Me as an artist when I'm old (with hope)
mr loverboy
yeah, i couldnt decide on which one lol
hewwo!! you capture people so well in your art! would you be willing to do a tutorial on capturing people's characteristics ?? like the frank/Billy fanart?? I cant seem to capture likeliness well
thank you so much! sorry about the late reply, i was wondering how i should reply to this (plus i was on vacation lol)
the thing is, the reason why i’m “good” at capturing bernthal or barnes as their respective characters is bc i stared at references. a LOT!! i have a huge folder of their faces at diff. angles (please… dont @ me… im an artist its habit) and while it’s considerably faster now, my process used to be 80% staring and 20% actual drawing because i wanted to get it Right™.
when i first started out:
^ ???
therefore, my FIRST TIP IS: don’t be afraid of references!!! i know it can be kinda scary and a lot of artists think “i’m not a real artist for using references” but references are awesome and if you use them to learn, you can then create stuff without relying too heavily on them in the future!
SECOND TIP: pay attention to proportions. facial proportions are, imo, what’s most important when creating a likeness – the size of the eyes in relation to their nose, the space between their eyebrows, distance from the end of their chin to their lips, etc. … this is also something you get from studying references.
once you get the proportions down, you can then simplify / use your own style to draw them! (theusbdsuad it probably doesn’t help that my style has been… SEVERELY impacted by doing bernthal studies)
THIRD TIP: as you continue drawing the person, you’ll begin to notice certain aspects that make them Them. the following is a loosely annotated version of some recent sketches of things i ALWAYS make sure to include if i’m drawing frank:
by including these things, he looks like him to me (IN MY OPINION), and so by drawing these things again and again and again, WHILE comparing them to ref pics to make sure they look right, i get used to them and BAM. likeness!
tl;dr it really boils down to practice! stare at references! practice!!! it deadass took me about like a couple of weeks of nothing but drawing The Bernthal to be able to draw him in a comfortable style, and even today i still have a bunch of pics open while drawing him!
good luck out there, and i hope this helped!!! let me know if you have other questions!!
I would love to see your thought process for doing your art sometime! Not necessarily a tutorial, but especially when you're working on faces
Sure! I don’t have much of a strategy tbh, I just draw, but there are some principles I keep in mind that particularly help with expression. I’ll walk through a couple drawings under the cut, one being this drawing here.

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.
>:)c
May I present to you, nationalclothing.org?
It doesn't have everything, but it's still my first source when researching traditional clothing from other cultures.
There's also this resource on historical fashion: Claire’s Historical Fashion Reference & Resources
another addition as far as physical media goes there is the encyclopedia of national dress (that i still need to buy myself bc this kind of thing is super important to my sort of fantasy designing) but yes i do agree i wish there was EVEN MORE documentation on this
one does not simply learn to use a huion tablet in krita in one day
a jiratsu wip i’m currently working on - there’s a lot of stuff to do here but hey, it feels promising ! if it works i’ll use it as a cover for my fanfic ! sort of liked the test colours i’ve used here, maybe i’ll keep the palette idk yet
i swear the minut i find this wip, its over for you bitches, i just got myself a new huion tabled thingy (no display sadly but anywayyy) and the MINUTE i learn how to use it i will finish this one
Santa: What do you want for Christmas?

concept for a water tribe inspired necklace for a thread.

a wip i had saved on my screenshots for a hot while - ngl, i did like the new pen but painting and shading are still a painful process to me. yes, that is a character from a telenovela bc ofc i’d draw one of the characters responsible for my gay awakening lol

i accidentally deleted my previous account aka @doodlesbynox and dumblr won’t let me take that url again so *sigh* here we are ! these are from the first time i took part in a drawing/fandom event and honestly ? although my stuff here is very cringe worthy, i hold these close to my heart. i do plan on doing these again once i’m better at drawing though, for now i can only hope for @sannin-central to run another sannin week some day in the future.
