I just finished watching the long version of Seagull Island.
There’s not much of a plot, is there 😅
Though, who needs a proper plot when you can have Jeremy as a baddie. In speedos. 🥵🥵🥵🥵
Right, I need to talk some more about this because I lay awake last night thinking about Seagull Island. As you do 😂
Lots of spoilers ahead so stop reading now if you haven't seen it yet!
So. The more I think about it, the more questions arise.
Did David wake up one random Tuesday and decide to cosplay as his late son? Did the grief drive him mad? Or the guilt for killing his wife and son?
And what did the need the blind girls for? What's the actual point? He tells Barbara he wants someone to keep his son company. Fair enough but his son is dead and it's just David himself so?????
And why did he want Barbara when he already had her sister? And her sister liked "Frederick" and trusted him and wanted to go away with him. Why bring another girl? Or did he bring Barbara specifically to kill her because she was looking for her sister? But then why not do so right away? Or even simply chuck her over board on the way to the island. At that point he had already killed a few people, what's one more?
The strange underwater prison/hideaway: where die Marianne go to the bathroom there? Don’t tell me she used a bucket and poured the contents into the water "Frederick" swam through? And how did he get food to her without it all getting wet in the water? Not to mention how on earth did he even build the underwater hut!!
Why did that girl at the hospital react to the seagull screams like that? What did David do to her? And why not to Marianne?
Some of these questions might be answered in the series. I watched it on YouTube and the audio was a bit shitty in places. I might have missed some stuff. But still.
I mean, I watched it for Jeremy and he did not disappoint. The speedos scenes. The switch from gentleman to mad man. He’s wonderful as a bad guy. And he looked so good there, a bit tanned and all. You can tell he was in a good place in real life ❤️. The series was filmed in 1981 I believe, when he was happily married and blissfully unaware of the tragic turns in his life ahead.
Also, I really really dig the interior of the house David lives in 😅
So in conclusion: Jeremy hot. Plot AWOL. House pretty. 😂
Ok
I have some answers for some questions tho not all
1. David is torturing himself and made himself believe that women would always choose his son over him because of ONE occasion that would never be repeated
2. He chooses blind women because they could only hear voices and noises so they can't tell that David and Fred are the same person (and they were terrified of the seagull sounds because the seagulls attacked them so due to them being blind, they most likely ran with no consideration as to where they would head, which was why the on in the hospital literally ran off the building)
3. Unfortunately he suffered from a personality disorder, could be that the guilt was too much and traumatized him to the point that he 'becomes' his son
4. I think the horrifying thing is that maybe he wanted a girl for himself and for his son, which if it was the case then 😭 but also bro just wants to be loved, i think he was hoping that the blind girls fall for him instead
5. It is most likely that the Fred persona really sold the "my dad is evil" to Marianne more successfully compared to Barbara who, i gotta hand it to her, has her priorities straight. Plus Barbara spent more time with David than Fred because he was hiding things from her. Marianne went with Fred because she had no idea nor context. Barbara had a mission.
All of this and I'm surprised u kept the more disturbing part off; David's cousin was in love with him. Now that one? 😭😭😭 I legit have no idea why that was even written cause it didn't make sense and her character wasn't even relevant.
Also I didn't like that they immediately knew to view him as a suspect immediately cause why? That's so random? Anyways, the writing was questionable but it wasn't as bad as the packaged 1 hr film version, now that actually was the reason why i searched for the full one instead because even though, as you mentioned, this miniseries lacked a lot of plot, the one hour one had no plot at all.
Im so glad you watched it cause AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH I HAD NO ONE TO TALK ABOUT THIS MOVIE CAUSE IT WAS SO MIND BOGGLING I HAD TO LAUGH
But also he was so hot in there i legit also have no one else to talk about that. Also his villa is so beautiful, i would live there in a heartbeat. Which reminds me, i gotta finish those gifs
THANK YOU @nostalgicemetery!
I'll happily talk to you about seagull island! Under this post, dm, anything!
Now I feel kinda bad for David if he just wanted to be loved 🥺 but also not because kidnapping women is not the way to go 🙈
I guess the cousin being in love with him explains why she helped him. As for why her character even existed, maybe to explain why David didn't re-marry sooner? Because she helped him raise Frederick right? I think given the time (Fred would have been born in the 60s I think) they had to somehow explain who looked after baby Fred because God forbid a man looks after his own child.
Or maybe just to underline how ruthless David was. This woman did everything for him and he killed her.
i know 😭😭😭 like he’s actually a desirable bachelor who’s rich, has an ISLAND in ITALY??? i legit would think that his late wife was mad for leaving him for the son cause wdym????
An island, all you can eat italian meal, perhaps fresh seafood. and in this economy, i wish i can find my own David (sans the whole kidnapping, he could just take me and i’ll follow along, i just want stable housing and good food)
but it looked like David was intensely jealous of his young wife falling in love with his son, which is why it was reflected on his split treatment with the blind women. and also i forgot to add but because he lived with the seagulls, he may have trained it to attack the women. which is terrible.
@teabooksandjeremybrett omg I agree with everything you said, especially "Jeremy hot. Plot AWOL. House pretty" LOLOL and yes he looked fucking delectable in this. It was hard to follow at times and if it were any other actor I would have stopped watching it, but......Jeremy. I am mentally/emotionally/physically required to watch anything with that man in it LOL
