ice to meet you !

Lisa returns to her body and lures the guard into her cell; him a knee to the groin she takes his weapons and keys. Knowing the other guards wouldn’t hesitate to hit the kill switch on the power collars fixed upon the other mutants Lisa removes a small throwing knife she kept hidden in the lining of her boot. Hesitating for a moment preparing herself for the possible pain, she then uses her phasing ability to reach into the wall and cut the power. Which in turn deactivated the collars and opened all cell doors, the rooms and halls now lit only by the low glow of the emergency lights. 

“Well now I know just how important.” She responds with a happy laugh. “Thank you I do appreciate your vote of confidence. I do know that with practice anything is possible so I’ll just keep on practicing.” Sigyn takes a moment to think about his last question then with a bright smile. “I vote we practice again later but for now, ice cream is sounding amazing. What do you think?”

Harry absentmindedly flipped through the pages in front of him, unbothered when he heard footsteps approaching. Since returning back to his normal life after being put in the care of a medical institution and regular visits with a criminal psychologist for a period of time, his demeanor was…. different. He still carried the weight of his father’s death, but was considered “cured“ from their perspectives. 

“I don’t know what they’ve been saying about me…. but I’m not crazy. It was evaluated.” His tone was colder, his fingers now paused at the corner of a page. In the back of his mind, he wasn’t sure he had anyone left in the world that he had returned to - what had been said in his absence, and what were they saying now? His thoughts lingered, and he wasn’t sure he was prepared for any of the answers about his own return.

Bobby looks over at the man, who looks familiar, but he hasn’t been as caught up on local news as much as one would like to be. He tucks his phone away into the pocket of his jeans. He was never one to worry about what anyone was saying — when you’re a Mutant the whole world is against you, and the media can’t really be trusted for as opinions go. “No worries — I don’t really listen to what anyone says about other people usually. Especially reporters, they don’t know what they’re talking about.”

Lisa laughs lightly and gives a careless shrug and responds with her own personal opinion. “The ones who truly hate us will always hate us. Putting them into diabetic shock with sweet words wont change that.” Even she hated how cynical her experiences had made her but so far they haven’t been proven wrong. “See you there.” Lisa remarks as she sees him begin to skate off, feeling a bit of nostalgia as her astral self goes to check out the outside of the building as she waits for him to arrive.  

Satisfied that she was able to push him away just enough that she was hopeful he wouldn’t want to get much closer to her; yet not enough to make him back out on the plan. “I promise I’ll try my best not shoot anyone or break anyone’s heart…well not literally at least. I will have to charm the guard just a bit. Though I can’t guarantee they won’t accidentally get hit by their own ‘friendly fire’.” 

“To quote my brother, hero aint on my resume. I just find it amusing to play pretend once in a while.” She skillfully lies with an amused smirk playing upon her lips. In reality she was immensely proud of her brother’s heroic acts closer to the end of his life. Although she always knew him as her personal hero that wasn’t a persona they both hid from the world and often even themselves. “Well then, I won’t hold back on having fun with it.” 

“No problem. I can be a nice girl from time to time, just as long as no one expects it of me. That would get really boring after a while.” She wondered if anyone knew that this was the type of thing she did all the time since they got back to 2019. She had been nervous enough asking for help and never wanted to show she was just as human as the next person. The trust issues ran deep within her and she never wanted to give anyone ammunition to use against her. “Sounds good. I’ll try to leave some of the fun for you, but no promises.” 

“Of course, I wouldn’t just send you on a wild goose chase. Well..not this time at least.” She responds with a coy smile. “700 L’Enfant Plaza, South West section of DC.” Lisa’s gaze carefully studies Bobby’s body language as he prepares and speaks. “They’re fairly heavily armed, but I can handle most of them. I just need you to focus on getting our fellow freaks to safety.” Honestly, Lisa didn’t mind risking everything as long as Bobby gets the rest of the metas and mutants to safety. Something she knew they probably had in common, though she didn’t feel compelled to express it to him.

It’s the type of normalcy that they both deserved but were often so cheated out of. Life wasn’t fair for the mutant kind but it was refreshing to know that they could still enjoy the little moments. Ororo mimics Bobby, creating skates using the chill air found the atmosphere around them. “ should we have a race?”

the journal on the table is as worn as any could get but the memories that fill them are deeply cherished to the girl, which is why she’s yet to get rid of it. and although she’d only been at the cafe for about 15 minutes the page was almost half full. yes, she’s almost 30 and she still writes about her feelings, it’s how she stays sane. it’s not long till maya realizes that a person is looking for a place to sit in the busy coffee shop, so she stops her writing to motion at the seat across from her. “the seat is open if you’d like, i don’t bite.” she continues, offering a gentle grin.

“um..i mean it sounds pretty fun.” the blonde remarks with a shrug, eyes falling down to the snowball between his hands. she doesn’t really ask how considering she already knows he deals with ice powers. “just as long as we don’t get in trouble and you don’t laugh when i fall on my ass. i’m not the greatest skater.”

“I KNOW you did not just make a pun, bro. you’re not allowed to do that around me. puns are illegal in johnny-ville.” the faux-serious expression on his face soon melted into a nonchalant grin, and he was back to showing off to his friend in no time. “this sorta thing ain’t even wild there. it’s… simple entertainment. freakin’ genius, if you ask me. anyway, the octopus, yeah? so it’s climbin’ up my thigh, being all… tentacle-y, and slimy and disgusting, and this pool– okay, it was a kiddie-pool, with little flowers on it…. that doesn’t matter, so I was supposed to balance these three balls on my head, but this sauce man… this sauce is not only sticky and delicious… it’s also slippery. at one point I freaked out and fell on my ass, and honestly, I don’t remember much what happened after. I think my team lost, which is clearly BULLSHIT, but… whatever. Japan was cool.”

“so, ONE TIME, they asked me to be on this Japanese game show, right? and… W-WAIT, stay with me, this is going to be hilarious!” was he flirting? was he for real? did he even remember half of that trip to japan, other than that huge monster with the tentacles and the karaoke bar afterwards? no. and?  “–and, there I was, standing in a pool of teriyaki sauce, some weird-lookin’ octopus clinging onto my—–   ….You still with me? ”

A light umph sound comes out of Sigyn as she feels herself begin to fall. Instead of attempting to stop herself she simply rotates a little to land on her back rather than her stomach. Once fully landed on the ground she laughs again and looks up at Bobby. “That you did. I’ve always had a problem keeping my focus, but thank you for reminding me how important it is.” 

“Thanks, it was a real pain to acquire but it comes in handy from time to time.” Bobby’s thumbs up makes her laugh on the inside while on the outside she simply smirks and nods. “As far as I can tell they are more afraid than hurt. I don’t know for sure though because when they ‘caught’ me my body passed out while I projected out. But the longer we stand here talking about it the more likely they are to get hurt so.. are you coming or do I have to go fishing again?”

“Well, duh!” Ororo laughs, agreeing with Bobby, watching with awe as he finishes the ice rink with ease and finesse. “I’m so excited for this!”

tim was working on a case for a new treat for the last two days, growing irritated as he could usually crack this by now and didn’t want to ask for help. maybe taking a break for a bit wouldn’t be such a bad idea. “ i only been ice skating a few times, therefore i may just fall on my ass. but count me in. “
