The next Oakland Stock is November 18! Call for Proposals & Diners In these times, we need to show solidarity with fellow artists and activists, supporting them through alternative economies, one bowl of soup at a time. Come eat a lovely meal, meet your community, vote on and support artist projects, and have a swell time. Sunday, November 18th 6pm-8:30pm Humanist Hall, 390 27th St, Oakland, CA 94612 Artist Deadline- Sunday, November 4th, 11:59 pm DINERS: Cost- $15-$25 sliding scale. All profits go to the winning artist. Chefs + Hosts: Lexa Walsh & the Oakland Stock Team Who’s Invited: You are! Soup lovers, artists and those interested in supporting them. Oakland Stock is part of the Sunday Soup network, supporting artists’ projects one bowl of soup at a time. Diners pay a small dinner fee, feast on a gourmet meal, and listen to artists propose new projects that need funding. The diners vote on their favorite project to support and the winning artist takes the money to use for their work. The winner presents their project’s progress at the next meal. Sometimes success in the art world seems pretty random. Oakland Stock offers an opportunity for community members to support the cultural production they find important through Food, Funding, Feedback, & Followup. Oakland Stock is organized by artist/chef Lexa Walsh and and supported by a team of fellow volunteers including Elena Durante, Cate Nelson, Maggie Lawson, Eric Lundy, Phoebe Rossiter, River Black, Zena Mello and many more. A slew of generous in-kind donors help too, like Ratto’s International Market and Deli, Far Leaves Tea, and Acme Bread, among others. Oakland Stock was originally supported with a Southern Exposure Alternative Exposure Award in 2012. PRESENTING ARTISTS: Apply as a LOCAL (Bay Area) ARTIST or PROJECT- It’s easy!: Submit a simple proposal following the directions below to [email protected]. Please include all information except jpgs in a WORD document, NOT a pdf. Please attach the images. The first 6 proposals that meet the requirements will be included in the running. Artist Deadline- Sunday, November 4th, 11:59 pm. These guidelines let us know that you know how to present your project to the public. 1. Name of Project 2. Briefly (100 words max) describe what your project is 3. Briefly (200 words max) describe the cultural, historical, aesthetic, etc. context of your project. Why is this work important here and now? 4. What will you do with the winnings? i.e. “I will buy editing time at the local video lab…”, etc. 5. Write a brief slogan for your project to make it memorable to the audience electorate! 6. 5 images (as individual jpegs, 72 dpi, no larger than 1000 pixels in any direction) Please be prepared to pitch your project with a brief presentation (usually a PowerPoint assembled by Stock staff with your application materials). If funded, you will be responsible for making a presentation to the Oakland Stock community regarding your progress on this project at the next Stock dinner (date TBD). _____________________________________ WANT TO VOLUNTEER? From the tried-and-true format of Oakland Stock, San Francisco Stock is a micro-granting dinner party that supports artists fiscally sponsored by Intersection for the Arts. Diners pay a small dinner fee ($15-25) to enjoy a meal and hear artists pitch their projects. Diners vote on their favorite project and the winning artist receives money raised from dinner tickets. FAQs Is this event open to the public? Yes! The more the merrier. All ages welcome. Can I buy tickets the day of? Yep. Online ticket sales will end Sun April 22 at noon. Walk-ins must pay with cash at the door. How do I get there? Intersection for the Arts is one block south of Powell Street Station. The #14 bus stops directly in front of Intersection on Mission Street. Parking is available across the street at the Fifth & Mission Parking Garage. Will there be booze? Wine and beer will be available to those age 21+. Please do not bring your own alcohol. Who do I contact with questions?
