Chapter 1: Running into a friend
Systems were failing. This had hardly happened before. The man fought the systems until it all stopped; lights down, screens off, buttons and levers unresponsive. What did he get himself into? He opened the door and looked around. âFuck....â the man said. He recognized the outside, or rather, inside. âDaleksâŚâ He entered his little chamber that blended with the surroundings again that was bigger on the inside. The inside of this chamber had dull grey panels on its walls, floor and roof and had some sort of console around a transparent tube that had a metal pillar going from above into a metal tube from below which had some openings on its sides to look at the metal pillar inside.
The man was about 1.80 meters tall with blue eyes and long brown hair, and was wearing a green T-shirt with a black hoodie jacket, denim jeans and sneakers. He pulled out a small, long device that was made of a steel-like material with a leather strap in the center, with an onyx gem at the bottom of it and 3 copper-like rings before a small dish and a blue crystal tip. âCome on, you old sonic screwdriverâŚâ the man muttered, adjusting the copper rings, then took a silver key in a chain that, instead of having teeth, it had a dimly glowing saphire crystal on the lower end, and put it around his neck. He walked out of this chamber and scanned his surroundings with the sonic screwdriver, walking along hallways and hiding of what seemed moving robotic turrets. The things hardly seemed to notice him. He used his device on a control panel, which activated an alarm, and then he ran back into his TARDIS, which was the previously mentioned chamber. He got spotted, but he quickly used the key on the TARDIS and rushed in, using the console to make it disappear out of the Dalek ship leaving only the brief sound of invisible engines.
The TARDIS then appeared in a big city, in a park with the same whoosh sound, disguised as a thick tree. Hexa, the man previously mentioned, opened the TARDISâ door, which blended in as a part of the cortex of the tree, stepped out and closed it behind him. He leaned on the TARDIS and slid down to a sitting position, exhaling. He rubbed his face with both hands, trying to calm himself down after what had happened.
âExcuse me, are you ok?â A voice spoke to him, a female voice. Hexa uncovered his face and looked up. It was a woman in about her twenties, had brown eyes, long black hair, and was fit. She was wearing a short sleeves shirt, skinny jeans and black heeled shoes.
â⌠Didnât anyone tell you not to talk to strangers?â Hexa replied.
âHow do you make friends, then?â
âSimple. Donât.â Hexa was being direct, and not very happy.
âWhere do you get your fun from, then?â She continued.
â⌠Relaxing, having quiet, peaceful time.â Well, he wasnât lying there.
âBoring. Letâs go!â She said, grabbing his hand, to which he pulled it off her grasp.
âI donât know you. You donât know me. Why do you insist?â Hexa replied, annoyed.
This girl seemed offended, but smiled. âIâm Sophia. You?â
Hexa let go a silent groan. âIâm⌠Mathew.â He replied, sighing and looking away. He needed a fake name. Giving his title away would cause trouble, one way or another.
âMathew? Thatâs an English name, isnât it?â Sophia replied.
Hexa looked at her surprised, and then looked around. He recognized the place. City of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Spanish speaking country. He looked back at her, she was giggling. âYeah⌠My parents were from England. They came here for business, and I stayed here.â Luckily, he had the TARDIS psychic link that helped in translation.
âYou are funny. And your Spanish is very good!â Sophia said, sitting down in front of him.
âThanks. I got here when I was young, so I went to school.â Hexa replied. The less anyone knew the truth, the better. He was pretty good making good cover stories.
âSee? Now weâre getting to meet each other! I come from Carlos Paz, Cordoba, so thatâs why my accent is a bit funny.â Sophia told him, smiling at him. Hexa could identify the different accent, because the TARDIS blended it to fit in the English language. âI came here to study astronomy and maybe get a job later in the US when I get my degree.â
Astronomy? That was quite a coincidence. âStudying stars? Doesnât that get a bit boring? Havenât we seen all the stars we can already?â Hexa said, curious. Earth only had one point of view of the universe.
âNot at all! We keep finding galaxies and stars and planets and itâs so interesting finding more about them!âshe replied looking up, grinning wide at the thought. She then looked back down at him.
Hexa was impressed, but he hid it. âAh. You got a point there. Guess there are some things left to find.â
âIndeed.â Sophia replied, grinning at him before getting up and stretching a hand down to him. âSo, ready for that coffee now?â
Hexa looked up at her, hesitating in his mind before grabbing her hand so she could help him up. âIs that what you were offering me before?â he asked, to which she nodded and they started walking off.
