Upon hearing Nyxâs half finished question, she just shakes her head. âLong story.â And not one she wanted to get into right away. The relief that she felt upon seeing her sister was almost literally knocked out of her as her nephew charges in and answers her question without Nyx having to answer. Scooping her nephew up she canât help the grin on her features. âHowâs it going, Little Man?â Thereâs a giggle from him as she peppers kisses over his little face, though he protests it through it. Her eyes are eager to take in anything that might have changed in the little boy and as always she canât help but indulge him. âYouâre not so little any more, maybe Iâll have to start calling you Big Guy.â In her hurry to get there sheâd forgotten to bring him anything, something sheâd be sure to make up for.
Her sisterâs word make her look over the little boyâs head at her. Just like her gaze had travelled over Jaxon, she took in her sisterâs appearance. It didnât take much for her to spot how worn and worried her sister looked and she wants nothing more than to be able to help. So while Nyxâs words might make her frown and leave her stumped for a little while itâs not long before sheâs issuing a light, âWhy not?â though thereâs no denying the quiet challenge in it to an adult.
Before sheâs really given enough time for her sister to answer, Gaia is moving swiftly on in an attempt to nip any arguments in the bud. Sheâd needed to be there, firstly because she wasnât going back to New Orleans any time soon and secondly, it was obvious that her sister needed her. Whether or not Nyx would admit to that or not was yet to be seen. âYou werenât answering your calls, Nic Nac.â The use of her childhood nickname for her sister is both habit and an attempt to get her to listen. âI know thereâs something going on and you know Iâm not going anywhere when you might need me.â
âBesides I-â Stopping short she decided not to mention her other motive for being there just yet, knowing her sister would be quick enough to pick up on the lack of Caleb soon enough. âBesides, Iâve missed you.â
âCome here.â
Nyx moves in to embrace her sister, kissing her son on his cheek since heâs still wrapped around Gaia too. She doesnât mean to sound unhappy or ungrateful to see the younger woman, itâs just that now her reasons to worry have jumped exponentially. Gaia is too sweet and too prone to trouble for her to be around now. But the tone of her voice when she asks Nyx why she shouldnât be here tells her she wonât be moved either. Sheâs staying.
When she lets go again, Nyx looks over her baby sister -- she looks well though thereâs something a bit lost in her eyes. She picks up on it after she greets the two dogs at her feet and notices a very obvious empty space next to Gaia.
âDoes he at least know youâre here?â she asks, not needing to specify. Gaia knows her and knows exactly what she means.
Hearing Nic Nac makes her cringe playfully as it always does, but it does the job in making her pay attention. She nods, well aware of the fact that her lack of communication wouldâve provoked her familyâs concern.
She hugs the young woman again, a bit longer and tighter this time.
âIâm glad youâre here,â she whispers genuinely, smiling. Then she has a thought that makes her smile even brighter. âAriadneâs here too.â
What would you do if The Initiative came for your sister?
âOh, I wish someone would fucking try.â
Do you think it's a safe time for your sister to be here?
âHell no, but she, as always, refuses to listen to me.â
Waiting had never been something she was able to do well. There was always too much energy running through her veins, begging to be put to use. But that was what she found herself doing as she sat on her sisterâs sofa, miles away from home and where her heart still was. There had been countless calls to her sister that had gone straight to voice mail and sheâd been biting her lip something chronic each time her heart leapt only to fall quickly once more as she failed to get through.
In such a state sheâd forgotten why sheâd ventured out there in the first place. Her fingers had moved quickly across her phone screen without thinking, typing a messaged packed with worry to the man whose life sheâd been trying to make better with her absence. The fact that sheâd failed barely occurred to her as she searched for something to distract herself, turning on the news only to be greeted by images that sent a chill down her spine and let every worst case scenario run rife through her head.Â
Gaia didnât know how much time had passed before she heard a key in the lock, the two blonde heads at her feet lifting at the sound. On her feet in seconds, she turned to the door, not bothering to give her dogs the instruction to sit or stay. They knew who was coming through. âWhere the hell have you been?â Conveniently forgetting that Nyx might have had questions of her own, like what exactly her sister was doing so far from home, Gaia continued to let her words flow freely and quickly. â I saw the news, I saw - Iâve been so worried. Are you ok? Whereâs the little guy - is he ok? â
The days since the raid have been the most stressful Nyx has had since she first got to California. Then it was thoughts of taking her son so far away from his father without telling him that kept her up all night and biting at her fingernails. Now she spends all her time wondering whoâs watching her. She had pretty clearly aligned herself with the mutants at the tavern, and she figures the Initiative would think it safe to assume that she too is a mutant, one whose power had been canceled out by the Corinthian (and godfuckingdammit sheâd just known there was something wrong with that guy).
Sheâs not worried about herself -- she can handle her own defense just fine -- itâs Jaxon sheâs nearly sick over. Her little boy is the only thing she has now since sheâs left her family behind in Louisiana. Who knows if any agents had followed her or could track her here? To her baby. Sheâs been so cautious lately, almost too much so, and even though her son clearly notices, heâs far too carefree a child to fret over it. And he trusts her. Thatâs the scary part. He trusts her to take care of him, to keep him safe. Nyx can only pray her fighting spirit wonât lead to a betrayal of that trust.
Thereâs been less than no time for her phone. Between worrying about Jaxon and Rhys who sheâs learned has gone missing and staying with Ariadne whose concussion hadnât been helped by Orionâs disappearance, Nyx has been pretty tied up. She canât even remember where her phone is, let alone when the last time she looked at it was. When she finally finds it (in her sonâs underwear drawer) and notices the obscene number of missed calls and texts from her sister, she feels guilty and makes a mental note to stop and call the younger woman back before she does something drastic.
Like show up at her place.
â..............Gaia?!â
Her sister is the very last thing sheâd expected to see when she and Jaxon came back from their walk, yet here she is, she and her babies all stirred up with concern and excitement. Jaxon peeks from around her legs and sees his aunt and lights up.
âYAYA!!!!!!â
He runs at her and leaps into her arms as Nyx shuts and locks the door behind them and heads further into her house.
âJesus Christ, what are you--?! Gigi, you canât be here right now!â

The Arrow Sisters Aesthetic
Gaia Arrow Moodboard 1/?
Boom Town || Nyx & Bern
Sass had never been something he could claim to be fond of. He found it rather indulgent most of the time and just a general waste of time. So it was needless to say that he didnât appreciate it from the woman in answer to his question.
But he could appreciate the way she handles herself. The other agent is dispatched in brutal fashion and he canât help but admire just how much blood sheâs shed within seconds. Exactly what needs to be happening.
Her actions answer his question for him and he gives her a curt nod in return, though itâs possibly on the warmer side than the first one heâd given her. âBern.â He left off a reply about them kicking ass together - whether it was a good thing was yet to be soon.
Had there not been bullets flying and the sound of glass shattering he might have almost smiled at the terrified expression on the manâs face as the question was raised as to who would take him. As it was, he didnât let any amusement chink his armour, because his stony expression was as much a part of his protection as anything else. Made people think twice about approaching him and that was all he needed. Just a split second to get a hold of them and then it was all over.
âAfter you.â Usually he wasnât one to pass up a fight but he wanted to see what this woman could do. If they were going to work together he neede to get some idea of ther strengths and weaknesses.
Besides, their little uproar had caught attention and there were plenty more agents coming their way who he was more than happy to lay his fists into, wasting no time in doing so when the first one was close enough.
Bern.
Definitely not his first name.
It doesnât matter though -- whatâs important is that he seems to have recognized that theyâre on the same side. Just as the remaining agent apparently recognizes that heâs not going to have an easy time with either of them.
Curiously, Bern hands over the reins of their little skirmish for the time being, telling her in very few words that the last guy is hers to take care of. She almost smirks, but sheâs too angry now -- sheâd been having a perfectly chill day, sheâd met a new drinking buddy... and now sheâs fighting for her life, fighting to get back to her son and safety.
Sheâs fucking pissed.
And it shows when she picks up the chair from the table to her left. Nyx is a fighter, for sure, but not one of the fancy, martial arts kind: sheâs a street fighter which means sheâll use anything and everything around her to her advantage. Including that chair.
She shoves it hard into the agentâs chest by the legs, and he stumbles backwards. It gives her enough space to turn the chair from a battering ram to a club. In a two-hand swing, she brings it down across his head and shoulder and he falls to the ground, unmoving. Two more rush her, and she swings at them too, hitting one in the arm and the other in the ribs. Both try to get in follow-up blows, but Nyx is anticipating them. She drops the chair and ducks their wound up fists to deliver a volley of punches to each, and they drop just as their associate did. She turns to look for any more takers when she sees one approaching Bern. As heâs distracted taking down a few agents of his own, she grabs the nearest thing to her -- her quarter-full glass tumbler -- and launches it. It hits the female agent (and why the hell had she been willing to take on a man twice her size anyway?) just over the eyebrow and breaks. She goes down too, screaming over the glass in her face and the alcohol in her eye.

Boom Town || Nyx & Bern
There was a tightening of his lips that could have been classed as a smile if you were being liberal but for Bern it was a good as it got. Thankfully the woman seemed happy to let silence settle between them and the was the way he preferred it. Though he was sure that any attempts she made being greeted by his usual monosyllabic answers would quickly tell her that heâd come to be alone and wasnât looking for any sort of company. Taking a sip of his drink, he let his eyes travel around the room. Theyâd just brushed past the door when it was flung open and agents came pouring in, threatening to take them all away in cuffs or a body bag.
He rose to his feet as soon as they entered. Slowly and deliberately. The set of his shoulders and the way that he planted his feet showed them that this was not a surrender, he would not comply. No, he was standing his ground and not going down without a fight. His body tensed as he tried to summon the metal that was always resting underneath his kin but it didnât come. Maybe it should have caused a bigger reaction than the smallest of frowns lasting only seconds but he wasnât worried. Causing damage with his bare hands was something heâd been doing for ears.
The first one who neared him looked wary, and rightly so, even without his skin glinting from the strength of the metal that usually encased it he was deadly. With precise, powerful punches he drove the man back before getting the upper hand and slamming his head into the wall with a crunch. It was debilitating though he didnât pause long enough to see if it had also been fatal. In the break while the other agents seemed to silently argue over who would try to tackle him next, Bern turned to the woman heâd been sharing a table with, trying to decide if she was at threat that needed to be neutralised or a potentially ally. Hands poised and ready to strike again his eyes barely left the men while he addressed her bluntly. âWhose side are you on?â
She knew enough guys back home like this one to recognize the smile in the barely there quirk of her tablemateâs lips. It makes it clear to her right away what type of man sheâs dealing with -- he wonât make small talk, and heâs not gonna try to hit on her. He just wants to sit and drink and be left in peace.
She can appreciate that. She feels the same way.
His eyes scan the crowd as hers had done when she first sat down, but while sheâd spotted several faces that she knew or at least recognized, heâs interrupted in the act by the hoard of yelling agents that came rushing into the tavern. The newcomer rises slowly to his feet, and every inch of his body screams fighter. Screams killer.Â
Sheâs not disappointed when he (very, very nicely) handles the man who comes at him. While the other two debate whether or not to approach, Nyx lets go, letting the thick walls and guards she builds up around her power crumble...
And nothing happens.
âFucking Corinthians,â she hisses, just as her new punchy friend asks her whose side sheâs on. She quirks an eyebrow -- she really canât help but be a smartass, itâs in her nature -- but before she can spit out a sassy retort, one of the men is rushing at her.
Nyx picks up the napkin dispenser in her left hand. The force from her backhand swing sends the man running at her crumbling to the ground screaming, blood dripping down the side of his face and off of the dispenser itself. With a foot on his crotch to make sure he doesnât move or try anything, Nyx reaches down and relieves him of his firearm, disassembling it and throwing the pieces to the ground behind her with no trouble. She then turns back to the man in front of her.
âNyx. Nice to be kicking ass with you.â She nods towards the third man. âYou got him, or you want me to?â
Harlow gladly followed after Nyx out of the coffee shop. Not that she would have minded staying inside the shop, but sometimes if her nerves got the better of her, her powers tended to go awol. And if that was to happen, sheâd rather have it happen away from a crowd. Not that Nyx made her nervous. Actually, it was quite the opposite.
Once they sat down at the bench again, Harlow took a sip of her coffee. âMinnesota,â she replied, âa small town about an hour away from the Twin Cities. What about you?â
âMinne--â
Nyx pauses in taking another sip of her coffee to look over at Harlow, an amused quirk to her eyebrow.
âMinnesota. What the hellâs in Minnesota that isnât the Vikings?â
Boom Town || Nyx & Bern
Heâd never been much of a drinker and any of the need to had all but vanished once heâd joined the Syndicate. Even if it had been whiskey fuelled rage that had led him to even be a part of it in the first place but that doesnât mean he relished the lack of control it brought him too. From that day a month could easily go by without a drop of alcohol passing his lips. His rage wasnât something to be played with and the chance of stoking it with the liquid wasnât one he was willing to take most of the time. Heâd be no good to the Syndicate if he ended up behind bars for making a mess of some guy who couldnât keep his mouth shut.
But for once heâd craved it. Not enough to get him drunk, of course but just a quiet drink at a bar. With the Initiative around more than anyone wanted he was tenser than usual, coiled like a spring and ready to jump into action at the first opportunity. Thereâd been no break through for him in finding the man Gwen had asked him to take care of and that alone had driven his frustration levels high enough to try to find something to take a little bit of the edge off.Â
His intention had been to get to Left Blank at a quiter time, avoid having to make small talk with people who heâd rather jut ignored him so he could ignore them right back. Except the place was full, with him having to direct a few curt nods to other members that he saw in the place. All the Selvaggios were there, Rhys and a couple of others too. But instead of striking up a conversation like he maybe should have he focused on what heâd come there for and bought his whiskey before heading to a more peaceful corner. The table that he had his eye on only had one other occupant who seemed like sheâd be happy enough in her own company and let him have his drink in peace. Clearing his throat, Bern got the womanâs attention before inquiring gruffly. âThis seat taken?â
Itâs rare that Nyx gets time to herself, but Jaxonâs playdate and sleepover meant that she got some much needed time to think. Or, in her case, brood. Thereâs a lot on her mind lately: her sister and parents still back in Louisiana and without her for the first time ever, Ariadneâs insistence that Roman should know that she and Jax are in LA, and the mysterious and slightly creepy stranger sheâd met weeks ago chief among them. Those thoughts alone are heavy enough to drive her to Left Blank -- she needs something to take the edge off. To slow the buzzing maelstrom in her head and give her some semblance of peace.
Sheâd gotten to the tavern just before the rush -- itâd been easy enough to order her drink and grab a table in the corner where she could be alone and watch everyone else get drunk and crazy. Laugh at everyone else causing themselves problems rather than contemplating their own. As business started to pick up, Nyx was more and more glad that sheâd come early. Having to push her way through this throng of people to get to the bar and then be stuck without a table wouldâve pissed her off to no end. Such was her mood. As it is, sheâs already glaring off unwanted advances from half drunk suitors who wouldnât even hold her interest were they sober.
Itâs as one such rejected guy walks away that another shuffles up. For some reason, sheâs not alarmed though heâs huge and, when he speaks, gruff as hell. She can tell heâs not the cuddly type, but thatâs okay. She nods to the open chair regardless, offering him a quick smile.
âHave at it.â
Work It Out || Nyx & Rhys
Rhys wasnât much of a boxer to begin with. Not that he couldnât hold his own in a fight, but his form and the force of his punches had definitely improved courtesy of Ariadne. Ever since they had first met heading to the gym, she had given him a few pointers and even sparred with him from time to time. He could have easily asked someone within The Syndicate for help or used the gym at the Estate, but Rhys liked being out at the gym in the city. Helped him stay alert and keep the others updated on any changes since the assault on The Initiative. Hiding in plain sight, and all that.
Maybe his mind had been too focused on the current events, maybe he was thinking too much about how this would impact Sebastian since Rhys was involved as a member of the Syndicate. But his punches were getting sloppy, mind out of focus of its target and he was just about to catch on to that when he heard a voice from his left. The stranger literally snapped him out of his overthinking, making him take a step back and quirk a brow in her direction. He definitely hadnât seen her around before, but it wasnât going to stop him fromreplying back. Besides, it seemed like she was offering to help.
âSorry my terrible punching offended you,â he teased with a quick smirk, giving a nod toward the woman, âcare to show me the error of my ways?â
The man snaps out of whatever daze or fog heâd been in and sasses her -- he sasses her -- and then steps aside so she can show him where heâd been fucking up.
Oh, she likes him. She likes him a lot.
Not that sheâs gonna tell him that.
âYour terrible punching offended me and my bag, and I really canât have that. So come on.â She walks backwards to the center of the room, beckoning to him with a nod of her head. âObviously you need focus.â
She figures throwing punches at something that can punch back will draw more of his focus than throwing punches at the bag, and that will definitely improve his form and his aim. She can tell heâs had some training, so sheâs not worried about teaching him any basics. She just wants him to pay attention.
She smashes the two pads together then holds her hands out, her feet planted to keep her stationary.
âLetâs try this again. Do your worst.â
âIâm sure you do.â
He doesnât argue her self-assessment, even if it doesnât answer the question. Itâs nothing all that suspicious, not when LA draws a very specific kind of person. Not just the kind heâs hunting for. This might be his first time in the city, but he doesnât need to stand on itâs streets to know itâs home to throngs of people with big dreams.
Maybe she left her home to be an actress, a model, a musician. Any number of things that might put her name in lights some day, and itâs probably the safer assumption than a mutant in her DNA.
Itâs still always his first one. And it doesnât hurt to ask.
âWhat brought you out here?â
Her generic answer about needing a fresh start isnât actually a false one, but itâs vague enough to answer the question without revealing anything important.
Nyx knows heâs fishing for information, though she canât say exactly why. But heâs not flirting with her either, not asking about her out of any sort of interest. And he doesnât feel like police...
Sheâs glad that Jaxon isnât with her -- this man should never, ever be within eyesight of her son.
âWhat brought you out here?â she counters. âYou donât answer nearly as many questions as you ask.â

âOf course.â Thereâs no point in dwelling on it any longer. Nyx was the one person sheâd known she could count on and for years sheâd been the only one that Ariadne had been able to trust. She knew this time wouldnât have been any different.
Grinning she moved on. âHeâs gonna be bigger than you before long then.â A frown sits on her brow briefly, as her friend doesnât finish the sentence but she knows whose name should be there. âGood, he deserves to be happy.âÂ
âHow long have you been in LA?â she asks. If theyâve been here the same amount of time and have just been missing each other, Nyx is gonna flip. Things wouldâve been so much easier with Ariadne around...Â
Ariadneâs comment makes her snort, and she shakes her head laughing. âThatâs not hard,â she replies. Her own frown forms once she sees her friendâs, and she knows instinctively that her slip up hadnât gotten past the other woman. Sheâs too smart and knows Nyx too well for that. She sighs. â.......He doesnât know weâre here. .....I didnât tell him we were leaving.â
