This is more unsettling than he would like to admit.
There is discomfort in seeing the machinations of miracles.
This is more unsettling than he would like to admit.
There is discomfort in seeing the machinations of miracles.
when you started packing your things you ran out of space and what was yours spilled into what was mine
when you left on that sunny sunday afternoon when i had a project due and my heart was a hummingbird in the cage of my chest i didn't cry and i'm not proud of it anymore
when you walked away with the sound of your voice dying on your lips the door closing behind the broad slope of your shoulders the weight of what was yours finally fell onto my narrow shoulders
when i walked away only to turn back and lock the door the finality of the moment settling in slowly like the way your lazy smirk spread across your lips
i found a wip for an ovw fanfic i was working on dfgdfgdf
i don’t even like ovw that much anymore but.... this wip is speaking to me again

Brandon Sanderon’s Laws of Magic Systems
Source
1. An author’s ability to solve conflict with magic is directly proportional to how well the reader understands said magic.
2. The limitations of a magic system are more interesting than its capabilities.
3. Go deeper instead of going wider - expand on what you already have before introducing new elements
Bonus: 0th Law: Always err on the side of what is awesome
Dude… there are video lectures w/ Brandon Sanderson… and one of them is on PLOTTING! :D
if all of the fantasy races in your setting (e.g.: elves, orcs, dwarves, etc) are white and based off of white european cultures you’re doing a mediocre job
if all of the fantasy races in your setting (except ones that are very racist caricatures) are white and based off of white european cultures you’re doing a bad job
if any of the fantasy races in your setting are based off of a poc culture (e.g.: japan, china, native american cultures, etc) but the people in that fantasy race are white/predominantly white you’re doing an Even Worse Job
if the majority of your fantasy races in your setting are white then you are robbing yourself of creative opportunities because this world is overflowing with culture and the fantasy setting is so focused on medieval european culture all the time that everything is one homogenous mess, so do yourself a favor and think of ways to diversify your setting because your story will only be better and more unique for it

struggling to find that want to write again... it’s been a really rough go of it
a lot of my love for writing was eaten up by some really unfortunate happenstances and it’s tough to overcome it
but here i go, trying again
i’m a gay trans man too, it’s cool to have someone else in the writeblr community who is as well!
super super late but hey yeah!! hmu sometime!!

Not to be That Asshole™ but...
Your high fantasy world can have dragons, magic, or entirely new races and species, but somehow it’s impossible to make the cultures non-homophobic?Â
How curious.

yo, poc writerblrs, can you reblog this?
i have noticed that there’s a lot of white writerblrs and the last time i created a post like this, i put poc and/or lgbt, which got a lot of reblogs yes! but it was mostly white lgbt, which is great, don’t get me wrong, however i’d like to follow more POC writers and creators!
if you’re white (not poc) and would still like to reblog this to get this around, please put NOT POC in your tag so I know who to follow and who to not!Â
i should also say that having POC characters does NOT make you POC. I dealt with something like that during the lgbt+ post.
“you can’t have an asian elf. elves don’t have human races”
*puts my mouth on the mic* excuse me mr. big bad dungeon’s master but i think it’s gonna be hard for you to run this campaign when you’re too busy being a shitty little bitch
hi hello asian writer here
it is astounding how people of color are considered “unrealistic” in settings of any sort. it can be fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction, and you’ll always get people decrying the “””accuracy””” of the material.
you know, the material that has fire-breathing dragons, magic, and mystical prophecies. or aliens, parallel universes, commercial space travel. hell, plausible things that could have happened in history.
there is no goddamn reason why people of color can’t be a part of the story, especially when typically, everybody is white in fantasy, or a horrible stereotype against a) black people or b) Jewish people. it’s more uncreative to stick with your fearful, racist, hate-fueled interpretation of ONLY white people everywhere.
now, the amazing thing is that you don’t need a reason or lore excuse or anything to have a diverse population in a fictional world. it will better your stories and writing to research other races and people because hey! there’s more to the world than fucking european history.
here’s a homework assignment: look up pre-colonial philippines. and know that pre-colonial filipinos had a higher literacy rate than madrid. just a fun fact to set you up for something beyond the “jungle savages” people imagine when they think about what my people could have possibly been before spain came to plunder and subjugate.
AND DON’T YOU DARE TRY TO TAKE POC HISTORY AND LAY IT OVER WHITE PEOPLE, YOU PIECE OF SHIT.
but asian people alone are real, tangible people in this world and it’s more unrealistic to say that we’re NOT here.
especially when the population in asia is 4.541 billion.
BOOM.
