Official Time Spirit Lore

Welcome to the official lore page of Time Spirits. 

I am aiming to fill this page full of lore, so if anyone has anything to ask about the characters or the universe that they live in, this page might help. Also this will help me keep track and grow this little universe of mine so it will be easier for me to eventually create a game out of it. 

I don’t want to say this but I feel its necessary, I am not taking suggestions regarding the lore. This is my story that I already have plenty of ideas that I want to put in so I’m not asking for more ideas. I hope you all can understand this.

Basic Info

-There are many many many realms in this universe but where my focus is and is going to be is the Timeless Realm or Time Realm. There is a crystal that works as a waypoint for every spirits. They only reach in between other waypoints that are in that specific realm. 

However there are spirits that can move to different realms. The spirits that have the most influence which are the death and life spirits and then the spirits that don’t have as much influence which are the lost spirits. Damned spirits are locked into the realm they become damned in. 

Timeless Realm

-Essentially it’s the realm of time. That’s where the Time Spirits roam and work to keep the time working smoothly. Realms in general blend and clash into each other every now and then so some objects or clothing might get in and usually they are not dangerous but Time Spirits are usually vary of unknown objects. Clothing they pick up most of the time and it is found to be quite essential part of keeping their humanity intact.

Basic Info

The names that the spirits have based on their color was what they gave themselves. It’s part of their humanity shining through and the Life and Death spirits didn’t mind. In fact their names were also given by the Time Spirits as well.  (All these names are words in Japanese, take it as you may, that language just sounds beautiful to me!)

None of these spirits shouldn’t meddle with time flow. If they choose to use their powers to disturb the flow of time, they will get punished for it. Depending how severe their involvement was, their punishment might go as far as the Life and Death spirits damning them.  

Future Spirits - Mirai/Shorai

-Translated to English Mirai means Future and so does Shorai. Mirai is the blue one and Shorai the purple. They keep future part of time intact and keep everything that is to come, still coming. Their core ability is to being able to see in future, all the different outcomes. This knowledge they aren’t allowed to share with other spirits apart from their own type. It is a punishable offence. 

Present Spirits - Kyo/Ima

-Translated to English Kyo means today and Ima means now. Kyo is the red one and Ima is orange. Their responsibility is to keep the present time flowing. The different between keeping present time working apart from past or future is that if something happens in present, everything stops. The present spirits are the most important Time Spirits and if they fail to do their job properly, or abuse their powers, they will nearly always get destroyed, no chance to stay as a damned spirit. Present spirits are physically intact with the time so even keeping themselves safe and sound is one step to the right direction. 

Past Spirits - Mae/Kako

-Translated to English Mae means before and Kako means past. Mae is yellow and Kako is green. It’s up to them to make sure the past doesn’t fall apart. If the past falls apart it’s gonna destroy rest of the time like domino effect. While messing up with that job isn’t as dangerous as it is being a present spirit, its still not good to use your powers for yourself. Past Spirits core ability is to have a perfect memory about everything and anything that has happened. They can tap into anytime that is considered past. Basically they are all knowing spirits. 

Life and Death Spirits Shi/Inochi

-Translated to English Shi means death and Inochi means life (surprise...). Shi is the black one and Inochi is the white one. They are the ones who designed the looks of the spirits. Different realms have different looks, or that is believed. Shi and Inochi are the guiding ones and they are the ones that are believed to be impossible to destroy. They are as one would say “Gods”. They can take whatever form they wish but they can’t do anything that is outside of life and death. No spirit can turn into Life or Death spirit. 

Unispecified/Unknown Spirit Kihaku is the spirit you become after you die. Kihaku name translates to spirit or soul. As Kihaku you don’t have abilities and you are vulnerable for danger. That’s why you see them following Life and Death spirits very carefully. Kihaku spirits should steer away from the lost and damned souls. 

With the guidance of the Life and Death spirit, Kihaku learns about the Timeless Realm and all of the spirits there. They end up in one of the time spirit job eventually, depends where they feel most pull to and their overall character. Some people stay as Kihaku because they feel like they are in peace as such and since they can’t cause any trouble, no one minds them. 

Lost Spirits - Fumei

- Fumei translates to lost or missing. They are the ones that most likely did something wrong as Time Spirits. If their offence wasn’t bad enough to get destroyed, they just end up as Damned spirits. Unless they get an artificial soul in time.  Artificial soul is part of waypoint crystal. There are countless amount of those crystals and the younger the crystal, the better results. Artificial souls corrupts spirits when it is placed in the chest. The color changes are part of the corruption and if the cracks reach back to the soul, the spirit will get destroyed. The soul also affects their physical form and for whatever reason they end up having longer tails than any of the other spirits but shorter ears. 

Fumei spirits tend to wander around but don’t pose any real danger unless you attack them. They are in constant feeling of emptiness and some can endure it forever and some may just end up ripping the soul off and destroying themselves.
