There was a point in the past few years that sheâd given up on the idea of falling in love ever again. Just about in her mid 30s with about zero love prospects until a few weeks ago, it was hard to hold onto the idea that sheâd ever have the fairytale she wanted. But then Tuck came along into her life, or rather came back into her life, at the perfect time, and it felt⌠different. Sheâd been in relationships with guys, maybe even a few sheâd be embarrassed to talk about, but Brooke knew she hadnât felt this way about someone in a really long time. It made her feel so much younger than she actually was, talking to her friends about him. âYou know, you think pretty highly of someone who used to refer to you as âbig head,ââ she let out a laugh as the words flowed out of her mouth. Of course, unknowing to him, her schoolyard tactics were based solely off of her now gone brother, Chaseâs advice. Because being mean to the person you like is the easiest way to get their attention. And while she carried that advice for her for too long, she knew sheâd outgrown that kind of life. âGuess itâs a good thing I think pretty highly of you, too.â
She liked Tuck, she really did. Brooke had a history of sabotaging her relationships, and she didnât want that to happen this time around. She didnât want to find a reason a few months down the line that would make her doubt herself. Because as cliche as it sounded, no matter how many times she told the world that the reason she broke up with her exes was because of them, it was always her. She was dark and twisty, and there were parts of herself that she didnât like very much. And having someone see that? See her for who she really was, the possibility of them rejecting her? It was too much. A part of her was trying to live in the moment and be happy that she was with Tuck right now, but another part of her thought about what would happen when he realized that she wasnât as put together as everyone thought.
âThat sounds perfect,â Brooke nodded âI could definitely use a night without people watching us, looking for the latest gossip. Guess thatâs what we get for living in a small town.â Sometimes just being around him, she didnât know exactly what to say, which was completely unlike Brooke. It was only when it came to his question, that she knew with full certainty, and full honesty, what to say. âYeah, I trust you.âÂ
Tucker couldnât remember the last time he actually wanted to get to know his dates rather than just skipping to the sleeping together part. He could count the times he had good chemistry with someone on one hand, and the older he got the idea that heâd never get to meet the right person had gotten a little scary. The only person that knew Tuck was actually somewhat afraid to end up alone was his brother, even though Tuck never said the words out loud. Nash never missed a chance to ask him when he was going to find someone he could settle down with.Â
For the first time in a long time, it felt good to get ready for a date and the fact that it was with none other than Brooke Parker just kept making things feel more interesting by the second. Tuck and Brooke knew each other. One could say that they went way back, but they werenât always close. It wasnât until recently that he felt like he was really getting to know her in a way he didnât think would ever happen. There was always something in the way, whether it was her relationship with Kiran when they were younger or the relationship he had with Kinsleigh almost ten years ago â something kept their paths from truly crossing.Â
Getting the chance to finally take Brooke Parker out, on his terms, was both exciting and a bit nerve wracking but in the best way possible but there was no going back now. Heâd been thinking about this more than he would admit tonight, and the important thing was to make sure she had a good time. He had heard of the many dates she had been on, through the gossip grapevine in town, and there had been many that struck out with her but he wouldnât allow that thought to plague his mind. It wasnât too much longer after they passed their townâs âWelcomeâ sign that they arrived at their destination. âSo this place isnât on a lot of peopleâs radar, I think thatâs cause people drive by way too fast,â he shrugged, exiting the truck to go get her door. âIn my opinion it beats the bars we got back in town.â It wasnât saying much since they only had two bars in town. âTonightâs one of their âspecialâ nights though cause itâs karaoke night..but they donât let just anyone do it. You gotta take four shots of Devilâs Springs before getting on stage.... But if thatâs too indimidatinâ then thereâs always pool and from time to time some people do this thing called dancing,â he said playfully rolling his eyes at the end. âFigured itâd be a good place to be in the right element.â
