Hello there! So this is pretty much the last proper week of collage? It's sunny outside so bless everyone indoors working. A few announcements! Tonight there is no screening due to the society's ball. However, filmsoc are having a quiz Tuesday at 8pm! It's in Busker Browns and it's €20 for a team of four! Before that we are having our AGM meeting at at 6pm in meeting room 1. If you're interested in joining the committee, drop on by ~ Finally, let me ask you a question. When was the last time you watched the original 'The Fast and The Furious'? Our guess is too long! This Thursday we will be screening this cinematic gem along with free pizza! Hello everyone! This week filmsoc are brining you some really great world cinema films! Monday we are showing 'About Elly' an Iranian film from the same director who won an Oscar this year but did not attend the event out of protest. It's a great chance to see some Iranian cinema (which is just fantastic btw) at 7pm in the D'arcy Thompson Theatre. On Thursday we have a real Japanese gem with 'Ringu' at 6pm in the Darcy Thompson. You may have seen the American remake but the original Japanese version deserves a lot of love. If you've ever read any of their urban legend or played the early silent hill games (Rip Silent Hills 😩 why konami?!) than you know that the Japanese do creepy really really well. Hello there everyone! Just letting you know that this week Filmsoc is bringing you masked killers and cowboys this week! Tonight we are screening John carpenters amazing 'Halloween' at 7pm in the D'arcy Thompson theatre. This 1978 film was so influential on the genre and still hold up as a great peace of film. Later this week on Thursday we will be screening the Oscar nominated 'Hell or High Water' at 6pm in the D'arcy Thompson. This film had a pretty limited run here in Galway so this is a neat chance to see it if you're interested! Hope to see there! Ps. Happy Sunday everyone! FilmSoc is coming to you all a little earlier than normal. This week we have two great films for you. Hitchcock's classic 'Psycho' on Monday and the underrated Coen Brothers flick 'Burn After Reading' on Thursday. Both are a good time but probably or different reasons. We screen in the D'arcy Thompson both days at 7pm in Monday and 6pm Thursday. Additionally, we usually start at 10 minutes past the hour just incase anyone would like to come but don't want to miss the start. FilmSoc will be screening 'Captain Fantastic' tonight at 7pm in the D'arcy Thompson theatre. Viggo Mortensen was nominated for an Oscar this year (disappointed sigh) and gives a great performance along with the entire cast.
