Geralt was a child surprise; it had been his father, Korin, who had promised the witcher Vesemir the law of surprise after a lost wager. The warrior returned home to find Visenna of the glade pregnant with his son. The druid priestess was able to bargain with the witcher for five years before she finally was forced to give her son over to be put through the trials. As time went by, Geralt’s memories of his mother faded, soon not knowing more than a name and brief memories of her face that he could have imagined for all he knew.
