave her, a love that dominique returned ten fold

so much pain was still left, though, that she felt the need to protect herself in whatever way she could

although one can’t say dominique is cold; there’s a fire there, behind her eyes, she can be seen as detached; although she loves her family, her entire family, she let few inside. she was friendly enough, and actually enjoyed socializing and parties and having fun, but she didn’t do romance, nor did she let people come into her life easily.
