the   cultists   being   terrified   of   their   presence   certainly   had   its   advantages,   however   for   the   moment   that   little   fact   could   do   nothing   to   remedy   the   situation   they   were   currently   in.   his   sister   seemed   content   to   toy   with   them   for   the   moment,   much   to   their   annoyance.   ❝   if   i   have   learned   anything   about   my   bloodkin   is   that   it   will   do   as   they   please.   ❞   given   that   their   bloodkin   could   shift   their   form   so   easily   it   would   present   quite   the   challenge   in   avoiding   her. 

they   had   other   matters   to   attend   to   as   well,   specifically   dealing   with   a   certain   lordling   hiding   behind   his   automaton   army   within   the   city.   ❝   perhaps   for   the   evening   we   should   find   an   inn.   ❞

orin's   presence   set   their   teeth   on   edge,   a   brewing   storm   of   anger   &   betrayal   was   growing   within   them.   they   should   have   seen   such   a   betrayal   coming,   they   had   been   foolish   to   assume   that   their   bloodkin   would   take   their   father's   choice   in   stride.   perhaps   once   malus   would   have   been   proud   of   being   their   father's   chosen,   but   now   all   they   felt   was   the   binds   around   them   tightening.   was   it   too   much   to   wish   for   freedom   ?   perhaps.

    turning   their   pale   gaze   to   @we4ved   they   spoke   softly   ❝   the   question   is   should   we   make   for   the   lower   city   or   remain   in   the   outer   one   ?   ❞   either   way   they'd   be   dealing   with   a   crowd   of   people,   but   the   outer   city   offered   more   reputable   services.

𝕸𝖊𝖙𝖆 : on murder.

this   is   something   that   i   know   goes   against   canon   for   the   durge   but   it   is   something   that   i   am   firm   on   with   my   portrayal.   malus   pre-lobotomy   did   not   just   kill   for   the   sake   of   killing   per   say.   getting   a   quick   &   easy   kill   for   the   sake   of   simple   murder   has   never   interested   him,   instead   he   prefers   to   plot   &   craft   a   plan   on   how   to   go   about   his   killings. 

he   would   kill   to   gain   access   to   resources,   to   further   his   agendas,   he   would   kill   for   clients,   in   short   more   mercenary   work   than   simple   murder.   he   learned   to   be   like   this   from   his   mentor   cazna   duskryn   who   hailed   from   menzoberranzan.

this   goes   against   bhaal's   wishes   as   bhaal   does   not   care   for   the   finer   details,   rather   just   wanting   muder   for   the   sake   of   murder.   there   were   times   where   bhaal   would   influence   malus   to   commit   murders   as   he   saw   fit,   much   like   we   see   in   the   durge's   story   where   he   kills   a   bard   while   sleeping. 

these   episodes   left   malus   feeling   rattled,   frustrated,   &   desperate   to   find   a   way   to   make   them   end.   malus   was   very   much   stuck   between   staying   loyal   to   his   father   &   having   agency   over   his   own   person.

ABILITY CHECK - history / rolled 14 + 4 to history : 18.

with   the   lock   successfully   picked   the   heavy   tome   in   his   hands   fell   open,   dust   scattering   into   the   air   from   the   motion.   pale   eyes   glance   over   the   worn   pages,   a   slight   frown   marring   their   features   as   they   read.   it   took   a   moment,   but   he   realized   what   he   was   looking   at.   ❝   dead   gods.   ❞   he   murmured   softly,   ever   aware   of   the   strange   being   that   they'd   inadvertently   freed   from   its   tomb   moving   about   in   the   main   hall   of   the   crypt.

    he   turns   slightly   so   @rimerotting   could   see   what   he   was   holding.   as   they   flipped   the   pages   their   eyes   settled   onto   the   last   entry   written   within.   whatever   had   been   written   there   was   too   damaged   by   time   to   make   out   however   something   about   this   bothered   him.

pale   fingers   moved   over   the   page   as   they   tried   to   make   out   any   further   details,   however   the   script   was   too   damaged.   ❝   three   gods   grouped   together   ...   ❞   he   spoke   without   realizing   he   was   voicing   his   thoughts   aloud.   despite   the   fragmenting   of   his   mind   the   answer   supplied   itself   suddenly   to   him.   ❝   the   dead   three.   ❞ 

just   saying   the   words   aloud   filled   him   with   a   strange   feeling   of   familiarity.   carefully   shutting   the   book   he   slipped   it   into   his   pack   before   turning   to   his   companion.   ❝   is   it   too   morbid   to   ask   if   we   could   camp   here   for   the   evening   ?   ❞   he   was   not   bothered   by   their   surroundings   however   he   knew   the   others   might   be.   ❝   it   is   growing   late   &   i   wish   to   see   if   there   is   anything   else   hiding   around   here.   ❞

❛ they found a body by the river. ❜

their   first   reaction   was   to   pause,   pale   eyes   widening   just   slightly   at   the   news   before   their   features   were   shifted   into   a   neutral   expression.   they   had   been   in   this   tiny   river   side   town   just   one   night   so   far,   but   apparently   not   without   incident.   malus   was   almost   certain   that   this   particular   body   was   not   one   that   he   was   responsible   for,   but   he   wouldn't   know   for   certain   till   he   saw   the   state   the   body   was   in. 

he'd   learned   through   unfortunate   circumstances   that   any   time   he'd   lost   control   while   sleeping   there   was   a   considerable   mess   left   behind,   along   with   specific   markings   in   blood   he'd   yet   to   decipher.   that   &   the   lack   of   the   creature   that   called   itself   his   butler   led   him   to   believe   that   for   once   he   was   not   at   fault   for   this   particular   incident.   still,   it   didn't   have   him   relaxing. 

❝   is   that   so   ?   ❞   he   is   stuck   trying   todecipher   what   this   statement   actually   meant.   was   it @ofweave   simply   informing   him   of   the   strange   activity   in   town   or   could   this   possibly   lead   into   a   discussion   about   past   incidents   ?   they   were   not   prepared   to   have   the   latter   option   become   a   reality   just   yet. 

tentatively   he   continues   speaking   ❝ is   this   your   way   of   suggesting   we   should   help   ?   ❞   he   could   already   hear   astarion's   protests   over   this   matter   should   he   decide   to   lend   assistance.
