Cassandra Wells

He absolutely is!!  In fairness to him, I don’t think he knew about Cass’s new circumstances until he arrived alksdjaflkjd which probs made him feel even more awkward hahaha since he (secretly) feels super lame for showing up and asking to crash on his little sister’s couch hahaha  I don’t think he thought anything about the move since that’s just…how the Todorovs are.

So I deF think they have some sort of relationship, but he’s def someone who randomly comes in out of her life bc…that’s who he is as a person!!

Ok, so a little on the Todorov family hahaha  Their parents were 100% hippies and it deF shows in their kids!  They were pr hands off, but v loving, if often a lil annoyed…(did you ever meet Klara’s fam bc…there’s def a touch of that going on…)  Anyway!  The Todorovs were constantly moving!!  And pr wildly like across the country w no warning type moving.  They’re all 100% impulsive hahaha  Just…randomly so there wasn’t so much a sense of home as relationship and both kids turned out equally nomadic as a result.  There was always a lil confusion about things in the home too bc the parents never disciplined the kids and def spoiled them but then also neglected them while often expected things wo warning which…explains a lot about both kids hahaha  Anyway!  Vik often got left w taking care of Ana bc he was the older one which…also an issue bc, as you might have gathered, he’s not exactly a paragon of responsibility hahaha but!!!!! he cares tons!!!!! he felt differently about their parents tho - i mean he loves them but also resents them whereas ana deals oppositely w them - and he rebelled against the parents and picked up and left as soon as he turned 18.  

That being said, he would deF randomly turn up to hang out w Ana!  Sometimes, he’d bring her in to share in his excessive “earnings,” other times he’d pop up bc he’d lost it all and needed something but it was always one of the two: he didn’t turn up when things were just sort of going ~normally, if that makes sense?  When Ana met Cass (and idk - was that as children? adults? somewhere in between?) she also became a part of this cycle.  I do think the contents of their exact relationship does depend on bit on the age she was when they started associating bc, for instance, if she were like 18+ when they met, he’d def hit on her from day one.  If she was just a kid, then she’d be more a part of the family in his eyes, yknow?  I mean…either way he probs flirts w her, now, bc…that’s who he is hahaha but yeahhhhh  

So yeah long story short: he’s a hot mess.  How do you think this might impact Cass’s feelings on him?  I can def furnish a lot more info too <3

Okay, question -- where do you think Cass and Ana met??? I do think that they probably ran in different circles as kids (don’t really see them having met at school since the Wells parents sent their kids off to fancy and expensive boarding schools???) but! I can see them having met when they went to college? maybe they were roommates or something and became bffs instantly??? but can also see them having been friends for a lot longer than that??? not sure how they would have met though??? anyway, i’m up for either idea, honestly. <3

in regards to vik ... since he and ana are on good terms, I feel like cass would like him!!! I think she’d brush off his flirting as harmless and just rolls her eyes. she and ana have been best friends for at least 12 years atp so I feel like she knows him as well as one can know someone like him who drifts in and out of their lives, but she probably considers him to be sort of like family since she 100% considers ana to be. <3 

She looked beautiful today (as she did everyday), with her soft curls mussed by the ocean breeze and her cheeks so rosy, but there was something missing.  Her eyes were not so lit with adventure and love as he’d once seen them.  Instead, there an aura of anger or sadness or both seemed to surround her like a nimbus.  She was beautiful, yes, but her smiles were what he craved and he knew well and good he’d never see one again.  

“Cassie,” he whispered.  

After everything had blown up, he’d gone back to win her again, only to find her missing.  He’d had a speech prepared, then: lovely and flowing and filled with all his he should have said right from the start.  He’d been too afraid to break the spell, early on, and then it was too late.  Fool that he was, he’d convinced himself - perhaps even had wanted to think - that the only person who would be hurt by it all was himself.  The truth was far more complex.  When he’d found her gone, her inescapable message had been clear: I never wish to see your face again.  He’d abided by that.  He’d hurt her enough for a lifetime, after all.  He’d abided by it and burned the letter instead of sending it.  But now, now all those fine words were lost in ash and the only word in his head was her name, round and round and round again like an anthem in his mind.

“Cassie, I can’t believe-” he started again, heard her voice and broke off abruptly.  

The question ached because he knew the answer.  Tom hung his head, feeling like a guilty fool.  “I, uh,” he grimaced.  The answer to that question felt like a blow and Tom ran a hand over his mouth.  “I…I’m vacationing here,” he began.  “I…I’m with some people.”  A long pause.  He wanted to be honest, he’d sworn to himself he’d always be honest from that time onward.  He’d told himself it was the best way to avoid hurting her again, but now…he felt sure the truth would hurt, too.  Best not to prolong it.  He said it quickly, like ripping off a bandaid.  “Including Diana.  We, we were thinking of…”  No, too honest, she didn’t need to know they were here looking for wedding locations.

Her words were a blow but, by the same token, they weren’t exactly shocking, either.  That was how it should be: he should be the one to leave her to herself rather than forcing her to escape him, again.  He felt sure this would be the last thing she would ever ask of him.  He wished he could.  “I…I can’t.  I came with a friend on a boat and…believe me, he’s not going anywhere until he gets his girl back.  Apparently she summers here or something I…I don’t know.”  He shook his head.  Too much information, again.

“Please, I know I must be the very last person you want to see or talk to, right now, but…I feel I owe you an explanation.  Could I, could I just have a few moments to explain?”

It hurt to hear him whisper her name like that ... like he used to; like he cared. She had to stop herself from going to him, seeing him look at her like that. She had to remind herself that it all had been empty words and broken promises. She wanted to tell him to go, but she couldn’t find the words after what he said next ... after he explained what he was doing there. 

“Oh.” She wished she hadn’t asked. If she was being honest with herself, part of her had wanted him to say that he was there for her. Instead, it was just a cruel coincidence that he and Diana had ended up here ... here, at the end of the earth, where she had gone specifically to avoid running into him.

She felt like she was going to be sick.

He kept talking, but she barely heard him. He was just making excuses again ... explaining why he couldn’t leave. As though it was impossible to leave the island by any other way than his friend’s boat. Why was he even bothering? They both knew that he only ever did exactly as he pleased, anyway.

“Explain? What more can you have to say?” She didn’t want to hear it: she didn’t want to hear any of it. He’d tried to explain, when she’d found out, but she only heard him scramble as he tried to say what he thought she wanted to hear. But how could he explain all of it away? He’d been engaged to another woman during the entirety of their relationship and only ever breathed a word of it after she had discovered it for herself.  

I literally just sat down to type out an OOC to you but you BEAT ME TO IT! XD

So I definitely agree that Becca was probably a LOT, especially when they were younger. Re: their parents, I could totally see that they were probably VERY hands off– I know they went to boarding school and probably were shipped off to camp or whatever and maybe saw their parents during holidays (thanks mom and dad XD) so Bex was for SURE over protective.

how much of the story regarding cass and the baby and the baby’s father and whatnot do you think she’s told rebecca? i mean as soon as cass told her that she was pregnant and wanted to move to the island, she was of course like “YES COME HERE NOW WE’VE DONE THIS BEFORE WE CAN DO IT AGAIN!” and immediately started planning out a nursery. but i doubt bex is gonna try to force all the information out of cass if she doesn’t want to give it.

Okay, so I think back when she was dating Tom, that she definitely told Becca about him!!! I feel like Becca probably still checks in on her siblings pretty frequently, haha, and I think Cass was v happy w/ him when they were together and even if she didn’t say something, immediately, Becca would 100%% know that something was going on, haha. 

Anyway, she probably didn’t immediately tell her when they broke up (but again ... I feel like Becca could tell that something was up) and certainly didn’t tell her why. I feel like she probably didn’t even tell Becca she was pregnant until she showed up on Archeos??? (Although, i think she arrived here only days after finding out, herself). 

I don’t think she would have told her immediately why she and Tom had broken up, but I do think Becca knows now and she definitely knows that Tom is the dad.  

Ana clapped happily as she grabbed her purse.  “Yay!” she exclaimed.  “You are so right!  I mean, I didn’t think I’d ever find somewhere I could live forever…but now that I’m here, I think maybe I was wrong.  God, this move was such a great idea!  I mean, you’d always talked about Archeos, but I don’t think I fully realized how awesome it was!” she babbled happily as they strolled towards the door.

Ana’s parents hadn’t been particularly stable in that way: forever picking up and moving and this was a habit both their children had inherited.  Permanence was a concept to them, not a reality, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t something that Ana didn’t think would be nice.  Granted, it also frightened her just a tinge, but that wasn’t something she was going to bring up just now.  Cass needed stability and so did her baby.  It wasn’t something Ana had ever had, but she could imagine it was very comforting in circumstances like these.  But then, Ana had always craved the things she didn’t think she could ever have.

“Ok,” she said as they walked down the charming street.  “You have to tell me how you’ve been settling in!  Got any routines?  Oh, any favorite spots?  What do you do for meals?  I mean, I’ve brought most of our stuff, so the house has been pretty empty.”  

Cass had run off so quickly, there had been time for almost nothing.  Not that that wasn’t something Ana completely understood: she’d done precisely the same sort of thing a thousand times over, but she also knew it was rarely a sign of happiness from personal experience.  “How has it been to see your sisters, again?  Oh!  I have to remember to thank Bex for this job opportunity when I see her again!”

The resort had been kind enough to offer Ana a position working there until such time as she got on her feet and found something more permanent she might want to do.  Of course, the big thing Ana wanted to do was music, but she tacitly understood that that was now on indefinite hiatus.  She doubted very much that Cass was feeling up to any of it, just now, and there was no way in hell Ana was going to put any pressure on her.  Hell, much as she loved it, even Ana wasn’t in the right headspace for it, just now.

“Oh, and how is Lina settling in?”

Cass laughed, “I didn’t really have the words.” The only way to truly understand Archeos was to visit it. It’s more than just a place, Cass thought, it’s a feeling. Cass had told her sisters the other day that it felt so disconnected from the rest of the world being here, like you’d died and found paradise. (”I think that’s just the poor cell reception,” Lina had said.)

“No, thank you, Ana! They really have needed the help for awhile now.” There wasn’t much of an employee pool here, on the island. If they wanted extra help, they’d have to have someone relocate. Luckily, they’d found a more than willing participant in Ana.

“I go for a walk every day - either up by the cliffs or down by the shore.” Sometimes both. Sometimes more than once. It made her feel happy: to walk out with the sun. When she was out in the sun, breathing in the sea air -- she didn’t feel quite so overwhelmed; quite so helpless ... even when she was alone. 

“There’s a small restaurant and bar down on the water, which has great food! And (I suspect) even better cocktails. Mostly, I’ve eaten with Rebecca and Lina or gotten take out if it’s just me. I haven’t cooked here, yet.” She was eager to, once they were settled. The markets was always stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables: 

Hi! I know I texted you already, but here I am again.

Obviously, Andrea is going to be very tender around Cassandra right now. I think we need to figure out how they were with each other before the pregnancy though. I’m a sucker for evolving for relationships, so I think maybe it would be interesting if for whatever reason they didn’t necessarily click before Cassandra’s pregnancy. Not in a way that they hated each other, but maybe they just never saw eye to eye for whatever reason, like Andrea thought Cassandra was too easy going or aloof or something. That would make her sudden realization that she and Cassandra are a lot alike all he more unfffff yaknow. 

Anyways, that aside, how far along is Cassandra? And how long ago do you think/when will Andrea find out? (I’d assumed we were playing that Andrea already knew, but honestly, it might be interesting to write out Cassandra telling Andrew. Just a side note.)

Also, Cass loves Becca so much!!! but I think, especially when they were younger, Becca was v over protective and probably a little controlling and while Cass knew her sister was coming from a good place, I feel like she probably spent more time w/ her own friends vs. trailing around after Andrea/Becca, you know??? (Although, if Becca and Andrea were bffs since they were little kids, there was definitely a time when Cass thought they were both just the most sophisticated/grown up things in the world and probably followed them around a little too much haha but just wanted to be just like them.) 

Anyway, my point is -- I really like the idea of Cass and Andrea having never been close before, but now circumstances have brought them together and Cass definitely sees Andrea in a new light!!! i don’t think she’s ever really thought about all Andrea went through to raise Emily on her own and now she’s just like her hero tbh and she has so!!! many questions!!!! about how to do the single mom thing. 

“Wow,” had been the first words out of Ana when they’d at last arrived in Archeos.  She’d always heard about the trips there from her friend, but she hadn’t been before.  Ana had moved there blindly.  That was ok, though, Ana liked moving around and seeing new sights and it wasn’t like she hadn’t just picked up and moved randomly just…for the heck of it.  And Archeos couldn’t possibly have been any more beautiful.  

Now, she stood on a balcony overlooking the sweeping sea.  “Wow,” she breathed, again, leaning on the porch railings.  “I honestly can’t think of a better place to plant roots!” she exclaimed.  She grinned cheekily.  “Honestly I’m feeling a little jealous of your baby, getting to grow up here.”

Ana bit her lip as she glanced back towards the sea.  She admired Cassandra even more for her choices, lately.  Ana felt confident that her child would grow up happy with an amazing parent like Cassandra, regardless of where they were.  Still, given the circumstances, Ana wasn’t sure just how to approach it without making Cassandra feel sad or scared.  Her approach had always been head-on so she took that tack, now, too, but she wondered if avoiding the subject would be better or worse.

Still, this move was really very hopeful, wasn’t it?  A shift that allowed for freedom while also achieving support, given that all her sisters were already here…it was all as positive as it could be, really, all things considered.  Putting one arm around Cassandra’s shoulders, she kissed her cheek.

She felt like a kid as she impatiently walked from one end of the docks to the other, over and over again until she could see Ana’s boat on the horizon (completely obviously the entire time, to how annoyed the local fishermen were with her inability to stand still for two moments together). 

Cass had been so eager to come here, herself, that she’d run off to the island almost the same minute she’d had the idea. It had felt like she was on the verge of drowning and she needed to escape before she did. She needed a fresh start as much as she needed air. Ana, on the other hand, had been more practical when it had come to moving and Cass had been here on the island nearly a week before she was joined by her friend. 

There had been plenty to do and see since she arrived, but at night, when she went back to the house she’d rented for the two of them (and the baby), that’s when she missed Ana the most. It was was getting harder and harder to stay distracted in those moments: the quiet ones when she was all alone with her thoughts. 

She’d never been happier to see Ana as she had been today. Cass had pulled her into a tight hug and then the two of them had struggled to haul all of Ana’s things back to the house. A quick tour followed, ending with them standing in the best place in the entire house: the balcony. It had been the spectacular views of the ocean that convinced Cass that this was the house they should rent. 

“So am I!” Cass agreed, “It’s so beautiful and peaceful here ... it’s like ... the rest of the world’s melted away and there’s only this left: only this perfect island.” She didn’t think anything bad could happen here. How could it, when the sun was always shining so brightly on those perfect blue waters? 

The island was beautiful at any time of day, but dawn had a special attraction: bright tendrils of light scoring an azure sky.  Tom had gotten up early, that morning, and seen the vision as he pulled back the curtains.  Somehow, he couldn’t quite resist being outside.  Now, two hours later, he was jogging in his swim shorts on the beach, his phone strapped to his arm, his earbuds blasting motivating music as the Aegean lapped sweetly along his ankles.  The morning was cheerful and, though he could not hear the roar of the ocean or the twittering of the birds, their effect was present with him as he moved.  

People always spoke of how alive cities were, but Tom had had enough of cities and this, this was what life really was: kindness and joy mingling into something that was not a physical beauty, but a real beauty.  He knew that now.  It was Cassandra Wells who’d taught him that, whether she’d meant to or not, and it wasn’t a lesson he would ever forget.  He would never forget her, either, though he felt sure, now, he’d seen her for the last time.

The day was brilliant and Tom was pleased to be immersed in it.  Or he was, until he spotted the figure strolling down the beach.  Tom skidded to a stop, his heart skipped a beat, his stomach was a tangle of butterflies.  Suddenly, he regretted what he was doing, what had brought him there.  He’d wanted so much to see her again, but this wasn’t how it was supposed to be.  

He’d thought a lot about seeing Cassandra Wells, again, and he found, now, that perhaps that had been to his detriment.  It always went a certain way.  Where it happened, when, why, always varied: sometimes it was a party, other times it was on the street in New York, perhaps it would be on a trip in Venice…but not here, not like this.  No.  Always, he heard her laugh, first, always drawn by the sound to her.  Always, he was prepared to see her.  Always, he was dressed to meet her too - oh, it didn’t have to be anything fancy, but he always at least had a shirt, for God’s sake!  This felt at once shameless and too exposed, but it couldn’t be avoided now.  She’d seen him.

He stood dumbly, staring at her (that wasn’t how it was supposed to go, either), thinking of the last time he’d seen her.  That hadn’t been how that was supposed to go, either.  He’d wanted to give it all up to be with her, but it all happened so fast, and he’d bungled it all so much…Could she ever forgive him?  He knew she’d never take him back, but maybe, at least, he could make things right between them.  God, I’m an ass, he thought.  He owed her that much, at least.

Her routine since moving to the island had kept her busy from the moment she awake in the morning until her head hit her pillow at night. Rebecca was constantly telling her to slow down, but Cass was determined to explore every inch of the island. It had only been a few days since she’d moved and gotten settled, but already she was in love with Archeos. She wanted to stay here forever. 

It helped that it was paradise, but it could have been anywhere that could offer her a fresh start. The truth was, Cass was running. Her heart had been broken and she wasn’t sure how to fix it. Part of her knew that all of these distractions would only keep her feelings away for so long, while part of her kept trying to convince herself that she really was okay. She had told herself that all she needed was to outrun them until they were there anymore when what she probably really needed just a good cry. 

This morning she was enjoying a walk along the coast: feeling the soft ocean breeze through her hair and the smell of the salt water as the waves gently touched her toes. She loved the ocean. She felt so calm and peaceful in that moment: like she could take on the world. That is, right up until the moment she was suddenly met with a half-naked Tom Compton running up the beach towards her. 

You’ve got to be kidding. 

Repressing her emotions had worked much better when he didn’t randomly show up unexpectedly and Cass wasn’t sure if she keep herself from crying. She wanted to run, but she’d been too surprised; too overwhelmed to do much of anything and, instead, she just stood there like an idiot until he reached her, and it was too late to do anything but face him. 

“Tom? What are you doing here?” She asked, as though it was impossible that he was there, at all. He wasn’t supposed to be there. That had been part of the whole point of moving to this island: she didn’t want to just run into him like this. But here they were, anyway, with him almost, quite literally, running into her.
