âYou let me die,â she reminded him. She did a lot to get back at Damon. To get him to back off. But she never let him die. âI admit I might have been foolish enough to believe the soul doppelganger theory. At least that meant i wasnât destined to be alone.â She reached up to touch his cheek. âBut your father was a fool. Not just for letting a vampire more into his house and control his life. But because he didnât see you. Not many people make a good vampire. But I will never regret turning you. Giving you the fight to go against your father. To do what you wanted. Is it so hard to understand why someone would love you? The man that love with all his heart. That would take any beating or attack for those he loves.â She smiled. âThat even when you were up against a whole town of vampire haters you still came for me.âÂ
At her little reminder, Damon bit at the inside of his cheek. She was right, he did let her die. But that didnât mean it was easy for him. âYou really donât see it, do you?â Damon asks, a brow lifted in question. âEven when the stupid doppelganger theory wasnât in play, you still had people that wanted you. If you had let them in, you wouldnât have ended up alone.â Damon honestly hated that stupid theory and once it was brought up, itâs all anyone could ever talk about. The sharpness of his teeth capture the tip of his tongue as Katherineâs hand is placed on his cheek, surprising himself when he doesnât pull away from her touch.  PRIDE was a finicky thing with Damon, he wanted to hold onto it for as long as he could because in the end, it was pride that got him where he was today. âI will always come for you.â Since when did âwouldâ turn into âwillâ? Before Damon even knew it, the wall he had built to keep her out had crashed down. âIâm a dick, Iâm impulsive and I take things to the extreme when things need to be done just so they could finally be done. I donât sit in a little group circle and discuss alternatives because I donât have the patience for it. More often than not I let my anger control what I do and what I say. And I had a lot of it towards you, Katherine. I know I let you die, but it wasnât easy for me. AndâŚ.â Pride would just have to sit out on this one, âIâm sorry that I didnât fight for another way. Iâm sorry I let you die.â
