This post is going to make me sound like a total assole and I preemptively apologize. This is not directed at anyone in particular. Giving music recs to people feels awesome and listening to music recs from people is a miserable experience 85% of the time. I’ll mention a classic song I like and someone will be like “Have you heard The Breadsticks cover of that? It is so good!” and you pull it up and give it a try and it is hot garbage. It is coworker music. It is music you find on a playlist created for a popular YA ship. It is worse than the original by every conceivable metric and you sit back and realize someone thinks this is really good and you don’t want to hurt their feelings so you have no clue how to respond. We all know the phrase ‘you can’t eat at everybody’s house’ but you really cannot listen to everyone’s music recommendations. Especially if it is unprompted. People are just rearing to tell you to listen to some bullshit. And it has nothing to do with how cool the person is, there are some very cool and chill people in this world who unironically listen to Imagine Dragons in their free time. You cannot possibly know if their taste in music is good or horrendous until it is too late and your ears have been subjected to some torment.

The thing is, I’m not really a music snob. The scope of music that I like is not narrow, I like a little bit of everything, from jazz to country to metal to rap to electronica. This is not a genre problem. I’m straight up perplexed by how this person has found music this bad and decided to listen to it regularly.

Thank you for this comment. I’ve had so many conversations with other gen xers about this feeling that we didn’t think we’d live to be adults until the wall came down. I think that if they learn about the Cold War most younger people learn about the 50s “duck and cover” kind of nuclear fear and not the existential dread we had during the Reagan years that we were all going to die at any minute. I also didn’t have any plans for adulthood and basically still don’t despite having tripped and fallen into a career I like. There just wasn’t any point in making future plans.

watching jerma's old stardew valley vids from ten years ago for the first time. this poor guy had like 5 cabbages planted and like 8 string beans on his entire farm. and a meteor hit his farm and obliterated half of his string beans. he attempted to break the meteor with a cherry bomb which only served to destroy 3 of the 4 remaining string beans. he destroyed the remaining string bean in a fit of rage

You could make a vent post about having no friends and it’ll blow up and people will start reblogging it just to say things in the tags like “#this would be me except I’m beloved in the community and every year all my awesome friends who would die for me come together and throw me a big surprise party because they adore me so deeply”
