- maya was born on the island of capri to an italian mother (lucia) + an african american father (elijah). - her dad was from savannah, georgia and came to italy for a study abroad program. he met lucia and basically decided that capri is where he would stay. - maya is the middle child and eldest daughter. she has an older brother and younger sister that she absolutely adores. - she is a total daddy's girl. she learned how to cook from her dad and she learned how to bake from her mom. she quickly discovered that feeding people was her favorite way of showing love. - she grew up splitting her time between the sea, family gatherings and being an extra set of helping hands in whichever kitchen needed her - maya went to culinary school in her early twenties, and spent some time traveling across europe before returning home. - maya dreams of one day opening a cafe or restaurant that can be a place where the locals come and enjoy themselves. were tourists can come and see a bit of the real capri, not just the insta-worthy views. - grew up with MUSE A of the saturn returns subplot. MUSE A has been one of the constants in her life and who she sometimes feels she knows better than herself. or she used to at least. things are changing and it frustrates and scares her. - unlike many of her peers, maya always seemed to know where she was headed. even when her plans changed, she was always working towards a goal. - maya is the dependable friend — the one that always answers the phone, the one that shows up without being asked and the person others can rely on - as such she developed the bad habit of carrying her own burdens in silence, convinced she can handle things on her own without inconveniencing others
