Why do I have so many blogs right now
No one warned me that coming into your own also includes grieving the life you were conditioned to believe you wanted.
‘ if it only buys you a little time, that’s better than nothing. ’ (from eddie)
“ dude, what are you doing? get your ass back here! ” it’s a moment of protest— as if to fan out the fire that’s beginning to be set. there’s no room for error, teamwork will make the dream work. and yet, eddie chooses to play hero right at this moment— no longer choosing to run away but yet, face his problems head on. [it’s something steve can admire, but note the stupidity of at this very moment.] super mutants continue to surround the capitol building, a war raging outside as talon company mercenaries unload, robo-brains stumbling into the situation as well. rubbles falls around them, steve running to catch up as he yanks on the back of eddie’s jacket— his way of saying no. (the longer they’re out in the wasteland, steve swears they grow more cocky— more accustomed into believing they can’t die. death’s inevitable, though; it’s better to not test it, especially not right fucking now.)
“ c’mon, man— don’t fucking do this. if you go out there, this will have all been for nothing; this whole trip, everything. don’t do this. i know you want to be a hero. i get it; so do i. but there’s a time and place to act fuckin’ cute, and right now— not the time and place! ”
gaia showed me this vault build organizer and i’ve just put my whole profile of steve on there if anyone’s curious about skills/perks/s.p.e.c.i.a.l. stats!

was he telling her to shut up? there’s no way he’s telling her to shut up. bambi blinks at him absently, baffled at his audacity for only a split second before his actual intentions become clear. stay here? her lips part briefly— maybe to tell him to stop trying to play the hero, or maybe to call him a fucking idiot— but before the words can leave her mouth, he’s already disappeared and she’s left biting her tongue. splitting up is just a little counterintuitive to the whole buddy system thing, but sure. bambi manages to listen to his instructions for almost a complete minute, every second suddenly feeling a thousand times slower. the sounds of his footsteps get further and further away as she watches old dust fall from the ceiling. there isn’t supposed to be anyone here. there’s nothing to be worried about. that is, of course, until she hears the gunshots. they ring through the house like a chime of a clock and are punctuated only by the sound of empty casings falling to the floor. expletives spill as she yanks a combat knife from her belt and sprints up the rickety old staircase. it’s hard not to come to the conclusion that they are absolutely, positively, irrefutably fucked. finally, she stumbles into the master bedroom, knuckles white around the handle of the knife and eyes wild with concern. “ what the fuck was that? are you okay? “
are you okay? the question catches him off-guard, unintended hostility claiming his tone. “ no! i’m not okay! i was nearly fucking dessert because of them! ” he gestures towards the carcasses decorating the floor, his head shaking. forearm is raised to wipe his forehead, imagining beads of sweat beginning to form around his hairline. steve exhales a deep breath— one he hadn’t even realized he’d been holding until this moment. “ christ, that scared the ever living shit out of me. i missed a shot because those fuckers squirm so damn fast— it’s like they have a hive mind or something; they see one of them dart, they all follow. fucking little shits. ” once his composure is regained, he slowly goes further into the bedroom, the tip of rifle gently poking at one of the dead mole rat’s— his confirmation that they’re dead, and not pulling one over on him. (he’s had it happen before; if wild dogs can play dead, he assumes mole rats can follow in suit.) his head cranes over his shoulder, a brow raising at the blonde. “ free mole rat buffet courtesy of king steve? how about that? found some mentats in the bathroom, too— you can grab ‘em from my backpack. i won’t use ‘em. ”

❝ Punch and run ? Then what’s even the point ?! Better hope wherever you’re sneaking into is downwind cause I can smell whatever product you’re using from half a mile away . ❞
“ hey! i spend a lot of time finding this hairspray, thank you very much! it’s not every day you find hairspray out here— usually if i find hairspray, it’s ‘cause someone’s using it as a mini flamethrower. a raider burnt off one of my friend’s eyebrows before using that tech. why waste a perfectly good bottle of hairspray just to burn some shit? put the shit in the hair, make yourself look presentable, you know? ”
solesoldier:
❝ The stealth is of course optional, but so is my mercy. ❞
“ stealth? i’m like a ninja. i’ll be in and out before they even know it— trust me. i don’t know about the whole mercy thing, though; i’m more of a punch and run type guy. last time i got in a big fight or whatever, i lost a chunk of my hair. ”

“ how about you try to relax for… i don’t know, thirty seconds or something? “ she’s making a face, lips pulled into a thin line as she brushes past him to step into what looks like the remnants of a dining room. the floorboards creak in response and for a split second, she thinks she hears something walking around upstairs. radroaches. probably. “ believe me, you weren’t exactly my first pick— but eddie’s got guard duty until dusk and this is the only time that this place isn’t crawling with raiders. “ or at least… it should be. in any case, big town isn’t exactly a bustling metropolis so bambi’s more or less scraped the bottom of the barrel for anyone who’s mildly competent with a weapon. “ but if you have to know right at this second, i’m pretty sure this place is like … an outpost. or something like that. you know, like where slavers and raiders … meet to do business and stuff? “ her brows furrow slightly as she tries to explain her theory. she’s never been overly articulate. now that she’s spoken it out loud, she realizes how incredulous this is. she gulps down the newly formed lump in her throat and shrugs with the same nonchalance as someone choosing what to eat for breakfast. “ so, i was thinking … maybe we can find out when they’re planning their next visit to big town and for once, maybe we’d have the upper hand? does that make sense? “
“ oh, i’m sorry, i didn’t realize i’m supposed to be calm right now. let me take a deep breath and pretend we’re not walking into a potential death trap! ” cynicism roots itself on his tongue, his sudden case of nerves flittering up from his gut and into his esophagus. steve notices the floorboards creaking upstairs and from that moment, the rest of the girl’s words enter in one ear and right out the other. by the time she’s finished, he moves his index finger to cover his lips: his way of saying hush. he adjusts his hand around the rifle in his possession, making his way to the staircase; he can feel butterflies threatening to escape from his mouth. he spares a quick glance in bambi’s direction, as if it’ll give him clarity about what he’s about to do. “ stay here— ” he commands her, slowly making his way up the stairs. the floorboards creak with every step (so much for being a ninja.) once he’s at the top, his rifle is raised as hazel hues stare down the sight. the bathroom is the first room he checks— finding nothing but empty stimpaks and an half-filled carton of mentats. (he claims his dibs by shoving the carton into his backpack.) the second bedroom is the second room— once again empty. it only leaves the master bedroom as the source of sound and by the time he’s at the door, he hesitates opening the door. once he does, he’s greeted with two mole rats, sharing a meal of radroaches with one another— when they peer up at him, that’s when he realizes: he’s the soon-to-be dessert. “ shit! ” and the rifle is shot three times.

FALLOUT 4 STARTERS
a collection of some of my favorite quotes from fallout 4, mostly from the railroad members. feel free to change pronouns, etc.
‘ sure, i read the manual from cover to cover. ’ ‘ see? just like falling off a log. ’ ‘ dear god. we’re dead. ’ ‘ so if we look, walk, and, worse comes to worst, talk like an asshole with a superiority complex, we’ll be fine. ’ ‘ if it only buys you a little time, that’s better than nothing. ’ ‘ my job, as always, is to watch your back. ’ ‘ am i the only one that thinks this is all insane? ’ ‘ remember: keep that uniform on, or this is going to be the shortest infiltration in history. ’ ‘ we seriously didn’t raise an alarm? i can’t believe we’re getting away with this. ’ ‘ you’re making this look easy. ’ ‘ i need a drink. ’ ‘ dozens of years, countless sacrifices. it all paid off, thanks to you. ’ ‘ some things, even [NAME] can’t do. maybe. ’ ‘ hate runs deep here. deeper than the soil. ’ ‘ so… yeah. we did that. ’ ‘ some dusty old philosopher thought people were made of metals that defined their character. and you, my friend, are solid gold. ’ ‘ you know, before i met you, i used to go whole days without massacring things. honest! ’ ‘ not that i don’t appreciate the irony of a reverse damsel-in-distress scenario… ’ ‘ more stairs? who built this damn place, a fitness instructor? ’ ‘ you’re having a party. what gives with my invitation? ’ ‘ isn’t there supposed to be a light? ’ ‘ look at what they’re doing. what they’re asking you to do. what sort of world they’d have you build and how they’re going to pay for it. ’ ‘ whatever caused our fates to intertwine would never let them unravel. ’ ‘ i’ve got a weapon for every situation. hunting, profession, cold-blooded murder… hot-blooded murder… ’ ‘ in a hundred years, when i finally die, i only hope i go to hell so i can kill you all over again, you piece of shit. ’ ‘ we live to see another day. and night. and day. et cetera. ’
Risky Business (1983) dir. Paul Brickman
@fatefault
he’s watching as bambi’s peeling back a few of the near-destroyed curtains in this abandoned house; curiousness turns to concern. there’s something off about this place. there’s footprints imprinted in the carpet— too fresh that they wouldn’t be pre-war, but not recent enough he believes someone else is in here right this very second. yet, it’s enough to make him visibly wince as he taps her on the shoulder; he pulls off the mask of hero and its replaced with consternation. “ gotta’ be honest here— i’m not a fan of this! not one bit. if i’d known this is where we were going, i wouldn’t have come! why didn’t you ask munson? if i walk into a spiderweb, you’re in charge of getting the shit out of my hair, since you wanted to be a tough gal and bring us here in the first place! ” he pauses; as grim and horrifying as this is, he needs to put his big boy pants on— just like she’s done with herself. “ what are we even looking for? you’ve kept this whole thing so secret— are you setting me up? like, is this when you pull out a gun and tell me to hand over all my caps before you blow a hole in my head? ”
vaulte:
“ ahhh good ol’ bread. generally moldy bread won’t kill you, the problem is vomiting causes dehydration sickness which can kill you. so honestly, dumping water on him wasn’t a bad idea. did you know that moldy bread was a major breakthrough for medicine? doesn’t mean you should eat it but the growing mold spore bacteria can help produce anti-biotics. i used to help produce a basic distilled form of penicillin back in the vault with the leftovers. ” her eyes drift down to her pip-boy, the ugly green glow illuminating the map as they trailed through the caves; dogmeat at her heels. “ bread is actually quite easy to make when you know where to source it. i mean, i’ve had to figure out substituting packet yeast for using ground wheat and peach skins but i can teach you if you want— god. i sound so stupid, talking about fucking bread. you don’t give a shit about bread. i hate the wastelands. i miss the vault but i hated it there. the world is shit, you want to make it better for the people you care about. marley, she another friend of yours? tell me she isn’t going to kick my ass for kidnapping you on my quest to find a geck because i will lose. ”
it strikes a cord with her, i’m doing this for my people. everything she did to help vault 101 & then got rejected. hopefully it goes better for steve. “ no, i uh… i can get that. i tried to help my people but… whatever, what’s your main issues down here anyways? food, electricity? medical care? i’m no engineer but i have some friends who might be able to help— and back in the vault, i was training to be a doctor. you got any sick kids, throw ’em my way. god, i mean that’s my whole big stupid point of this. i want to help. everyone. i’m going to purify this stupid waterfilled wasteland if it kills me. ”
“ we weren’t doing it to help him, though— we did it because we were dicks. none of us knew shit about medicine or mold, whatever— we were young and trying to be assholes; that’s the difference. ” he does listen to her— even though she’s right: who gives a shit about bread? (it doesn’t mean he understands a single word of what she just said, but he listens.) tries to make a mental note of things that might come in handy somewhere along the line, or something he can relay back to the lamplighters or residents of big town— anything to give them an upper-hand in the world they’re exploring. “ marley’s my girlfriend, i think? i don’t know— it changes every day; she’s the one who put out the message about our missing people. she won’t kick your ass yet, but she’ll kick your ass if you said you were going to help us find our friends, only to just use me to get whatever the fuck the geck is. ” eyes continue glancing around the cave’s tunnel as something mixed with both excitement and adrenaline flows through him. “ really? that’d be awesome— the kids would love it, those little shits. food isn’t too much of an issue, especially now that we’re making it a priority to bring food back for the lamplighters. dustin and some of his friends, they’ve got the electricity running pretty good; they deserve all the credit. when i lived at lamplight, it was shit; they’ve practically made it into a fucking paradise. we keep telling them if they get sick, we’ll take them to red’s clinic— our town’s doctor— and bring them back to lamplight once they’re good, but she’s one of the missing people. ”
vaulte:
“ yeah. i guess we are. the fact that this isn’t even the dumbest conversation i’ve ever had is the worst part. i once argued with butch for three days about what a mammal was. don’t even remember how the argument started. … we used to eat a lot beans in the vault too. but we had this shitty hydroponics plant so they were off the stalk and they tasted awful cause whoever was in charge of hydroponics never cleaned the mold out properly. ” it’s like having a mini-version of butch with her. what was the point in leaving him in rivet if she was just going to pick up another one along the way? stupid wastelands, stupid butch, stupid jesse— stupid steve. “ anyone with a— no. no they fucking wouldn’t. you know what i am? easy pickings. the only reason people in megaton helped me is because i helped them. disabled their stupid bomb and for what! fucking children of atom getting on my ass. and it’s called a pip-boy ( a drawn out sigh, ) i can uh, i can try find you one if you want? vault 87 might have some and if that dustin is half as smart as he sounds, i’m sure he can wire it up for you. ”
“ once, back at little lamplight, we found a pile of this old spongey stuff? someone called it bread— it was all moldy, no one knew how long it’d even been there, and i refused to eat it; absolutely refused, but one of the other kids did. he puked his guts out for days; we were all convinced he was going to die. he didn’t, but we were all scared shitless; running around, trying to help him out... my friends were dicks about it. they woke him up in the middle of the night and tossed water on him, saying it’d cure him or some shit... i don’t know— we were young. stupid shit, you know? shit you look back on and just wonder, what the hell was i doing? ” there’s nights he questions whether he should even be alive after his childhood— king of little lamplight, heart of nothing; most days, he considers it a dodged bullet, but it doesn’t make the nights any easier to sleep through.
“ look— you might be right; being easy pickings and all that. i don’t know, i just think... i’m here, alright? i’m staying because i got things to work out, and i think this might help me; maybe it’s selfish, who knows— you can figure that out for yourself, but i wanna’ help. if we find a pip-boy, then cool! awesome! but even if we don’t, i’m sticking around, i think... marley might get mad... dustin even... i don’t want them to think i’m abandoning them, because i’m not? i’m doing this for them. now i’m rambling— it’s the ego talking, i guess. i want to help, though— and i think you can help me, maybe. ” (i want to help / please let me help.)

paresital:
as she listens to him, her head bobs in agreement. “that’s good— smart, even. enough information to draw someone in, but not enough to tell them exactly we’re at without conversing first…” she trails off, planting herself in the chair directly in front of the radio. she exhales a deep breath, her lips pressing themselves together for a moment; an expression of here goes nothing spreads across her face as she presses the red button— this has to be the button, right? she repeats the statement point blank, arguing with steve over with button broadcasts the message and which button is the on/off button, but they manage. “now we wait. someone has to hear it, right? we’re losing people left and right here… i’m scared— i should’ve taken the shot the last time i saw them. i saw them right outside the fucking clinic and i was just so scared. i’ve only shot at the big bugs, though and those move so much slower… i was scared. now they have red, shorty… i should’ve just taken the shot.”
“ you can’t beat yourself over this; not even dusty shot at them! he’s supposed to be our guard— not you. at least you spoke up... dusty wasn’t going to; he was going to let us walk into red’s clinic and find her missing. probably tell us she ran off in the middle of the night. ” a hand runs itself through his hair, teeth biting down on his bottom lip; this wasn’t the time to complain about dusty, no matter how much he hated the guy. (a former friend from a previous life; the king of little lamplight— one steve was attempting to leave in the past, no matter how hard it was.) moving around the desk, he moves behind her as he places his hands on her shoulders, squeezing them gently. “ we’ll figure it out, okay? we put the message out there— someone is bound to hear it; we’ll get them back and it’ll be like it never happened. think about all the things you’ve got to tell red— like how bittercup snorted milk out of her nose yesterday because she was laughing so hard? that was hilarious! red will want to hear about that— i definitely don’t think that’s normal... or safe... i’ve never done that before? ”
vaulte:
“ everyone in the wastelands knows what a fruit is! oh my fucking god this is so stupi— i’m going to find a mutfruit tree when this is all over and make you eat every single one of them. give you an actual education on fruit. ” and maybe it’s hypocritical, she’s still a baby to the wastelands. a fresh little vault dweller, all sunburnt and new to the world. stupid little vault dweller— half-hauling her ass over a rock and half-dragging the dead leg behind, lips twisted in a pout. no more equipped to handle the world then him— well, apart from maybe the guns and knives and the baseball grenades. “ just you wait. all the poor nutrition and lack of sunlight down here will rot you just like me. your future, right here. unable to properly solidify joints and now bam, you’ll turn twenty two and instantly turn bald. oh yeah, let me just use my brain to just fucking levitate over this rock— perfect! you’ve cured me! i can’t believe i lumbered around for all these years with my leg when all i had to do was use my brain! and i fucking earned this ego! you probably don’t even know what a germ is! ”
“ are we seriously arguing about fruit? all we had in little lamplight was pudding— one of the kids, dustin, he’s obsessed with pudding; it’s all he’ll eat. we had some cans of beans, too— i liked the beans, but then they make you gassy and my girlfriend hated that. she’d always scoot away from me and say i stunk— you know what! no! you don’t get to hear this shit! you’ve lost the privilege to hear about my life! ” he shakes his head rapidly, uh-uh’s trailing from his mouth. “ i meant anyone with a brain would offer you a hand. and you think you’re so smart? get over yourself; if there’s a rock down here, i’ll fucking help you, but that’s it! that’s all you get from stevie. and i know what a germ is! i’m not stupid— i’m quite smart actually; that transmission you heard on your little wrist-thingy? i fixed that radio! well, actually, i hired dustin to help me but i did help hold things! i held the flashlight, i held some of the knobs... i helped fix it, alright! so, if you don’t mind, i would appreciate some credit where it’s due. ”
