Cora Latz and Etta Perkins were a lesbian couple who met in 1972 and were together until Perkins’ death in 1998. In 1973, they held a commitment ceremony; in 1998, they privately renewed their vows with the staff who cared for them at the Jewish Home for the Aged.

Petites Luxures’ “French Fruits” at Hashimoto SF.

Currently on view virtually at Hashimoto Contemporary is artist Petites Luxures’ solo exhibition, “French Fruits.”

Each of Petites Luxures’ works explores sexuality and intimacy, alone and with lovers. The outline of a hip, a stockinged leg, a gesture of a hand - each piece draws the viewer in to imagine the rest of the scene. Often utilizing wordplay, the ink and gouache drawings include French and English quips illuminating the action within the piece.

In addition to the fluid ink drawings, the artist has continued to expand into new mediums while utilizing the same elegant sensibility. New cut paper “theaters” share the similar minimal lines with an added depth to the voyeuristic scenes. Also included, a collaborative embroidery work and a painted replica firearm.

Petites Luxures’ gracefully polished works provide a measure of cheeky levity amidst our current environment, allowing the viewer to revel in moments of closeness, love, lust and sensuality.

With a weighted blankets

And even the plush ones.

Bathroom I can use

Living room I can crash,

Hammock on the grass

Under the sun.

Abundance of blankets

I can cuddle

Or watch a movie or

two on the outside.

Even a puppy

Believe it or not.

holding space

Welcoming me to your place

And giving me permission

To use it on my own.

Took out my shoes.

Walked barefoot.

Undressed from the

Heavy clothing and

Found myself a short

And a top I could

make my own

As long as I want.

Ample of water

Bird chirping

Sweet breeze

And peace.
