No one tells you that you end up dating your phone. When you’re out at social events with your friends and family, you’re glued to your phone just wishing that they were there and maybe, JUST MAYBE if you talk about all the hypothetical things that you guys would do if they were there, it’ll feel like it’s true. No one tells you that you go to bed more alone than ever, just wishing that they were wrapped up in your arms but instead you spend the night FaceTiming to sleep just wishing and hoping that the connection will lost long enough to be able to see their face when you wake up. And no one tells how much their smell means to you, and you do anything to wear their shirt over and over just to feel like you’re with them. No one tells you that you don’t have money for anything. You save for the next trip to see each other, and friends don’t understand why you have to pass on a night out because they don’t realize that the hardest you miss them, the more you want to save and the less you want to be around people because all you want to do is be around them. No on tells you how much an I miss you or an I love you means and no matter how many texts get exchanged through the day, you don’t get to see them all day or know what they ate for lunch. No one tells you how fucking hard it is to say goodbye. Each goodbye hurts a little bit more because half your heart stays with them and then you spend the whole plane ride trying to fight back tears. Not to mention going back to reality. It’s fucking hard to adjust to long distance after seeing them for a certain amount of time 24/7 and then next thing you know youre back to dating your phone. No one tells you how bad you need that 2 minute FaceTime call or goodnight text, or 30 second voicemail. Yes, it’s fucking hard. But let me tell you, with the right person, ITS SO WORTH IT.
