Max smiled DJ was the one person who grounded him in the world. While they weren’t twins by any means they were brothers and Max loved him. “Well I don’t even know if she will want to hear from me but I gotta try. Dad is even worse now. Maybe if we at least find my sister we can bring her back.. Is it weird I don’t hate her even though she just left me?”

The older brother ran a hand through the longish brown hair, as he processed all that information. Max’ plans were a lot to digest, yet DJ understood the basics of it. “I’m not saying it’s wrong. I even want to come with you, to see Dad myself.” He supported his plan to check in on his aunt and their father. Curious about the man, who had been dead according to their moms. Even more so curious about what their sister was like.

A PUFF OF AIR CAME FROM HER NOSE AS HE SHOWED HER HIS STICK. it was neat, actually, compared to judith’s revolver covered in stickers from her childhood and inevitable scratches. nobody had sheltered her like they had dj. sure, michonne tried her best for a few years after rick’s disappearance but it was unavoidable that she would exposure herself to the bad of the world eventually. thinking back on it actually, everyone at alexandria had tried their best to shelter her. she just wouldn’t allow them. judith wanted to be like her dad and carl so much that she didn’t heed any of their warnings. in a sense, dj had gotten the childhood she never had.

“ well hey, ” she said, shrugging her shoulders up to her ears, “ you’re not too shabby for someone who just learned all this stuff recently. maybe i could teach you a thing or two about being a big kid. ” the words were satire ; a joking manner. a friendly elbow went up to shove at dj’s arm. oddly enough, as judy got older she became more childish. it was her way of making up for the wasted time, she assumed.

The stickers had caught his attention when Judith had the revolver pointed at the threat, that he was too afraid of killing himself. Had drawn the focus away from protecting them and instead let him think about that Tara used to bring those home for the boy too when he was younger.

JUDITH NODDED SLOWLY. to be completely honest, she didn’t quite understand what dj had meant. why be scared of diving into something? especially if you’d have to do it eventually anyways. there was a small chuckle as she moved her eyes to meet dj’s. she shook her head side to side, contradicting her earlier movements. “ why though? what’s so scary about it? ” she asked, quirking her head to the side. it was a genuine question. she didn’t mean to mock him or hurt his feelings, as much as it might have seemed that way. a hand rested gently on her hip. one leg seemed to be carrying all of her weight as they stood there together just a few miles outside the gates of alexandria.

“ ya know. . . ” judith said, scratching at her nose and repositioning herself, “ i think that the scary stuff is the easiest to do. the instincts take over and shit, right? ” her hands moved sporadically as she spoke, as if she were telling the most engaging story in the world.

As expected it didn’t have need much time to show how different they still were, yet both of them had gained much more understanding of each other’s view of the world. 

Sure both their parents had tried sheltering them on their own ways, but Judith had received the needed training to protect herself much earlier than DJ had. He didn’t take any offense in these facts. Yet he was starting to realize how much everyone else in their age range were still ahead of him in many ways possible.
