“you guys brought ice cream on your picnics? we never did that but our neighborhood did have an ice cream truck! So that was fun!”

“well, no it would melt but we’d always get ice cream at one point.” 

Bekket made a face. “Barbecues suck.” He whined in complaint. “There’s always screaming children and bees and food I can’t eat. What’s even the point?” 

Frowning Mara nodded a bit. “i mean, i guess i understand. i just was thinking about how fun it would be to enjoy the outside and the food besides i don’t know any children.”

“ i’m all for the highway to hell. i’m an avid visitor– but i’m not feelin it this year. give me some monstrous fireworks though and i might change my mind.” he laughed, hands placed over his chest in defense.” aye– no arguments here.”.

“ what about a picnic that watches fireworks? does that help you change your mind? hey it could be the fourth of july as we know it might as well enjoy it!” biting her lower lip, she nodded a bit embarrassed. “oh, sorry. i just misunderstood.” 

“Why not organize a picnic then? Lockwood loves a good event, official or not,” he offered, shrugging a shoulder. “You can serve nothing but watermelon, ice cream and the occasional shot of tequila.”

“ is it terrible if i’m feeling okay with skipping the fourth this year?– more power to you on the watermelon situation though.”

“you can’t just skip the fourth because the country is first in line on the highway to hell. it’s a lovely holiday that’s full of picnics and fireworks and joy. watermelon is the best summer fruit and i dare some to convince me otherwise.”

“Okay, uh, fuckin’, alright? Is there a deeper meaning, a–– frickin’ reason as to why there needs to be a watermelon, or no?” 

“no watermelon is just the best fruit of the summer and i will support it forever. do i have a problem with watermelon?”

“well, why don’t we put one together? i wouldn’t want you to cry!”

“ugh please i’m dying for a good picnic they’re my favorite things!”

( JODIE COMER | 22 |SHE/HER ) I swear I saw MARA PAXTON  around campus yesterday. I hear SHE is very HUMBLE, DETERMINED & MEEK, which explains why when you think of them, you’d think of RAIN DROPS HITTING PUDDLES & OVERSIZED SWEATERS WITH HOLES. They’re in their THIRD year and studying CRIMINOLOGY .
