Borb is a spectrum - some borbs are only lightly borb, while others fully commit and reach "new sport just dropped" level. That is, so round they're like a ball. Most birds can be borbs, or are always borbs, such as penguins. But to reach the exquisite level I strive to provide on Official Borb Posting is a rarer feat, certainly. Borbs come in different varieties. Permanent Borbs, or borbs that are always borbacious, include only the roundest of birds, like penguins. Here on Official Borb Posting, we're rarely looking for Permanent Borbs, though keep in mind that Permanent Borbs can borb up in different ways that may make them qualify. Another important variety are Shorbs, a portmanteau of shorebird and borb. Common shorbs include the turnstones, plovers, and oystercatchers, while taller shorebirds such as redshanks and avocets tend to get less shorby with increased height (though this doesn't, of course, disqualify the ones who beats the odds and achieve borbiness). I could go on and on about the varieties of borbs, but the final one I'd like to talk about isn't even a borb at all, only an imposter. Floofs are oftentimes confused with borbs, but as the Audubon Society made clear in their amazing article on the difference between the two, floofing is merely a state, while borbing is a lifestyle. Sure, some borbs can be borbier at times than they are normally, but floofing requires the skilled manipulation of the feathers to *seem* bigger than you really are. In other words, borbs can floof, but floofs can't borb, because there is no such bird as a 'floof,' only a state they can be in. Despite all this, we will count eligible floofs in with borbs for this page.
