Nurse McCall

AS ordinary as the spa day was and so far from her old life habits, Corinne was looking forward to it. A day or relaxation and recharge might help set things back in focus for her. “Then I’ll be your nurse and insist you go.”

"Then I guess sign me up.” Melissa chuckled. She grabbed a notepad out of her bag, scribbling down her number and passing it over. “Let me know when?”

He could always count on Melissa, even if it came with a bit of a threat on the side…but Stiles couldn’t do anything but grin at the woman. Making quick work out of climbing into the passenger side beside her. He couldn’t quite explain it - the way he was filled with nothing but comfort in the small space between them - but he supposed it had something to do with how intertwined she was in every part of his life since he met Scott. How she had become something of a mother to him since his own mom had passed away. She was the only other person in the world he trusted more than his own father. Besides Scott - obviously. 

“He wouldn’t mind it,” Stiles agreed, reaching to put the heater on without asking, “But he would definitely try and have ‘that talk’ with me, again. And I love the guy, but I have no interest in trying to explain to him the sentimental, and monetary, value that the Jeep is going to have when I’m… you know! Eighty, and the thing is still chugging along. So. Here I am.”  

Melissa sighed - she agreed with Noah, that the thing was a death trap, but she also knew it was an argument that she wasn’t going to win with Stiles. “You could store it somewhere until you’e eighty? Work on it in your free time to keep it running? I’m not going to have that talk, but it’s things to consider.” She pointed out, starting the engine. “Did you wanna grab a bite to eat before I drop you home? My treat.”

“You know I really wish you would let me spoil you from time to time, is the least I can do.” When his father had left she had taken the role of both parental figures, teaching him how to ride a bike while also being there to heal his wound when he fell off the first time. Supporting him in the games whether he was benched or out in the field playing. She had done so much for him over the years and he wanted to repay her in any way he can even as something simple as paying for a meal. “How about we just take turns? Is been going good, but…nevermind.” Maybe it was best to keep the conversation light and not bring up the crazy things that have been happening lately. 

“I spoil myself plenty! You know I bought myself the luxury coffee last week and not just the plain old store brand?” She teased. She heard the ‘but’ at the end of his sentence and she frowned at it. She didn’t understand a lot of the supernatural stuff, but she knew enough to want to help where she could. She’d helped Liam keep things afloat with any creatures that came through town, but it’d been relatively calm. “But what? Is something going on again?”

“Melissa. You’re just the person I wanted to see, actually. It’s nothing medical, obviously. Thanks to my healing factor I don’t think I’ll ever have a medical emergency again, thank god!” Erica gave one of her old nurses a smile. “I was just wondering where Scott’s at, lately. I think I owe him and his friends a visit; now that I’m.. no longer dead.”

“Erica....” She stared, stunned at seeing the girl. She couldn’t even be mistaken that this was someone with an uncanny resemblance as she asked for Scott by name, and spoke of healing. Melissa held her arms softly as she looked her up and down.

“There isn’t even a scratch on you....” She murmured, confused. “What happened? How are you... you?”

KNOWING who Melissa and her son was made it certain that Corrine was treading beyond careful. Despite wanting to establish something jsut for information, the McCall matriarch was pleasant and easily liked. “Well, I do know there is really good spa in the next town if you wanted we could go? I think after that shift we might need it.”

“I suppose since Scott’s being able to help out with the bills and groceries, I can afford a little bit of me time, sure.” She nodded. “I’m not all that great with the self-case stuff I tell all my patients to do.”

Marie-Jeanne just nodded her head rather desperately, following along after the woman as best as she could through the pain that doubled over her frame. The stark white lights of the hospital making Marie-Jeanne wince just the slightest bit as her pupil’s tried to adjust to the sort of brightness she had never been exposed to before. She just kept her eyes squinting as she moved forward through the hallways; hands pressed tightly against the wound that had opened earlier that night.  Marie was going to answer the woman, the explanation ready on her lips, when the sight of the elevator made her stop in her tracks. Looking toward the women with great concern as she tried to make sense of the great metal structure that loomed before her. “I am bleeding out, and you want me to get in this box? What is this… thing?” 

Melissa frowned at the woman’s confusion over the elevator. She pushed the call button, and turned to look at her. “Sweetheart, you’re not exactly an official patient here, so I can’t treat you in the emergency room. Plus, looking the way you do... it’s better we fix you up on one of the lower floors. The rooms aren’t used all that often, so there’ll be less questions asked.” She explained. “This isn’t a metal box, it’s an elevator... Did you hit your head when you got injured as well?” She frowned again, sure this had to be some concussion. “How about you tell me your name?”

her shoulders dropped slightly. “okay.” she said softly. stellaluna turned back to the patient and stared at her before starting to slowly walk towards her. the slight beeping of the machine almost stung her ears with every sound it made. luna could’ve sworn the beeping was getting louder and louder. she reached out to grab the girls hand and almost gasped at the sensation that attacked her fingertips. she closed her eyes and listened to the soft spoken words that had invaded her mind. “i’m so sorry.” she said quietly. her eyes snapped open and took in a breath. “i’m done…” she didn’t want to be here when it got worse, when she couldn’t control herself. luna took her hand off of women’s’ and began to walk towards the door. ”thanks for helping me find her…” 

She heard the gasp, and moved towards the girl, but as quickly as it happened, it was over, and Melissa hurried over to the panicked girl, taking her hand. “Tell me what’s going on, sweetheart. Maybe I can help. I’ve seen a lot of things that I don’t understand, so don’t think you can shock me.”

         he thought differently, but would probably not be a good idea to continue to argue about it ❝ no, not at all. i just helped an alpha with his pack, with new werewolves & it became a little difficult. i ended up in a fight with one of them, but left before things got worse ❞ it was a little lie, but he did not want to worry her. the whole truth about it didn’t have to come out, even though it was an accident & it was not only his fault. accidents could happen & if people were not careful bad things happened. he looked away from melissa ❝ but i don’t think it’s safe for me to return, maybe not in the area of france there they were ❞ he continued, now looking at her as a small chuckle escaped his throat ❝ that’s great. i didn’t know he had left the town, but i haven’t had much contact with anyone. i hope i find him soon then. anyway, how have you been? ❞

“I’m sure whatever you did, you can fix it.” Melissa nodded, smiling softly. She didn’t want to push him for details, remembering that as much as it felt like it back when he was living in her house, he wasn’t her son. “Well, if you don’t end up returning, then know I’m really pleased to see you back home. I’ve been fine though - work as usual. Got a promotion, and the headache that goes along with it.”

“thank you.” was all she said. luna was right at her side when they began walking, she almost felt some kind of relief knowing that she was soon going to see the patient. she stepped into the room and turned to look at melissa. “c-can i have a minute?” she wasn’t sure what was going to happen and didn’t want anyone seeing her doing anything that seemed out of the ordinary or suspicious. stellaluna was scared, but she knew that this was something she had to do. maybe this visit would make sense of everything she’d been feeling. 

“Afraid not, sweetheart. But whatever you need to say to her, I’m not going to judge you.” Melissa nodded, smiling softly. After all, even if the other didn’t know, she’d seen much worse in her lifetime. Still, she stayed close to the door. “I can pretend I’m not listening if that’d make you feel better?”

luna sighed and ran a hand through her hair. this women didn’t get it, no one would. luna didn’t know how she knew the patient’s life was in danger, she just did, and she was usually right about these things. she felt tears brewing in her eyes, threatening to spill over, she blinked them back. she needed to think of something, fast. but fast thinking wasn’t usually her strong suit. “i- i know her. she’s a friend. i need to see her, before-.” she cut herself off and wiped at one of the tears that had streamed down her cheek. “i just need to tell her something, that’s all.” she said in a quieter voice.

Melissa frowned, but nodded - she should get more proof, but she was going to be in the room as well, she didn’t see a problem with it. “Okay, well let’s get into your friends room, then.” She nodded, moving down the hallway. Once they reached the room she stepped in, letting the other see. The person in the bed was unconscious, but Melissa still stayed put.

MENTIONING the shooting range made Corrine realize it had been forever since she had actually been to one or held a gun. The town and the situation was making her more mundane than she wanted. “I think a good lunch catch up would be just as fun. Or a spa day if we had the time but with the hospital, it would be a miracle.”

“Are you kidding? A spa day would be heaven.” Melissa chuckled, nodding to herself. “If you want to do that, then I definitely wouldn’t mind tagging along.”

“I can’t sleep, I keep seeing lights and hearing that truck…” He swallowed, looking away as his heartbeat quickened. Licking his lips he looked back over at her, shaking his head.

 "I keep seeing her, the one who hunted me. Sometimes I feel like I can’t breathe, like the poinsons still clogging my lungs.“ He whispered, closing his eyes. "I don’t want to feel like this, but I don’t know how to make it stop.” He admitted softly. 

“I should be dead, but I’m not and I don’t understand it.”

“... It’s called PTSD. You’ve been through something traumatic, and your brain can’t let it go.” Melissa frowned, leading him to a bed, and letting him sit on it. He looked fine, physically, which was... something considering the things he’d been through.

“Trust me, I don’t understand it either, but I’ve learnt that most things in this town don’t make sense.” She forced a small, sad smile. “Have you spoken to Scott?”

Brett’s still pretty skittish for the most part, avoiding stranger’s he doesn’t know or anyone who looks like they’d be a hunter. He know’s he’s more than likely being more than just a bit neurotic but he can’t help it.

Every time he closes his eyes to go to sleep he can see those headlights, the sound of an engine revving just before he’s being run down by the truck belonging to a hunter.

He find’s Melissa just where he expected to, leaving the hospital after work. He keeps his head ducked down, hood covering his face until he hears her question.

“It’s a little bit of both actually..“ He whispered, looking up with fear in his eyes.

Melissa took in the sight of the person in front of her, looking him up and down and nodded, putting a hand on his back and leading him through a staff entrance in the parking lot. She knew his face - had been working the night he’d been brought in, he and his sister announced dead on arrival. It’d been chilling, seeing the disgust on some of the staff’s faces, knowing what they were thanks to the fear that Gerard and the Anuk-ite had planted in them. “What do you need?” She asked softly, looking at him with concern.

A noise of interest came from her as she nodded in agreement for some reason with the other woman. It was true, technically, that her last visit was short-lived. “Must have been something serious for his daughter and him for it to be short-lived. Don’t hate me,” she said thinking about what she liked to do, “but I’m a bit of a fitness nut. On the rare time I have a day off I’m hiking through the woods and I have been to a shooting range once or twice. How about you?”

“Well you definitely won’t find me working out or going to a shooting range... I’m much happier just catching up over lunch, or something dull like that. Between work and my son, I’ve never really had much time to relax.” She shrugged - even in the last few years if she wasn’t working, she was making sure there wasn’t any supernatural activity she had to monitor.
