I was wondering, do you take any medication for your OCD and how have you found it? I'm considering going back to the doctor's and discussing possible medication because my OCD's been getting worse recently. Thank you!

To youngOCDanon: Hey, I was diagnosed when I was 8! You're definitely not too young to have it. And I feel so fortunate that I grew up knowing that I have it, because when I started having awful intrusive thoughts I knew that this is just my OCD. Not that you'll have the same problems I do or have it severely in any way, but it's something that's good to be aware of, I think. If you feel safe and comfortable asking for help/an official diagnosis, then don't be embarrassed to do so! Good luck!

I'm pretty sure I have OCD because I show a lot of the symptoms but mostly symmetry, I need to feel, see, hear, and touch everything symmetrically or I get really anxious. I haven't been diagnosed because I feel like they're going to tell me that I don't have OCD and I've been overreacting. I'm only 14 but I've had these symptoms for years and they've been progressively getting worse so do you think I should get checked now or wait till I know for sure I have it?
Hello, love!I actually developed OCD at age 10, so please don't think you're too young.I believe that if you truly feel like you have OCD, then you do. Simple as that. Don't doubt yourself because your feelings are valid and real.Getting diagnosed opens you up to possible medication you could take to help as well as therapy centered around helping those with OCD. Hi! I wanted to see if I could get some feedback from others who may be taking Faverin (fluvoxamine) to treat their OCD. I've been on it for about 3 months now and at first I thought it helped with letting go of some hoarding problems, but in terms of obsessions and compulsions I'm not seeing any changes. :( wondering if I need to increase to 200mg (I'm on 150) like my psychiatrist suggested or just try something else altogether. Any feedback would be appreciated! :)

Hello, love! Many people believe that OCD lies on a line of mild to severe, but it’s just not the case. What I mean by spectrum is that people don’t just have mild or severe OCD. They may have a more severe case of intrusive thoughts with obsessive tendencies on the side, or ritualistic behavior may be the only thing they have. Whatever it is, OCD certainly isn’t a list of symptoms that you have to exhibit in order to have it. OCD contains a wide range of symptoms and whatever combination of them you have sets you on its spectrum.

hi! i just found this blog, it's really helpful thank you! so i am sure i have ocd (it's mostly about left/right and numbers) but i don't know what to do know. should i tell my parents about it? most of the time websites say that it doesn't go away on itself and might become worse. i am afraid that my parents will tell me i'm being silly or that "it's not that bad".

Please try to distract yourself with something happy or something that will keep you busy. I know it’s hard to ignore the urge, but know that you’re strong and awesome, and even if you do lapse, it’s okay. You’re amazing for fighting either way.

Have you ever seen any irrational phobias (for example, of a certain bug) associated with OCD? Or is that something different entirely? I haven't been able to sleep in my own bedroom for weeks because of it, and I feel like this isn't normal.
I’m not entirely sure if your phobia is connected to your OCD. It may be, or it may just be a phobia you have.
Edit: I got a wonderful reply to this ask about how phobias are actually very separate from OCD, but can be exacerbated by it.
In response to the "original form" anon, I looked it up a bit and while there wasn't anything in that phrasing, apparently there is a form of OCD that's called "pure O". Which means that they mostly/only suffer from the obsession element of OCD. Maybe look that up a bit and see if it sounds like something they can relate to? It was on a website called Understanding OCD. I hope this helps at least a little!

I don't know of anybody that suffers with the same type of obsessions as me. I've searched the internet but nothing even talks about it. My therapist identified it so I know it must be a real thing. I was just wondering If you had ever heard of "original form ocd" I feel so alone and I don't know what to do. Am I the only one who feels like this?
