â : they had certainly traded blows on more than one occasion back then, though who had really come out the victor was uncertain in the sense of the battles had simply begun to blur together â how the conditions for victory had simply changed, in the end, when the crowd had turned out to be a cabal of youkai tanuki all along.
âthen perhaps it would do you well to practice her mannerisms with all due vigor. as i said, your impression is somewhat lacking.â she wonât take the bait of being continuously insulted, as she knows better than to fall for such lowly tricks.
âyour memory seems to be mistaken. is your age catching up with you, perhaps? i recall scoring a sound victory against you outside the village when first we met.â there is something of a smirk alight upon her lips, but it fades quickly into a more neutral, thoughtful gaze just as quickly as it has appeared.
âthe adjustment period was somewhat difficult, but there is nothing here i find intolerable. the incidents can certainly be⌠lively.â a pause. âwill you find yourself up to the challenge, i wonder?â
âOh yeah? I doubt you could do much better!â
With a laugh, she kicks back while sitting on her tail.
âYouâre the last person who should be chiding me over my age,â Mamizou responds in turn with a meager shrug as she uncorked her sake bottle, clearly ignoring most of what Miko had just said with a lackadaisical expression.
To which, naturally, she would begin to take a drinkâ letting the hermit continue to speak as much as they wanted to while she indulged, pausing only once the question was bounced back upon them. âOh? Will I? Who do you think youâre talkinâ to? I ainât that bumblinâ minion of yours. Iâm a master of adapting!â
âDid ya forget Iâm from the Outside World? ... Though, I reckon this place is rather different.â She takes another drinkâ a shorter one, this time. âBut even Iâd prefer there to here. The stink of this place is be even worse, to me...â
@ofsado liked.
Saint-Germain, for the most part, tends to not like getting involved in the business of other people. While she does think of herself as a champion of justice, she also knows that many times, there would be no point in getting involved in othersâ petty squabbles. She typically had enough on her hands dealing with Prelati or Cagliostro, after all.
But Prelati and Cagliostro arenât in this city, and her schedule is a lot less packed with trying to resolve stupid arguments over plush frogs.
As she walks down the boardwalk of the Golden Ward, wondering if any of these fruit stalls will have tangerines (despite their melon themingâshe wonât give up hope quite yet!), something catches her eyeâor rather, someone. A woman is running in her direction, a large melon tucked beneath one arm, as a rather-looking man chases after her. Typically, sheâd be a little harsher on thieves, but after being so viscerally reminded of her past, she decides sheâll be a little nicer. Just a little. As the woman passes her by, she reaches out, and with a surprisingly firm grip, grabs the arm not supporting the food.
âWould you like to do this the easy way, or the hard way?â
She was swift on her feet, so outrunning some human wasnât too large of an issue. However, with how fast she had been running, the human disguised tanuki would practically topple over as she found herself being forced to stop by someone unrelatedâ but fortunately instead remained on both feet, melon still safely tucked between her arms.
With the man encroaching in the distance, the caught âhumanâ would look at Saint-Germain with a momentary look of surprise. ââ The easy way, or the hard way?â
That look of shock on her face would quickly make way for a grin.
âIâm much more fond of the easier route, mâself!â And with a turn towards the man running their way, Mamizou would eagerly yell, âHoho! That all ya got?! Youâll never take me and my accomplice here alive, ya hear us?! She says sheâll knock your lights out if ya come any closerâ ya dumb sack of bricks!â
The merchantâs face is now red with rage. And with a smile on her face, sheâd swivel her gaze back to Saint-Germainâ locking her arm around the otherâs.
âSo, how do you wanna do this? Iâm all ears, partner.â
wishpsynergyâ:
âItâs a strange place, isnât it? It does seem like many just came here, popped up for a reason or another.â She almost feels her heart sinking when she thinks about it; she shouldâve been back to Imil, to meet up with Justin and Megan again, to see how much theyâve progressed and maybe sheâd have felt so proud of how they took care of the town while she was gone. Ah, just wishful thinking.
The djinn on her shoulder keeps looking at Mamizou, curious. She was no threat, so far. It bounces from side to side, eventually relaxing a little more. She can be trusted, it seems. âAh, thatâs an interesting name! I donât think Iâve heard of anything like that before. Iâm Mia, is a pleasure to meet you.â
âAnd him? Heâs Fizz. Weâve been together for a long time now, though I donât really recall how we crossed paths.âÂ
âPopped up... yup, that sure is a word for it.â Kidnapped, more like. Sheâd take another sip, before shifting her posture entirely to get comfyâ the woman now laying on the ground sideways, head resting against her arm.
âYou havenât? It ainât exactly a common name, so I ainât surprised. But, well, Iâve certainly heard the name Mia before. Stillâ itâs a nice name. So Mia and Fizz then, eh...? Mia and Fizz... quite the interesting pair you two make!â
âThat long, though... wow. Sure must be nice. So heâs like yer pet, then...?â
Her first thought was to call the small creature the girlâs familiar, but it seemed like that wasnât the case. Unless she just so happened to summon the thing on accident, anywho.
epitaphriddleâ:
The excuse of âmagic resistant toxinâ should be able to carry this lie.
âThis world, just like any other, is filled with magic resistant toxin. So long as humans who donât believe in magic exist in this world⌠My magical power will be reduced. So, forgive me for not being able to do a more spectacular prank.â
Mamizou⌠Yes, she would make a good friend for Beatrice. Sayo could imagine the two of them pulling more pranks together.
âKihihihihiâŚ!! Your ideas are pretty bold, Mamizou! I suppose games arenât as fun without the risk, are they? We must brainstorm sometime!â
The way this Beatrice carried herself sure was entertaining. There was an arrogance, a real bravado in her words that amused her. But... her words were strange.
This world, just like any other... there was something strange about that. Perhaps thatâs what it was like back where she came from, sure. And while the idea that human belief could affect something so strongly didnât surprise her (for as a youkai, she knew this first hand), Mamizou had never heard of a magic resistant toxin.
â... Oh, no, thatâs alright! Thatâs just how it is, ainât it?â Laughing and nodding, Mamizou crosses her arms. âAnd of course theyâre bold! The risk is what makes the game worth itâ especially when you can easily manage it! Hohohoho!â
Laughing some more, sheâd only further agree with the otherâs words.
âBut anyhow, sure, Iâd love to! Lets plot away, you and me!â She pauses. â... That said... so what kinda magic do you know, missy? Even if ya canât show me, Iâd love to hear about it. And in returnâ Iâll even show you what magic I can do.â
Her time in this form was running out, anyhow.

a tilt of the head responds to the strangerâs ⌠jubilant personality. intuition tells of mischief incoming in the near future with this one. almost like a pixieâs way of having fun ⌠well, from her explanation, it makes sense.Â
though, the laugh does catch Manako off guard, and so she subtly takes a step back. not too much.  â I-I see,  â  she murmurs,  â I guess there is a difference between magicks and tricks. â
â Well âŚÂ â she takes a moment to ponder. what was it like, having Eos as a companion?  â Reassuring, I suppose. â a faerie companion is practically the mark and signature of a scholar.  â Her name is Eos. She doesnât speak, but she possess a plentiful amount of magicks to help in healing. Without her, I wouldnât be able to heal others efficiently. ⌠um, she can be mischievous in her own way, but it seems that I have some issues summoning her since I got to this city. â
âOutside of magical tricks, anyways.â The shy type, eh? Bemused by her reaction, the âhumanâ standing there would place a hand on her hip, smirking.Â
Listening on to the otherâs description of her fairy partner, Mamizou would cross her arms and nod as Manako continued, an eyebrow raised. Healing magic... that certainly was a unique talent. âSo she canât even talk, eh? Now howâs about that. Iâm rather used to the sort of types that jabber endlessly mâself.â
âMighty fascinating, hearing all that. Where I come from, only fools would call a fairy reassuringâ but in your case, she sure sounds like a reliable sort. Ainât that nice.â She chuckles some more. The fact that it sounded like a mutual trust sort of partnership was quite nice to hear. âA shame about yer summoning issues, though. My own magic has been on the fritz ever since I popped up here... but speakinâ of magic, you said ya focus on healing, huh? Thatâs an interesting choice.â
wishpsynergyâ:
âWell, it is surprising that you are a newcomer. I just recently arrived today, I think, I donât remember how I got here.â Sheâs unsure whether anyone remembers anyhow, but the tanuki woman before her seemed to take in stride. âSo no, you donât act like it in the slightest.
The little djinn that accompained her watching from her shoulder, attentively, at the stranger. It wags its tail, a little, but never moves away from Miaâs sight. A hand goes for its head, patting it lightly.
âHm? The fireworks?â Her cyan eyes meet with a colorful spectacle in the sky, brightening the night in the fullest. Wide-eyed, sheâs awestruck at the beauty of the fireworks, there in the boardwalk - oh, but how beautiful they were! A smile creeps through as she observes.
âOh, theyâre so nice! Theyâre so pretty!â
âFrom the looks of things, most people donât. I wouldnât expect any answers from me about all that stuff, either. At the end of the day, you and I are both stuck in the same mud boat.â Siiiip. While taking another drink of her sake, however, sheâd spy Miaâs djinn with a single opened eye, staring right back at it.
Odd little thing. Certainly was no mere pet, either. Closing her eyes, sheâd pull back her drink and pleasantly sigh once more, head tilting upwards.
Watching as the sky burst once more into light, Mamizou would smile at the sight.
âMhm. Pretty indeed. Thatâs another thing that summer canât go without ya knowâ a bunchâa fireworks to set off the skies.â Lowering her gaze to watch as the other appreciates the lightshow, she again examines the djinn, before chuckling. âNameâs Mamizou, by the way. How âbout you, Missy? ... And does your pal there got a name, too?â
She points a finger towards the djinn, looking bemused.
wishpsynergyâ:
âFestivals? So thatâs why the place seemed so busy at the time - is that common here during these days?â
Truthfully, Mia couldnât quite say she had the most time for festivals and such; as dedicated to her duties as she was, a part of her silently wished that sheâd get a small break of two. Of course she enjoyed her work - how could she not? It kept people safe, and it felt good to do the right thing, to help the sickly and the bed-ridden to come back to health. But, well, everyone needed some fun every now and then, didnât they?
âAh, apologies. I just arrived recently here, Iâm still not quite sure how everything works, nor familiar with any local festivities whatsover.â
âThese days, sure seems like it. But in the first place, summerâs all about festivals, donât ya know? I reckon it just ainât summer without some kind of celebration or hullabaloo goinâ on! ... Ah, but is that right? Yer a newbie to these parts?â She takes another drink, before flashing Mia a bright smile. âWell what a coincidenceâ so am I! But I bet I donât act like it, do I? As a matter of fact, Iâm a pretty amazinâ adapter!â
By being used to acting as the underdog, Mamizou supposed it couldnât be helped that sheâs gotten as acquainted as she have already. Then again, sheâs also always been an adept at learning the ins and outs of wherever she went.
âAnyways, save your apologies for another time. Take a look! The fireworks are just startinâ.â She points to the sky as she takes another sip, and indeedâ a burst of colorful light would soon explode, lighting up the night. And soon, others would follow suit. Sheâs seated away from the boardwalk and away from the crowdsâ so one might say this was the perfect vantage point. âMighty nice ones they got here, indeed.â
âMaybe itâs just me, but the timing of this festival must really help to snap folks outta their culture shock after being kidnapped and allâ donât ya think? âCause no matter what language you speak, anyone can get behind a festival.â
âEspecially when thereâs drinks involved! And there ainât no easier way to lull the hearts and dull the minds of shaken folks than by knocking back a drink or two! Hohoho! Cheers!â Raising her bottle of sake, the âhumanâ proceed to go and take a nice, long drinkâ to which sheâd pull away from with a refreshed exhale.Â
âNot that Iâm shaken. I just like a nice drink every now and then! Hohohoho!â
faepactâ:
with the opening of newer grounds to roam, Manako would never pass an offer to do as suchâespecially in a forest, of all places! even if it didnât take long to attract some ⌠tricksters, to say the least. the pixies were none too far from the pixies on the First, so of course she knows how to get along with them. never tell them a name, humor them only on certain things, and definitely donât touch their stuff. nothing too difficult, right?Â
    â Oh, umâ â
she looks on at the approaching woman, a bit startled by the sudden appearance. some of the pixies flutter away with a giggle, and others watch. Â
â I ⌠suppose so, yes. â Manako nods.  â A place named Il Mheg ⌠pixies live there, where Iâm from. â maybe sheâll leave out the part where she slayed their king and crowned another.  â Theyâre really not all that bad when you know how to ⌠erm, humor them. â
â And I guess it helps that I have my own faerie companion, too. Do you enjoy studying their magicks, too âŚ? â
âWhere in the heck was an Il Mheg supposed to be?â, was Mamizouâs first thought. Not that she was much of a geographical expert of the world, but she had her fair share of knowledge of Western countries. Though, she supposed, this could be a place from one of these âother worldsâ sheâd heard from listening in on folks...
So perhaps the where didnât really matter, in this regard. Regardless, it sure was a strange name, she mused. âThat right, Missy?â
âThen itâs just no wonder why you and those pixies were lookinâ like some real snug peas in a pod. And to even have your own fairy companion...â Sounds like a handful, if this girl was used to were anything like the ones she knew. â... Hm? Me? No, no.â
The sudden question poised to the âhumanâ elicits an immediate laugh.
âHohoho! Ya see, Iâm more fondâa studying their tricks. I come from a place where one can find them lil fellas flitting about all overâ which makes it hard not to catchâem pulling the wool over someoneâs eyes every now and again!â Crinkling her nose as a pixie fly by her face, Mamizou cants her head slightly. âThough, Iâve never met someone who actually has a fairy companionâ save for the fairies themselves. Whatâs that like?â

epitaphriddleâ:
She looked over at this stranger with a small pout finding itâs way across her face.
âMy magic power is limited among humans⌠Otherwise, I would have planned something more spectacular!â
Even though this person suddenly snuck up behind her, âBeatriceâ was glad for it. Back on Rokkenjima, the only partner she had in her pranks was Maria- who only occasionally visited the island. This woman⌠She might make a good partner in crime!
âSomething like that is a bit dangerous, no? Itâs not a curse if I end up accidentally killing him in the process. A curse is a drawn out method of torture that can last a lifetimeâŚ!!!â
Hm⌠Then this may not be very good either. Itâs only an idle prank- sheâs not going to follow him for a lifetime/
âVery well, I think youâre a worthy partner. I am Beatrice- and you are?â
âOhh, is that right? Quite a finicky magic ya got there...â This immediately attracted her attention, nowâ though sheâd feign interest for the time being. Magic-wielding sorts were always good to keep an eye on, after all.
Standing up straight, letting a hand rest on her hip, the âhumanâ at her side grinned as she looked at Beatrice. She had a keen enough eye for these things indeed, Mamizou thought. But to begin with, the strongest curses were the sort that persisted even more than a lifetime.
âIf he ainât going to drink it, then I donât see the problemâ but anywho!â
âBeatrice, eh? Fancy name. Mineâs Mamizou. As a magical trick-pullinâ specialist myself, I like your gusto! So itâs nice to make your acquaintance, Missy!â
Magic-using sorts like her were the perfect type to make an ally, she thought.
archivistedâ:
It seems heâd been fortunate enough to have arrived on the island during a time of festival. All of the activity and the sights and the sounds had been enough to distract him from the disquieting fact that he had no real idea where he was. Heâd been able to put a name to the place ( Spirale ) but it wasnât any better than having no name at all; heâd never heard of it, never seen it on a map. Now the day was winding down, the stars were making their appearance one by one, and he had been given time to think. He stared into the cup of tea he was gripping with both hands, a furrow in his brow. He only had one question on his mind â how would he get back to Paris from here? Surely someone had noticed him missing by now.
         Right?
These thoughts were troubling but, thankfully, he didnât have to sit with them for long. He hadnât even had the time to say âplease doâ before the young woman was taking a seat across from him. Her questions had derailed his train of thought completely, but he wasnât mad about it.Â
âThe sights are wonderful! Iâve never seen anything like some of the things they have here.â The technology alone was brilliant, so different from back home. âI havenât tried much of the foodâŚâ Not that he would be a good judge of whether or not it was poorly made. He went to take a sip of his own beverage, wrinkling his nose as he realized it had gone cold. Heâd been brooding too long.Â
Studying the other for a moment, letting him dwell in his thoughts before he spoke in return sheâd chuckle at the otherâs sudden zeal. With the look that had been on his face just moments ago, he certainly looked rather troubled, anyhow.
Then again, sights like these were enough to dazzle even the most shocked of folk who had just arrived, sheâd supposeâ what with the variety of it all.
âThat so? Well, ainât that swell to hear! Sounds pretty similar to what most peopleâve been telling me too, ya know. And for the most part, Iâm partial to agree. This place sure ainât like home! Hoho...â She watches as he takes a drink, focusing on his face.
âThatâs what happens when ya donât enjoy yourself right away.â
Offering her bottle to the other, with a friendly smile, Mamizou exclaims, âTry someâa this instead. Hot or coldâ always tastes great!â
princevirtueâ:
â : at first, sheâs mildly surprised and bemused to see the shrine maiden of paradise here on the island, but quickly does her good mood turn to suspicion upon further examination of the girl before her. miko hasnât had much contact with reimu of late, but she could certainly swear that her diction was quite⌠different than this. had she access to the full range of her ability, she might have been able to see right to the heart of the matter.
âŚthough, really, it wasnât that difficult to guess who might act in such a manner. she hadnât even bothered to ditch that elderly mannerism of hers.
âahaha.â her laughter is somewhat flat, forced. sheâs in on the ruse now. âyou know, i have a distinctly different memory of those long summer days â and quite a different memory of your behavior. i must say i expected some of your disrespect, but not to this extent.â
âbut then, what am i to accept as truth from a bake-danuki? âŚmiss mamizou, you may drop your disguise whensoever you please. unless you enjoy poorly playing a servant to the gods?â
âHuhâ whaâ ya figured me out so easily?! But my disguise was darn near perfect!â Feigning utter shock at the Crown Princeâs achievement, she proceeded to laugh once more as the form of the Hakurei Shrine Maiden began to grow smoky.
âAs expected of one such as yourself, I suppose! Hoho, but I am quite fond of this look, ya know. After all, Reimuâs already so youkai-like.â
âMuch more entertaininâ to take her form than yours, anywho!â
The shrine maidenâs hair stands up on end as her form is soon obscured by the smoke-like transformative processâ and soon, standing in the girlâs place was the tanuki in all her splendor, tail landing on the ground with a slight thud as sheâd shift from the position she was leaning at, to sitting thusly on her prided appendage.
âIâm fairly sure I recall beatinâ you up back then mâself, ya know. Anyhow, where was I...? Ah, right. So, how ya takinâ life here, Princey?â
@ofsadoâ
âOhohohoho!!â
A woman giggles excitedly to herself. Ah, a student at Spirale University had insulted Sayo in her âKanonâ persona repeatedly- and while âKanonâ brushed it off, âBeatriceâ would never forget that moment. She had been picked on enough back on Rokkenjima, sheâd make sure that anyone who tormented her in this world would never get away with it.
âJust by pulling this string, which was carefully wrapped around the cap of his water bottle, the entire thing will spill all over him. This will be my curse, for disrespecting my name. Hmm⌠Itâs not as fun without a partnerâŚâ
Is she petty? Yes.
âHohohoho! Not bad! A bit juvenile, but a nice trick nonetheless!â
And right besides her, the âhumanâ woman suddenly giggled besides her, with a broad smirk across her face as she did so. Having sneaked up behind the other, she thought they seemed the mischievous type. And sure enoughâ her intuition was correct!
Rubbing her chin, looking at Beatrice with amusement, the âhumanâ would nod.
âNice as a trick, that is. Not much of a curse if ya ask me. If youâre gonna curse someone, youâve got to go the extra mile! Like that water, for instance...â
âSay ya replaced it with somethinâ just as clearâ like bleach. Ruin his clothes, while youâre at it!â Snickering slightly, the woman idly tilted her head down at her. âSo, whatâs this about looking for a partner then, Miss Big Shot?â
Horns were always an interesting feature to see, and always a telltale sign that an individual wasnât human. Though, this girl certainly had an interesting pair. Far unlike the sort she was used to seeing among oni-kind or similar sorts. And even with scales, almost like what you might find on a mermaid... a curious girl indeed.
And then there was the tail, too... certainly wasnât as impressive as hers, though.
â... You certainly get along well with those pixies, donâtcha?â Striking up a conversation with her after having watched her for a moment, the human-disguised tanuki would approach Manako with a smile. âUsed to livinâ around these sorts?â
âI sure am myselfâ more so fairies than these lil fellers, though. Might as well be the same, with how tricky they are! Aside from the difference in sizes, and all.â
It was rude to just ask someone about their kindâ so sheâd go the roundabout way. A little nice casual conversation was relaxing to have now and then, anyways.

The light of the moon over the Cotes Ward was brightâ illuminating the garden decorated with miniature planets and stars nicely. Just the perfect time to indulge in the Star-Den Tea Party, really is what the woman thoughtâ though, really, whatâs better than tea right now is a nice cup of alcohol. Fortunately, she had her own to bring for the occasion.
âLovely lilâ tea party they got goinâ on, ainât it?â Approaching the solitary vampire, the human-transformed tanuki sat on across from him. âDonât mind if I join, do ya? Ainât much of a party if yer sittinâ by yerself, after all! Hohoho!â
âSo. You enjoyinâ it? ... The sights I mean. Not the foodâ although Iâd give these quiches they got a solid seven outta ten if you asked me. Just a mite too salty.â
Adjusting her spectacles, sheâd offer Noe a small, friendly smile... before bringing the gourd she had strapped to her side to her lipsâ indulging in not tea, but sake.
âAaah, thatâs the stuff! Far better than the tea or coffee they got here...â
@archivistedâ
âWell now, arenât you a sight for sore eyes? Though, normally Iâd say yer more of an eyesore than anything else. Hohoho!â The Crown Prince was indeed a surprising face to find wandering about this place. Calm and composed as per usualâ on the surface, it seemed to her that Miko was getting along just fine in this sort of environment. âMeetinâ in an atmosphere like this sure feels familiar too, donât it?â
âA festival-like air durinâ the middle of summer... brings back fond memories of me kickinâ yer butt back during those religious wars a few years ago!â
The âHakurei Shrine Maidenâ gives off another odd laugh, as she leans against a nearby streetlight. With a canted head, the girl gives the other a bemused look.
âSo! Been here long? Enjoyinâ the modern life? Busy proselytizing?â
Although sheâs jabbing the other, âReimuâ was mostly just playing around. Sheâs barely even bothering to act like the girl she appeared as, after all.
