I did a thing today!!!! The appointment was spur of the moment but the tats weren’t! Shot out to my bestie @bina_pooky for coming with me!!! I had to squeeze her a bit for the sensitive parts! https://www.instagram.com/p/CL96zx_BOJp/?igshid=yk90nosnyuj

I missed a lot of posts for Black History month (because of studying for school and focusing on that!) but today is Day 28: The last day!!! And I wanted to share something! @tanehisipcoates is an amazing author, storyteller, and voice for the Black community. His words, understandings, and imparting of knowledge to society has really helped guide the conversation and understanding of Black experiences. Check out all his stuff and especially some of my favs: #betweentheworldandme #thewaterdancer #blackpanther #blackpantheranationunderourfeet https://www.instagram.com/p/CL2rndBhUhi/?igshid=1gaxtm18paijx
Black history month: Day 12 - I can honestly say that I’ve spoken about my love for this film ad nauseam. There isn’t a real reason that anyone around me shouldn’t have seen this film by now. It’s perfection. It’ll be on all day in my house. https://www.instagram.com/p/CLNAOZghoYz/?igshid=1gtik14tta90z
Black history month: Day 11 - This month is all about celebrating and lifting up the Black people around you. But it doesn’t mean that we are also not responsible for continually educating ourselves. @soyouwanttotalkabout is an amazing resource that provides on topic info for those seeking to learn about news, politics, terminology, equity, & other issues that matter in society. Above all else there is hyper focus on issues that concern minorities and how to better help them. If you’re not following this page you need to ASAP. https://www.instagram.com/p/CLJv0r8h5eC/?igshid=19it7coxe5wgi
Black history month: day 10 - A lot of the time I get really frustrated. Watching the Candace Owens, Kanye Wests, or Van Jones shuck and jive for the racist base that would like us to believe that racism is dead and not the foundation of the country. But then I see posts from @embracingblackculture and it makes my day! For many Black people finding a space where we can be unapologetically Black and discuss things without having to explain everything is like little tastes of freedom. https://www.instagram.com/p/CLHWy9nBNVK/?igshid=y2y1iwnqccr9
Black History Month: Day 9 - a lot of the time I forget that Black creativity drives the world. And there are so many Black creators out there that inspire me. (Today has been really exhausting so I need some inspiration.) @muaadib is one of the coolest and most outspoken artists in the game! I’m always learning and remembering how dope I am because of him!!! (Plus anyone that draws Ursula is 🔥🔥🔥) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLFWUtWMBH9/?igshid=xf0cegkf3gcd

Black history month Day 8: it’s important to not only share content and creators but those that are incredible resources. @readlikearockstar is amazing! Naomi consistently challenges ideas and norms while educating in quick helpful ways. A lot of the time we fear learning about Blackness and how white supremacy affects minorities. We fear terminology or miscommunication. But Naomi does an amazing job of making it simple to understand while still being direct. (And for my fellow educators she’s an amazing teacher!) #blackhistorymonth https://www.instagram.com/p/CLCf4C5BVOW/?igshid=outdbi3l1j5r
Generally I try to make Black History Month about uplifting things. But I think that I will use Sundays as an opportunity to vent: Day 7: this is the kind of thing that boils my blood, sets my soul on fire, & fills me with so much rage I have to put my phone down and take deep breaths. It’s not that this is ridiculous. Or that it’s unfair. Or that they have systemically used Black and BIPOC bodies as revenue in this prison system, essentially making them slaves. It’s not even that we know they use prison as a way to break people and dehumanize them. It’s that they have murdered so many innocent Black people for “alleged” crimes, but this actual terrorist gets respect and luxury. They murdered Elijah McClain before he even got to jail. They murdered him for walking down the street. They murdered Kalief Browder for “stealing a backpack allegedly”. They put him in solitary for two years as a minor where he tried to commit suicide multiple times. They murdered Sandra Bland, Michael Brown, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Terrill Thomas, and the list goes on and on. @wefuckinghatedonaldtrump shared this noting that there are 2 Americas. It really it’s just one. America has always said Black lives are worthless but white ones should be revered. And so when we talk about Black lives mattering we need to recognize this. https://www.instagram.com/p/CK_zFJgBhxM/?igshid=1qvtjygy9pus6
Black history month Day 6: @bldpwr is one of the best content pages on Instagram and an incredible learning source and place to learn to get better involved. Black history month is not just about learning about the past, but also about learning to make a better future. We have to learn and acknowledge Black history, perspectives, and realities and then ACTIVELY ASPIRE TO STAND AGAINST RACISM AND BIGOTRY IN ALL ITS FORMS. https://www.instagram.com/p/CK9XtMABouv/?igshid=111ozzogtauq9
Black History Month Day 5: if you’re not following @splendidrainco or repping her merch....you’re dropping the ball. Not only is she dope but she’s a creative leading the pro-Black movement in fashion. Remember: the world doesn’t move without Black creativity. #blacklivesmatter #blackhistorymonth https://www.instagram.com/p/CK6TmDsh8Ax/?igshid=1gc4uginpamn9
Happy Black History Day 4: Use today to examine how we are educated about Black History. Find resources on social media or through a simple google search. There are so many out there. This page on Instagram @diversifyournarrative is a great one that highlights the importance of education as a tool that serves every person not just our white students. Cultural appreciation is great but it’s not education. There’s a difference. #blackhistorymonth https://www.instagram.com/p/CK3trD2h2d4/?igshid=hglchw4hygry

Day 3 of Black History Month: literally this book is going to be the best thing I’ve read in 2021. @austinchanning opens with THE BEST chapter title. If the last 4 years have taught us anything it’s that we tired y’all. But I can’t wait to finish this because there is much more to her story than catchy titles. I relate to her perspective, her connection to religion, and the way she navigates the world. So glad this was recommended to me! #blackhistorymonth https://www.instagram.com/p/CK1rw7cBy3O/?igshid=t8u7jcyfam8v
Day 2 of Black History month!!! Each day I’ll be sharing Black resources and content from Black creatives as a way to spotlight how absolutely dope we are. First we have @jazminesullivan who I swear is THE most amazing artist alive. I love her music so much and this ep is EVERYTHING. For some dope art I’m also sharing @saintchase If y’all don’t know... now you know. https://www.instagram.com/p/CKy19LqhEGm/?igshid=1jfkgba15zish
