This WIP tag catch up is brought to you by a 1 am idea exploding onto an Ellipsus draft (though I would have caught up in well twenty or so tags LOL). I was tagged in three WIP games so there will be three snippets including the 1 am idea that exploded on me.
Bits will be below the cut because one of the snippets is from the TBD title Chapter 14 of Weeping Shadows to Bloody Wings as while it primarily focuses on Astarion's POV, there will be spoiler bits. Oh and there are potentially easter eggs as well, let's see if anyone spots them <3
Weeping Shadows to Bloody Wings Chapter 14 draft (with a mention cameo of @shandoratheexplorer's lovely character Octavian Exeltis wine company because I fully endorse that Astarion is a wine snob and would a thousand percent have excellent wine in his wine cellar <3)
"Good good. Fetch the fourteen seventy Exeltis wine please." I remarked,
"Right away milord." Yorrik spoke humbly, before heading off. I went up and bathed, before emerging in a robe once dry and my curls attended to, finding Yorrik in my study with the wine. He poured my goblet full and I gestured.
"You may leave the bottle Yorrik and retire for the night to your family. I have no need of you til morning." I remarked,
"Yes milord. Have a good night milord." Yorrik spoke humbly, before bowing then leaving. I shifted my robe as I sat down, taking a sip of the wine as I pulled the first stack of letters over. Anything that was courtship letters was immediately tossed into the fire, the rest were Council letters, and other such boring letters.
I sighed as I refilled my goblet, standing up as I moved to the fireplace, watching the last of the letters I had burned twist and burn into naught, but ash. I turned before stopping when I saw the letter on my desk.
My eyes flitting to the balcony door which was still locked then shifting out to the door of my study, looking around the mansion shadows and seeing no one or no thing lurking. I stepped back into my study, closing the door as I turned back to my desk.
I walked over, carefully reaching out and brushing the letter, finding it real and not an illusion, furrowing my brow. I picked it up, finding it high end paper, though the wax was simple. I picked up the letter opener and opened it carefully, checking for powders or anything unusual.
I tugged out the letter carefully, finding nothing of note in it either before unfolding it and finding beautiful calligraphy.
Dear Lord Ancunin
Word has reached the shadowy depths of the vampire world of your feat and whilst many cry for your head, I find myself humbly curious. Whilst Lord Szarr was loud and boisterous in his bragging of such a feat he was to take, naught but graveyard silence has been heard from you, the usurper of his unholy dream.
Yet I do not see you as a usurper, I see you as a victor, chosen by fate themselves, destined to change the very tapestry of night and blood that enshrouds all vampiric denizens.
I know as well that you have felt loss of the heart, of the soul, a rending pain that time does not dull, an ache that cannot be eased, a void that cannot be filled, a crack of an undead heart that cannot be fixed, yet time moves ever on, numb to the pain that drowns.
If you wish to reach out, you only have to leave a letter in this envelope and it will come to me.
Regards,
A curious admirer
At the bottom of it, there was a crest emblazoned into the paper itself. A raven perched above a skull over a framed cross like background with a circle up top holding a shadowy castle, the background was crimson, with silver trim, the raven black as night.
Second snippet fromBroken Melody of Twisted Darkness Chapter 35 draft "Twisting Shadows in Sharps"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Melodia came in smiling with little Isobel in her arms, the child having been a surprise for the pair nearly five years ago now. Ketheric smiled as he stood, walking over as he kissed Melodia.
"Hello my beloved moonlight." Ketheric spoke gently and Melodia smiled.
"Papa!" Isobel spoke fiercely and held her arms out as Ketheric smiled, taking Isobel from Melodia before Melodia began to cough. Ketheric looking at her concerned.
"You should see the healers again my moonlight." Ketheric spoke concerned,
"I'll be fine dear. They said it was just the changing weather, nothing serious to be worried over." Melodia spoke gently and started making amusing faces at Isobel who giggled as she wiggled in her father's arms. I smiled as I watched, hopeful that one day I would find the same joy that Ketheric and Melodia had for each other and their family, a love eternal that would last beyond the ages, be written about perhaps, and mayhap legacy as well.
Third snippet from the Ellipsus fic titled "Undead Hells" where the OC Raven is my most fucked up Durge I've created and needs a lot more than therapy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I felt off the moment that we had stepped foot in the palace where Cazador resided.
Astarion's nightmare.
A monster who had lurked for over two hundred years in the shadows of Baldur's Gate, kidnapping hundreds for food through his slaves, torturing them, but something was off.
I stopped as I leaned on the wall, taking a deep breath as I attempted to ground.
"Are you alright?" Karlach's voice cut through my silence, looking up and nodding.
"Yes. Just…worried." I spoke softly, before Karlach nodded.
"Same. Astarion has good in him, hoping he makes the right choice." Karlach spoke softly,
"Yeah." I spoke softly, though I could understand the temptation, knowing exactly what I had once rejected, once denied, the tempestuous whispers in my fractured mind and soul.
I took a deep breath once more, before continuing on, finding we had split into groups. Eventually we converged at a study, Astarion, Shadowheart, and Jaheira looking rough.
"You three alright?" Gale asked,
"Ran into Godey, got the key." Astarion spoke tensely, before going inside the study as we followed. I was starting to feel even more ill, my arm beginning to burn as the wards against those who would oppress me, use me, abuse me began to struggle against whatever else I was feeling.
We descended into the depths and I soon understood why I was struggling.
Vampire spawn.
Hundreds if not thousands, in gilded cages of shadowy deception.
Fuck.
I heard Astarion converse with a man named Sebastian, the group soon moving forward, slowly following, each step agony.
We reached a huge central area, lit with the Infernal glow. Astarion yelling at Cazador, his attempt to punch him, then chaos erupted as Astarion flew through the air.
The surge of magic nearly sending me to my knees as ghouls and wraiths sprung from the darkness, werewolves surging like a tidal wave from the edges, and Cazador in the middle beginning to speak the rite.
I took the chance, knowing it would only buy enough time for Gale to get to Astarion to free him, drawing my bow, an arrow at my fingertips.
"GALE! TO ASTARION!" I screamed, as Gale whirled, before he spun with a Thunderwave tearing from his fingertips then sprinting across the unholy floor as an arrow cut through the air, sending Cazador to the ground.
I barely saw that before werewolves were on me, retaliation for catching their master off guard. My bow skittering off somewhere, yelling in agony as the burn in my arm became sheer agony as jaws crushed my arm, barely getting my dagger out as I stabbed wildly.
I managed to gain my footing, facing down ghouls and more werewolves, their numbers swelling, briefly seeing Cazador aglow with his hellish necromantic magic, glaring at me, his neck drenched in blood, yet unmarred.
My arrow only inducing rage as well as giving time. I staggered back as a wraith got lucky, their claws slicing through to my belly, cutting back with my dagger.
Yet as more gained luck, sending me to my knees, all slowed down as my eyes drifted over the unholy hells we were in.
Jaheira and Shadowheart bloody, Jaheira's schimitars drenched in black ichor and hellish red blood, Shadowheart cradling her shoulder as she traded Blood of Lathander for a secondary sword.
Gale and Astarion besieged, Gale's magic beginning to show faded colors, faded elegance, his limits rearing against a shadowy tide.
Karlach falling with her axe head all that was between her and a werewolf going for her throat, its claws digging through her armor, flashes of hellfire laced blood with howls of the unlucky seared by her Infernal collar.

Will Rolim instantly talk to the woman he thinks is his mother or not? That's it, that's the chapter.
"Did you—" I start, clearing my throat, my voice sounds too small, too hoarse to speak properly, "did you get their names?"
Astarion understands what I really need to know: the name of the woman I think is my mother.
"Elasha," he answers. "The younger woman is Elora, the younger man Vesryn, and the older human Lachlan. All with the same last name. Runno."
"A family then," I mutter, my heart sinking. I still don't know what happened, how it all fits together, and why my mother started a new family, apparently far away from here. There was no way she could've recognized me during the meeting, brief as it was.
We lost her when we were ten years old, and since then, I've found my true self and changed a lot.
If she recognizes either one of us, it'll be Vincent.
"She looked… happy… right? Content?" I continue to ask.
"Darling," Astarion answers, "there's really no way to tell, with the short glimpse I got of her."
"But she has a family now, I mean… again," I frown. "What if—"
"Let me stop you right there," Astarion says, stopping for a moment and coming around. He crouches in front of me, gently placing both hands on my shoulders. "You're getting lost in what-if scenarios again, and I know what you were going to say. 'What if she's happy now and meeting me again is only going to make her remember stuff she'd rather forget,'" he perfectly imitates my soft tone, drawing a small chuckle from me.
"I know I can't force you, and that the decision on whether or not to approach her lies between you and Vincent," he continues, "but don't forget that she also has the right to choose, and if she does remember you and wants that closure, you'll have to decide whether or not to give or deny her that."
I got tagged back by @tynithia so I'll share a snippet of my current fic focus (it's been bouncing round 5 fics at this moment and it is driving me insane LOL). This is from the Ellipsus fic "Worlds Intertwined" and is my first stab at Barcus joining my stories so please be mindful of that if it isn't on par with Barcus.
And yes Karlach ends up in a lot of life threatening pickles in my stories, the brain cells dig the angst LOL
"Just…worried you know?" I spoke softly,
"Karlach is going to survive. She survived Zariel's nightmares for ten years, survived three crazed Avatars of mad gods, and a gods damn alien brain from another realm." Dammon spoke firmly, before I nodded. Jaheira and Shadowheart came in with two new people, a man and a woman. The man had deep brown hair, a strange tattoo on his chest, and deep brown eyes, whilst the woman had moonlight white hair, a circlet, and cleric robes denoting Selune.
"Mercy, this is Gale and Isobel, friends we made during the Absolute Crisis. Gale and Isobel this is Dammon's sister Mercy." Jaheira introduced,
"Shadowheart told us you struck out on the forge, so we are here to help in whatever way we can." Isobel spoke quietly,
"It is appreciated though without the forge…" I trailed off, feeling my eyes burn as I clenched my fists.
"Well how do we make a forge then? One that is capable of it?" Gale asked,
"That would take months, even with the amount of Tieflings we have here willing to help. Not to mention the parts it would take, parts we don't have nor have access to. Karlach doesn't have that kind of time. She has four gears left." I replied,
"Well then we better figure out a solution shouldn't we?" a gruff voice spoke, before Barcus came in, carrying a heavy bag with scrolls and bits sticking out of it. Dammon stood up.
"Barcus. I didn't expect you to show up, thought you were busy." Dammon spoke surprised, as Barcus chuckled.
"Well we finished our last job so I sent everyone to take a vacation if they wished then overheard your friends here talking to the wizard and the moon cleric and offered to come with." Barcus remarked, before he set his bag down and Dammon smiled.
"Well it won't do much good. No forge and limited time." I spoke softly, before Barcus chuckled.
"That is where you are wrong young lady. I heard you say four gears remain correct?" Barcus asked,
"Yes. Once those go, Karlach will die." I replied, before Barcus went digging into his pack, pulling out a set of inferior iron gears.
"What do you say we snatch back some time then hmmm?" Barcus remarked, before Dammon hauled him into a bear hug.
"I owe you a jug of mead Barcus!" Dammon crowed, before Barcus grumbled.
"I'm a grown gnome Dammon not a child. Please put me down." Barcus grumbled, before Dammon put him down.
"Worlds Intertwined" is an AU esque inspired fic where the main OC has been separated from his beloved Karlach and has landed in another realm entirely. Meanwhile Karlach and Wyll have landed in Avernus and are fighting to get her home and find the main OC's whereabouts.
Currently on Ellipsus but will one day make it to AO3.

we all know that astarion has the curse of being the evil-aligned/anti-hero archetype and the fandom treating him like some delicate innocent. that’s just something that happens in fandom spaces. it’s been happening for years. there’s nothing we can do. yes i know i get it.
but what really gets under my skin more than the deliberate mischaracterization of such an intricate and cool character is the fact that sometimes the community literally sacrifices his sense of humor. which astounds me because his sense of humor is what initially made players invested in who he was as a character!
he always has something funny to say— even if it’s only funny to him. he laughs at his own jokes and he gets defensive and butthurt if you make jokes at his expense. he is a hypocrite. he is hilarious.
less of him being like this tradhusband/untouchable figurehead of goodness and more of him being flawed and funny. cancel me idgaf i love canon astarion.
Storms, Black Velvet and Bloodied Lace Chapter 3: I sat in the lounge tracing a goblet of wine lightly with one finger. Wyll sat nearby and he looked as bored and irritated as I did. Lord Syllar Shedanoran was opposite of me at the table we all sat at. If one looked up slime in a dictionary, they'd find a portrait of Syllar.
Foggy Shadows Chapter 22 Karlach POV, Astarion sassy sarcasm: "Minauros is a great putrid bog of rot, pollution, and...dead bodies. It oft rains, sleets, or hails with hail the size of my fist, sometimes bigger. Shelter is available, but often occupied." I remarked thoughtfully,
"Oh that sounds absolutely lovely." Astarion groaned sarcastically and I chuckled.
I'm currently working on the next chapter of A Song of Dawn and Silver.
Theme Song:
For someone who is a public hero of Baldur's Gate, Rolim is terribly hard to get a hold of. But I suppose the city being as big as it is makes it harder for me to find him.
Asking around, I'm told he could be at any one of his three—why is it three?!—workplaces, or, of course, at home.
Since I don't want to disturb him at home, I swing by the bard school and the little leather workshop first, before making my way to the monastery.
It's relatively new, I'm told, with construction finishing only about a year ago, and it's there that I finally get lucky.
"Oh, yes!" the monk sweeping the entrance hall answers my inquiry. "Dawnmaster Nevioro-Shyr is in the library, I believe he needed a moment of peace after this morning's wave of patients," he nods. "It's right through here," he gestures toward one of the tall doors on the left.
"Thank you," I smile, pulling the strap of my snapsack tighter and marching toward the door. But… just shy of touching the handle, I pause, feeling a shiver run up my spine.
I'm… nervous? But why?
It's not like I know this guy, but still, it feels infinitely more monumental since his was the last voice to tell me I needed to stop drinking before I truly tried, and finally managed. He was the last piece of a puzzle long in the making, so to speak. And he's this big hero, this holy man who works his ass off to help people. I've honestly heard nothing but good things about him while I asked around.
Everyone smiled at the mere mention of his name.
My spiraling thoughts don't help with making this next step either. I know I'm only here to thank and apologize to him, but I feel truly very insignificant compared to him.
"Yes, right on through there," the monk's voice snaps me out, and I briefly flash him a smile, then draw a deep breath and push the door open.
So the month of May was pretty busy, chaotic, and a mess with a side of loss. I put my four legged baby boy down on the 19th so I really appreciated the tags I had in my activity log a lot even if I couldn't respond until now to them <3 Upside aside from a few boxes, the majority of things have been unpacked and I am settling into my new place with my gran.
I have been very busy in the last week or so with writing as well with my brain running amok in Ellipsus though soon I'll be editing some pre drafted chapters soon and releasing them <3
Without further ado though here's a sneak peek at what's to come and some of the WIP bits I've been working on including an AU sort of what if fic where the main character ends up in a bit of a mess. Fair warning there is minor spoilers here so will put it under a keep reading line <3
Sneak peek from Chapter 4 of Dream On or How to Get Your Heartstrings Punk'd titled "No One Like You"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Karlach sighed as she headed to the headquarters, hoping a bit of work would maybe get her mind off Astarion. However after a few hours, Karlach ended up dipping out with an apology to Jaheira before wandering around Baldur's Gate and ending up in a park with a pond full of ducks.
A large hulking Elf sat under a tree with a pair of glasses, a deep forest green sweater vest with a button up that was cream, dark brown khakis, and boots that looked more one with nature than boot. The Elf himself had deep brown hair tied back into a ponytail and his eyes were hazel green in a beautiful heterochromic way.
The book in his hand had a worn look like it spent a lot of time being read with the title being A Study of Ornithology: Ducks Native to the Sword Coast in faded gold filigree, the book cover itself being a deeper shade of green than the sweater vest. Nearby a bag that looked as worn as the book if not more so rested with a large oak leaf adorned in worn embroidery and a circle of knotwork around it.
Morren's eyes fluttered, before he slumped fully, making me swear. I didn't have much left, but started drawing on my magic, pain ripping through my hand near immediately.
What are you doing child?
I gritted my teeth. I had a debt of life to pay, I wasn't going to return owing anyone. I was a cleric of Shar, we owed no one, especially a Selunite.
"Find healing potions. I'm nearly spent." I spoke tensely, before I focused my magics over Morren. Astarion and Wyll ran off to hunt as Karlach kept an eye out around us. I put the last out and Astarion and Wyll came hustling back in with a large Elven male and a few bottles.
"Here." Astarion spoke quickly, before I carefully shifted Morren to his back, the Elven male coming over and helping support him enough to allow me to get the potions down his throat. I snapped and yanked the arrows out that Morren had taken as his breathing stabilized.
I walked through the city silently, the cool spring air with a small nip to it as my mind replayed the conversation I had had with Aylin a tenday ago.
"I still think reaching out to Mystra won't do any good. You know what she did to Gale," Aylin remarked,
"I know Aylin, but if my siblings and Syllar know about Eladrin, then there's no assurance that Gale doesn't. I can no longer stand idly by while the world potentially burns outside," I spoke softly,
"And what if this backfires? What if Mystra doesn't answer? After all you hold the Weave yet you do not worship her," Aylin asked,
"Then I'll find another solution, as I have before time and again and will continue to do so Aylin," I replied, Aylin falling silent.
Third and final WIP from the yet to be posted to AO3 fic titled "Worlds Intertwined" where the main character ends up in a bit of a pickle of the AU variety after something happens and they end up in an entirely different place that isn't Faerûn. The historical research for this has been absolutely killing my brain LOL
"Easy laddie. You want to throw up there's a spot over there." a man spoke gruffly, before pointing. I took a deep breath as I looked around, seeing the chaos and ruined landscape around me.
"Private! Over here!" another voice called, before I turned to see a lieutenant with a red cross on his uniform waving. I walked over and he put his hand on my chest.
"You want to die today private?" the lieutenant asked,
"Uh no sir." I replied,
"Then get your helmet on private!" the lieutenant snapped, before I tugged it off my belt and donned it as the lieutenant started walking off. I quickly followed him as others caught up, reaching a trench that reeked of…everything, shaking my head and continuing on. We reached another man this one a captain.
"Name?" the captain asked,
"Private Tavin sir." I replied, before he looked down his list.
"You'll be in the advanced dressing station on the central sector near Pozières, supporting the forces there." the captain instructed, before pointing. I nodded before walking off, pausing when I heard loud noises, jumping when something exploded hard.
"Easy lad. Just the Germans saying good morning." a thick accent remarked, before I turned to see a man with a black circle patch with 4th and the mark for an artillery unit. I swallowed hard as I nodded.
"Right." I spoke softly, before he beckoned.
"Come on. I'll show you to the ADS." the man spoke quietly, before I nodded and followed. We reached a place that smelled even worse than the prior trench, noting some bunkers and reinforced areas. The man pointed at another captain with a patch noting he was a doctor.
Yeah it's Thursday but I'm trying to keep on top of my tags best I can with a health flare trying to wrestle in on top of all else I'm dealing with right now. Thank you @optimisticgrey and @the-font-bandit for the tags here is a yet to be named chapter of the fic Weeping Shadows to Bloody Wings that's coming tomorrow and debuting @shandoratheexplorer's handsome fellow Rashaan as well as a teacher.
Lightfoot has zero idea what she's in for LOL
In process of making edits, but the snippet is below the cut for those who don't want spoilers.
No pressure tags for @shandoratheexplorer @strixamans @tynithia @alrendriablaze and @andromedaancunin
I made my way towards the sparring area I had seen earlier before stopping and turning.
"I warned you last night Drow, and I'm saying it again, do not try anything." I spoke irritably and the Drow emerged from the shadows.
"Actually I was wondering if you'd be interested in a sparring session? I've never met anyone who could hide from a powerful vampire lord let alone find me in the shadows." the Drow remarked, and I crossed my arms.
"You're pretty obvious." I spoke quietly, and the Drow tilted his head.
"Do you not know who I am?" the Drow asked,
"Should I?" I asked and could feel my irritation rising further. The Drow smiled.
"I'm Rashaan." the Drow introduced himself and I was quiet a moment.
"Lightfoot." I spoke quietly and started for the sparring arena.
"Rogue sparring area is over here." Rashaan spoke and pointed. I turned and followed him, but was watching him like a hawk in case he tried anything. We reached an arena with adjustable mage lights and it was silent and empty. I put my hands on my daggers as I tensed.
"I don't have anything on me worth your blood." I warned,
"Will you relax? The Rogues squad is out on patrol." Rashaan growled and I narrowed my eyes, but only slightly relaxed.
"First blood?" I asked, and Rashaan nodded, dulling the lights enough that the center was lit enough to see each other, but the outside was pure shadow.
"Yes." Rashaan replied and I smiled before shifting back, as the shadows wrapped around me. Rashaan's face changed to a look of surprise before he too disappeared into the shadows, silence falling and I crouched down as I slowed my heart rate down.
Listening until I picked up the soft whisper of a breath, the faint steady thrum of a heart, lunging and tackling Rashaan into the light, before disappearing into the shadows as he leaped to his feet and looked around for me. Muttering in a foreign language of some kind before he returned to the shadows.
I picked him up once more, but this time when we landed in the light, Rashaan grabbed me and rolled me, the hunt turning into fisticuffs and brawling.
"Your talent is impressive, but your skills in actual fighting lack." Rashaan grunted and got me in a hold, making me grunt, but I planted my feet, grabbing his arm and tossing him over my shoulder. Rashaan rolled before getting up and drawing daggers, drawing my own as I pulled the shadows to me, noting Rashaan doing the same as we engaged each other.
The shadows weaving and flowing around us, yet fighting as they could not decide whether to obey Rashaan or me, our blades clanging through the arena, Rashaan soon knocking one of my daggers out of my hand as we ended up on the ground with one of his daggers at my throat.
"I win." Rashaan panted, and I shook my head.
"Draw." I panted, Rashaan glancing down and seeing my other dagger pressed against his ribs, his eyes flicking back up to mine, curiosity and interest in his striking gold eyes. Rashaan shifted away, standing up and offering a hand.
"You have talent, but no actual skill." Rashaan remarked and I grabbed his hand standing up.
"You said that already. I didn't have a teacher. I observed fighters from afar." I spoke quietly and walked over to where my other dagger had landed, sheathing both.
"Well I hold classes thrice a tenday if you'd like to join and learn more. Third, sixth, and ninth days." Rashaan spoke quietly before leaving. I stayed there for a little bit before heading back to Dal's to bathe before I headed to the inn for a meal. My mind swirling with questions and curiosity. I had never had a proper teacher and while I wasn't sure how Rashaan taught, it probably wouldn't hurt to learn from someone who clearly had the experience in comparison to my own.
