Thought I'd pop in with an update on my MC Octopod
Fulfilling my promise of having more then just a bubble engine to show over and over ToT
The chisel-bitting is really starting to drive me insane. I already knew I was doomed when this mechanical amalgamation ended up on a diagonal wall... but I think this will do.
I could build it on a diagonal... I'd just have to chisel & bits the whole thing...
No- no, stop it. I already skipped the Gup attachment storage thingie as a break from the bits... just to come here for... more... bits.
In all seriousness I'm getting close to finishing the Launch Bay, it's mostly just stuff that needs to be custom built like this engine here. I mostly wanted to show an update just cause its been a long while since I made an actual post of something from myself and I felt bad.
I'm so excited to show it off (not in a bragging way) especially the workshop. I'm absolutely in love with how it turned out ^^

Went back and remade my Bubble Engine (this was a while ago but I only like yesterday remembered to fly down there & get pictures xd) So many pixels... *shivers*

I haven't made an Octonauts oc since I was like, 12 xd I like how she came out tho. I guess it's nervousness I still feel about sharing her, but everybody else has one so I made one too.
I'm putting her under a cut cause there's a lot of yapping underneath the pic that might take a second to scroll through. Apparently I'm very talkative tonight x/
This is Rava, the Tolype Distincta Moth :> and my horrible handwriting
She lives in a rundown lighthouse on an (undecided) island where she used to guide ships. Now she watches for travelers that never come, keeping up the settlement best she can with the dwindling resources she's got left. Whether it's stubbornness or an unwavering loyalty to the bulb her job, Rava just won't leave.
I got carried away with the process and wrote a fake episode where she's introduced, but I won't put that here. Basically, they pass by the island and are like "bro that old lighthouse looks sick let's go look at it" and they poke around inside until they wake her up and she's like "yo what you doin in my house" and someone's like "oh wow a homeless woman it's ok we come in peace, here have some cookies" and she's like "dude I'm not homeless- omg but these fish biscuits tho I like you guys now." And the Captain's like "another fine addition to my collection" and slaps a watch on it and now she's got a 9 to 5 :)
Rava is nocturnal, so she's more useful as extra hands during moonlit missions she's in the area for, but if called during the day she tries to be awake for it. "Becoming an agent" meant more like she agreed to let them set up some science equipment on the island in exchange for kelp cakes & settlement supplies, as I'm not sure how useful she'd actually be to the crew, but she tries. I think she'd get along most with Kwazii, which works out for Barnacles cause now he's got a babysitter for his lieutenant. When she actually AnSwErS hEr WaTcH girl stop putting it in your bag with literally everything else you pick up you just forget you own it.
Thoughts on her appearance: I picture her mouth hidden until a more expressive moment, if that makes sense? Like a yawn, a gasp, or if she's really emotional. And her eyes- I wanted something different, so I gave her o r b s. The darker centers are her "pupils", and they'll point in the direction she's looking. It can still be hard to tell sometimes. She keeps startling people when they realize she's indeed looking at them. Course I kept them normal in the show version of her I drew.
And uh don't just barge into the lighthouse unless you want a frying pan or something thrown at you, cause you will startle her and she will freak out and just start chucking things. And she's got 4 arms, so that's a lot of chucking.
If I keep going I'm going to end up yapping about her for another 8 paragraphs xd so I'm gonna end this here but yeah. Moth. I doubt I'll ever get brave enough to share the fake episode I wrote of her introduction, but I'm sure I'll be drawing her again, and I'll yap more there. Some closeups below, too, for a better look. I love her eyes, dude.

Edit: Kwazii is fine I promise. I can't tell you yet why the Gup is so broken, but I can assure you there was no pirates harmed in the making of this piece.
I wasn't going to post these since I'm so late, but my other posts are still simmering on the progress procrastination stove... I only managed to finish days 1-3 of the Octo-ber art prompt list made by @thatoctogirl (I'm sorry if this pings you. I can remove it if you want.) the list is here. I got too busy & lost track of time xd
They were still fun practice for tablet drawing; thank you thatoctogirl for the prompts. Maybe, if its ok, I can finish the other days & still post them? Maybe do mini stories instead? Either way, what I do have is under the cut (cause this post is long- and I'm sorry about that.)
Day 1: Reading
"Listen to this! 'Lord Howe's Island stick insects- or tree lobsters- once lived on islands off the coast of Australia!'" "Shiver me whiskers!" "It's amazing, isn't it?? 'Unfortunately, no one has seen a living tree lobster in many years.'" "I see one right now and it's on your head!!"
Day 2: Bandages (I skipped any blood/visible injury in case of squeamish viewers) I uh... also didn't get to finish the background... I also just realized I forgot to roll up his sleeve xd
This prompt made me think of the idea I have that Peso made emergency kits for each Gup just in case of calamities he's not present for. (So like someone can hold the bleeding back until he gets there to fix it up proper, y'know?) Which certain polar bears find very convenient for when they don't want to admit they need help- Captain, are you even doing it right? Someone call Peso...
Day 3: S'mores
I had a hungry vision. I don't actually like s'mores, but I do like s'more flavored things. If I had an Octo-sona (which I kinda want to make one) this would def be their favorite kelp cake.

You can still do the other days, they didn't have to strictly be during October since I know many of us have busy schedules (I for one still go to school) or just don't feel like it sometimes; and that's ok!
What matters is that you have fun, and you can post in either art or or do stories like u said. There's no law saying that they have to be strictly on their month or date. I absolutely love how you drew these btw. Can't wait to see what u do next!
Yes schedules- always clear & ready until you actually decide to do something and then its just an explosion of everything at once ;u; I figured too I wouldn't be the only one, I just wasn't expecting mine to be so bogging.
I will see to it I finish the rest of the days, however slow I might be with them TvT Writing some will help, though. Much easier to write in the car then draw haha
