003.  BIOGRAPHY.

their  father,  santiago  moreno,  and  their  mother,  valentina  flores,  were  both  internationally  recognized  instrumentalists.  they  loved  both  music  and  each  other  openly  and  intensely,  and  when  quetzal  was  born,  that  same  devotion  was  extended  without  hesitation  to  their  only  child.  there  was  never  doubt  that  they  would  be  supported.  there  was  also  never  doubt  that  they  would  be  exceptional.

from  early  childhood,  quetzal  grew  up  inside  studios  and  rehearsal  rooms,  gifted  only  the  most  expensive  equipment  and  encouraged  to  follow  in  their  parents'  footsteps.  but  quetzal  learned  early  how  to  perform  not  just  musically,  but  socially  as  well;  they  learned  how  to  be  pleasing  and  well-liked  enough  to  garner  fans.  nonetheless,  they  were  always  a  more  reserved  child,  preferring  to  make  use  of  their  creativity  in  settings  that  didn't  feel  overrun  by  their  parents'  fame. 

somewhere  in  adolescence,  they  started  experimenting  quietly  with  identity  in  ways  they  were  still  learning  to  understand.  clothing  became  the  first  outlet:  toying  with  silhouettes  depending  on  how  they  felt  that  day.  later  came  changes  to  their  pronouns,  then  gradual  understanding  that  gender  was  something  fluid  and  responsive  for  them.  when  they  expressed  the  discovery  to  their  parents,  they  were  accepted  with  open  arms,  and  quetzal  was  pulled  back  into  the  gut-wrenching  need  to  oblige  to  all  the  things  their  parents  asked  of  them. 

in  2011,  at  the  encouragement  of  their  parents  quetzal  entered  the  fourth  cycle  of  astronomical  boys  and  girls,  a  survival  style  idol  competition  produced  by  kardinal  entertainment.  quetzal  placed  third  and  was  selected  alongside  the  top  five  contestants  to  form  axial,  kardinal  supers'  premier  girl  group.  the  fame  was  still  overwhelming,  but  now  they  had  four  friends  willing  to  live  through  it  with  them.

eleven  years  later,  the  girl  group  remains  one  of  the  most  dominant  forces  in  entertainment  and  public  hero  culture.  their  fanbase  is  massive  and  intensely  loyal,  but  quetzal  has  never  fully  felt  as  if  they're  doing  the  right  thing.  while  they  are  technically  successful  by  every  external  metric,  there  has  always  been  a  quiet  lack  of  fulfillment  beneath  the  surface.  the  work  now  feels  repetitive,  and  the  expectation  of  constant  visibility  feels  more  suffocating  than  anything.

when  kardinal  began  its  pivot  toward  formalized  hero  work,  it  clarified  the  imbalance  they  had  been  living  with  for  years.  hero  work  felt  real  in  a  way  the  idol  life  never  had.  for  the  first  time,  they  felt  a  sense  of  purpose  that  wasn't  purely  aesthetic  or  inherited.  but  axial  cannot  fully  separate  the  two  identities  it  was  built  on.  it  is  still  a  girl  group  first,  and  quetzal,  increasingly  exhausted,  is  beginning  to  realize  that  what  they  want  and  what  they  were  raised  to  do  may  not  be  the  same  thing.

004.  WANTED.

other  kardinal  ent.  folks!  i  would  love  to  see  friends,  yes,  but  i'd  also  love  to  see  other  connections:  rivals,  people  they're  often  collaborating  with  for  pr  reasons,  the  rest  of  the  axial  girls!

a  childhood  friend!  quetzal  grew  up  in  the  spotlight  —  famous  parents,  and  all  that  —  and  was  born  and  raised  in  nkc.  i'd  love  for  them  to  have  at  least  one  person  they've  known  for  a  long  time,  whether  they're  also  from  a  similar  background  or  just  happened  to  be  someone  they  met  during  their  earlier  years.  they  could  have  drifted  after  quetzal  was  thrown  into  work,  or  could  still  be  close  now.

a  mentor  of  sorts!  see,  they're  well  aware  they're  a  musician  and  girl  group  member  before  all  else,  but  kardinal's  pivot  into  hero  work  is  the  best  thing  that's  happened  to  them.  i  could  see  them  seeking  out  another  hero  or  even  vigilante  in  secret  to  see  whether  they  can  immerse  themselves  further  into  that  world.

someone  who  has  no  idea  who  they  are!  this  might  be  the  most  refreshing  person  quetzal's  ever  been  around.  i  love  the  idea  of  them  pretending  to  be  a  normal  person  whenever  they  see  this  particular  individual.  perhaps,  at  this  point,  they've  even  gone  so  far  as  to  try  and  conceal  their  life  of  fame  whenever  they're  with  them.

a  dumb  little  crush!  one-sided  or  otherwise,  and  i  also  think  this  could  be  adorable  when  combined  with  the  above  wc!  quetzal's  terribly  inept  when  it  comes  to  expressing  their  emotions,  so  they'll  be  a  bit  awkward  (endearingly  so)  around  this  person.

a  confidant!  there  are  very  few  people  they  can  open  up  to  about  their  true  feelings  towards  their  career  path.  this  person  is  one  of  them.  their  intentions  can  be  pure,  or  they  can  be  holding  onto  this  information  for  their  own  personal  gain  in  the  long  run.

003.  BIOGRAPHY.

chase  was  born  and  raised  in  the  brox,  nkc,  in  a  working-class  household  that  was  less  than  stable.  despite  growing  up  with  both  parents  around,  the  tumultuous  nature  of  their  relationship  required  him  to  be  a  present  and  guiding  figure  for  his  younger  sister.  he  was  used  to  living  in  small  apartments,  but  there  was  a  constant  pressure  of  making  limited  means  stretch  further  than  they  realistically  could.  chase  developed  an  early  need  to  get  out  of  what  he  saw  as  a  cage,  hoping  to  take  his  sister  with  him  as  he  moved  on  to  greater  things.

at  the  stress  test  he  took  at  age  fourteen,  his  permutated  ability  revealed  itself.  it  was  unstable  in  its  early  stages,  reacting  strongly  to  emotional  volatility  and  stress,  which  was  already  elevated  due  to  escalating  family  conflict  and  his  parents'  deteriorating  relationship.  his  composure  scores  during  early  assessment  testing  were  inconsistent,  and  his  control  over  his  ability  fluctuated  significantly  under  pressure.  due  to  this  instability,  he  was  recommended  for  enrollment  in  valerian's  d.a.r.i.n.g.  program.

while  d.a.r.i.n.g.  reined  him  in  a  little  bit,  his  underlying  temperament  remained  intense  and  competitive.  after  aging  out  of  the  program,  he  pursued  higher  education  on  a  sports  scholarship,  studying  sports  medicine.  by  this  point,  his  family  had  fractured  further,  and  he  became  fully  estranged  from  both  parents  once  he  and  his  sister  were  legally  independent.

by  twenty-two,  chase  had  finished  college  off  strong,  but  found  clinical  work  unsatisfying  and  entirely  limiting.  he  wanted  more  than  to  just  be  kept  behind  the  scenes.  when  attempting  to  enter  hero  work,  he  secured  a  few  minor  opportunities,  but  progress  was  slow  and  heavily  dependent  on  reconnecting  with  former  contacts  from  d.a.r.i.n.g.  —  eventually  resulting  in  an  audition  with  valerian.

at  twenty-four,  chase  officially  signed  with  valerian  and  entered  hero  work  as  bastion,  initially  ranked  c-class.  his  initial  excitement  was  quickly  erased  over  the  next  few  years,  slowly  replaced  by  frustration.  he  felt  underestimated  and  sidelined,  and  felt  particularly  burned  by  the  a-rank  heroes  who  treated  him  like  someone  inconsequential.

over  time,  he  became  increasingly  fixated  on  gaining  recognition.  at  thirty,  after  years  of  proving  control  improvements,  valerian  recommended  him  for  rank  reassessment.  he  was  re-classified  as  b-rank,  and  while  the  rank  was  an  improvement,  it  felt  like  a  harsh  reality  for  chase:  he  was  valuable,  but  still  not  number  one.

still,  valerian  feels  like  where  he's  meant  to  be.  he  enjoys  the  money,  enjoys  the  fame,  enjoys  showing  off.  there's  still  a  lingering  need  to  become  more,  but  he's  willing  to  climb  his  way  up  with  more  subtlety  now.  after  all  .  .  .  there's  an  a-rank  hero  who  needs  his  help  turning  the  hierarchy  on  its  head. 

004.  WANTED.

former  valerian  a-ranks  who  used  to  ignore  him!  back  when  chase  was  stuck  in  c-rank  obscurity,  these  were  the  people  who  didn't  even  bother  learning  his  name.  now  that  he's  climbed  the  ranks  a  little  bit,  he  plays  it  like  none  of  that  ever  happened.  to  anyone  watching,  it  looks  like  he's  seamlessly  integrated  into  their  circle.  but  it's  not  fine;  he  remembers  everything.  this  connection  works  best  if  they  don't  fully  realize  that,  or  if  they  do  and  choose  to  ignore  it  because  he's  useful  now.

someone  who  sees  through  him!  this  is  someone  who  isn't  easily  charmed,  or  at  least  not  fooled.  they  are  at  least  a  little  bit  aware  of  how  he's  more  calculated  than  he  lets  on.  they  could  hate  him  for  it,  or  they  could  just  lack  trust  in  him.  there's  tension  here,  because  chase  knows  they  see  it,  and  that  means  fixing  the  flaw  by  trying  to  win  them  over  just  to  prove  he  can.  whether  they  call  him  out  directly  or  just  quietly  refuse  to  play  along  changes  the  entire  dynamic.

b-ranks  and  c-ranks  he's  "lifting  up"!  on the  surface,  this  looks  like  mentorship  or  friendship. chase  is  visible  around  lower-ranked  heroes,  and  some  of  it  is  genuine  —  he  sees  himself  in  them,  after  all. but he's also  playing  a  longer  game. he  wants  them  to remember  who  gave  them  a  shot  when  no  one  else  would. whether  or  not  they  realize  they're  being  positioned  for  the  wingman  and  strategist's  little  game  is  up  to  you.

a  friendly  rivalry!  someone operating  in  the  same  space  as  him,  where there's  room  for  constant  comparison. they're  competitive  over  everything:  who handled  the  situation  better,  who  got  there  first,  who  made  it  look  better  on  camera. it's  not  outright  hostile,  of  course;  there's  mutual  respect in their  back  and  forth,  even  if  neither  of  them  says  it  plainly.

messy  situationship!  i'd  love  to  see  someone  he  clashes  with  (ideologically  or  professionally,  or  even  just  personality  wise)  but  keeps  getting  pulled  back  toward. i  want moments  of  genuine  vulnerability  immediately  undercut  by  deflection.  i  want  "are  you  flirting  or  starting  a  fight?"s. chase  thrives on a  push  and  pull  dynamic  because  it  keeps  things  fun  and  interesting.  the  question  is  whether  this  person  feeds  into  that  or  eventually  forces  him  to  confront  his  lack  of  maturity.

people  who  went  through d.a.r.i.n.g. with  him!  the  people  who  went  through early  training  with  him would  have  seen  him  at  his  most  unpolished. bonds  here  can  go  a  lot  of  ways:  loyalty,  resentment,  rivalry,  or  that  weird  in-between  where  you  understand  someone  too  well  to  ever  fully  trust  them. these might  be  some  of  the  only  people  who he  trusts  now.
