SAPPHIRES TURN BACK TO THE painting, further analysing the array of colours that seamlessly bleed into one another. the manâs comment is enough to make monika laugh, a bright sound travelling on a single exhale. â suppose, â she replies then, the double syllabled word dragging across her tongue in a casual drawl. itâs his following inquiry that has the blondeâs expression slide into one of evident contemplation. finally, given a moment, the narrow plane of her shoulder rises in delicate insouciance and sheâs flicking a curious gaze towards him. â good question. i sincerely hope the fuck not though, because that would just be sick. i mean, if someone wrapped up their severed ear like some sort of twisted christmas present, would you keep it? â
His head tilted as he considered the question posed to him. Would he keep it? On one hand, it was unsettling and disgusting. On the other hand, it seemed like a very sincere form of flattery. Itâs not like anyone had ever liked him enough to just randomly give him a body part. Not that he wanted someone to, of course. It was really just the thought. Â âI mean, I wouldnât throw it away....â Was that the right answer? He wasnât sure. Honesty was always the best policy, though. âIt wouldnât be on my wish list or anything, but you know, a lot of effort was put into that gift. Plus, it could be a good conversation piece. Like, if I came up to you and was just like, hey, wanna check out the severed human ear in my freezer? I bet youâd be like, yeah, sure, thatâs weird but letâs see it.â

Zoe couldnât help but grin at his words, they were all too true. She didnât come to these sorts of events unless dragged, or unless she knew it was a good image opportunity for herself and her family. And really they could never have enough of those, the publicist mindset always on for the brunette now. He did make a good point, though she was there as a rich person, thinking about how her dress cost more than most people made in a month and sheâd thrown it around like pocket change. âWell what if Iâm here for the art? Iâm assuming because Iâm considered a rich person here, Iâm not an asshole too?â A teasing tone to her voice. âNo youâre right, most people are here for the booze.â
A wise man wouldâve had enough tact to lie or tip toe around the question. However, Sal was far from wise, and his daft brain failed to recognize the potential for danger ahead of him. âThe fact that youâd even suggest youâre here for the art and not the publicity means that yes, you are an asshole.â At that, Sal tipped back his head and downed the last of his drink. âMe, on the other hand, Iâm not here for the booze or the bullshit. I have some honor. Iâm here for the shrimp.â

One thing that people close to Ana know is that she is not a fan of having to wear fancy clothes. If she really had the choice, sheâd show up in an outfit that screamed âhippie computer chick that looks like she smokes weed and actually smokes weedâ and she knew some people wouldnât be surprised if she had. And that was the thing. She knew people wouldnât be surprised if she broke the norms of a fancy situation so that was what motivated her to get all dolled up, to see the looks on peoplesâ faces when she strolled in an elegant gown and accessories to match. Everything was elegant about her outfit except for the fact that when she opened her mouth, smartass comments came flying out.
She couldnât help it though, it was like a natural reaction.
Ana found it funny when she got the pat down before entering the institute, like she couldnât find or fashion a weapon out something in this place; she had plenty of knowledge on how to do so. Without even casting a second glance at the champagne tray, Ana grabbed two glasses down one and placing it on a serverâs passing tray, now nursing the second in her hand. She walked up to the nearest piece of art and cocked her head as she studied it, âI never really got the arts; digital or physical. Never really understood the appeal beyond the fact itâs all pretty to look at.â She shrugged and took a sip from her glass, âI suppose though the art world feels the same towards the sciences and such.â
Sal was in the middle of finishing of his third shrimp cocktail when the woman approached. He was expecting to hear some more talk about how amazing all the art was and how talented and awe inspiring it all felt. Instead, what he got was the exact opposite: a likeminded philistine who just didnât get it. Silently, he praised whoever it was that was watching over him at that very moment. âThank you,â he sighed earnestly. âI wasnât sure if it was just me, or if I was just the only one who wasnât totally full of shit.â

âIs my mind just playing tricks on me again, or is this bitch actually smirking at me? Staring at me like she knows all my dirty little secrets?â she muttered aloud, her dark hazel eyes narrowed suspiciously at the painting before her, feeling oddly unnerved by the all-knowing look on the painted womanâs face as she stared right back at her. The two of them having what seemed like a very intense staring contest, although it was a contest that Diamond would inevitably lose. âI donât like it, itâs fucking creepy.â
Sal stared down the painting, giving himself a moment just to take it all in. Dark eyes evaluated the piece, scanning it from top to bottom before. Finally, after having made up his mind, he turned to his friend. âThat bitch looks like sheâs possessed,â Sal wisely concluded. âI say we get outta here and find that waiter with the shrimp. Iâm not trying to stick around and have some weird, creepy ass painting lady haunt my ass." That was the sort of thing they could leave for the white people.

there used to be a time when zoe really felt like she belonged at these events and she was longing to get back to it. fake it until you make it seemed to be her mantra of the last six months and that night was no different, except that she felt more real and less like she was faking. leaning against the bar she looked around, clearly impressed at what had been put on. âit looks good, donât you think?â asking the person next to her, âthough iâm not sure how an open bar will go around all of these paintings.â
Sal stood quietly against the bar, a whiskey sour in hand and his dark eyes cast to the floor. It was where heâd stood for most of the night, and it was where he intended to stay. After all, this was hardly Salâs scene. He really had no interest in art or the wealthy bastards that enjoyed it. Really, Sal was only there because Diamond said there would be free food and drinks. Plus, he was getting to borrow a suit that he knew he wouldnât be able to afford in his entire lifetime, and that was a real bonus. âZoe, letâs be real. How many of the people here do you think are even here for paintings?â Sal asked, his eyes meeting hers and one dark brow quirked. âOnly rich people and assholes actually like art. Everyone else is just in it for booze and shrimp.âÂ

VIBRANT BLUES DRINK IN THE sight before her, scrutinising every square inch of the canvas that hung on the wall in front of her, silently wondering about the unspoken tragedy that bled into each paint stroke. monika has never been one to stop and take a genuine interest in art but when faced with nothing but art, she did find herself somewhat fascinated by it. a figure glimmers in the corner of her eye and she manages to tear her attention away long enough to throw the other a fleeting glance. â iâve never really understood all the hype around van gogh. not with the likes of monet and da vinci out there. but every time i see this, the one thing i always come back to is that he cut off his own ear. never mind the fact he apparently gave it to a woman afterwards. â at that, sculpted brows knit together in an expression closely resembling stupefaction. â the poor fool. what a waste it is to have talent only for it to consume you to the point you shoot yourself dead. â
He blinked. Once. Twice. Three times. Finally, what she was saying actually registered and Sal recognized that yes, she was in fact talking to him. âI mean, at least it was only his ear,â he replied earnestly. âIâve heard of weirder shit.â Haggard eyes gazed up at the painting, trying desperately to see the beauty and wonder that he ought to see. It didnât quite click for him, though. To Sal, there just wasnât anything there. It was all just meaningless. Pretty, yes, but still meaningless. âDo you think she kept the ear, or nah?â
( david castaneda, thirty, cis male, he/him, Â cousin ) Did anyone else just see SALVADOR âSALâ LEON ? I hear for the LEON family they can be a bit REBELLIOUS & DESTRUCTIVE. But I also heard they can be PASSIONATE & INDEPENDENT. If you dare, I hear they frequent CHITOWN PARK in their spare time when they arenât being an ILLEGAL FIGHTER / PETTY CRIMINAL. Tread carefully or else you might be next on their list !Â
