if lagna represents the thought process and overall personality structure, lagnesh represents the logic behind that personality. in other words, lagna is how a person thinks and reacts, while lagnesh is why they think and react that way.

this is why lagnesh compatibility is considered even more subtle and psychologically revealing than lagna compatibility.

astrology itself is not something to be believed in or not, it simply is. what you choose to believe in is whether it feels important or accurate to you, which is subjective.

as for whether it should be followed, that depends entirely on how it is being used and with what intention. in most cases, people use it as a confirmation of pre-made beliefs, a way to stabilize the ego, to give form to uncertainty, to turn irrational thoughts or fantasies into something that feels structured and tangible. in that sense it becomes self-reinforcing rather than revealing. but in a more rigorous use, it should not be about confirming anything at all. it should be about seeing clearly, recognizing life objectively and stepping out of subjective distortion as much as possible.

that also means working against ego-identification, not feeding it. astrology (when taken seriously) can function as a way of observing the self from a third perspective, where you are not trying to validate the self but actually question it, slowly loosening identification with it rather than strengthening it.

i think there is also too much emphasis on the predictive side of vedic astrology. prediction easily turns into another way of trying to secure something externally when you have not even grounded yourself in the present. and how are you meant to foresee anything clearly if you don’t actually understand your present state of being? most “prediction” is just projection extended into time. vedic astrology is not about that. it is about recognizing life as a structured whole, like through mahadashas, nakshatra sequencing, the sequence of planetary lords and the logic of cycles themselves.

Since you do use Vimshottari lords, I was also wondering about your take on gandanta points. I don't quite understand the transition from Mercury to Ketu nakshatras. Each of these karmic "knots" has individual themes running but what do all three have in common and what does it say about the relationship between these two planets, in your opinion?

as for your question, i don’t really see gandanta as a “karmic knot” but more as a brief rupture in continuity where one mode of perception dissolves before the next one fully stabilizes. in vedic terms, the water–fire gandanta is especially significant because it marks a shift between two fundamentally different ways consciousness organizes experience. water signs tend to dissolve boundaries and hold experience in a fluid, undifferentiated way, while fire signs impose form, direction and definition onto that flow. so the instability at gandanta isn’t obstruction in a moral or karmic sense, it’s what happens when perception is no longer carried by one principle and hasn’t yet fully entered the next. what all gandantas share is this transitional gap between two cognitive architectures. during that gap, continuity feels unreliable because the structure that normally translates experience into meaning is being replaced mid-process, and mercury–ketu gandanta is the most complete expression of this because it spans the entire interpretive cycle of cognition itself. ketu with ashwini represents the most immediate form of awareness as in experience before reflection, before language, before segmentation. it is perception as pure arrival. there is action, but no translation of that action into narrative yet. mercury in revati sits at the opposite end of the cycle. by this point, experience has been fully processed into language, memory, pattern and meaning. revati has this quality of completion. not just ending, but rather saturation, where everything that can be understood has already been understood through symbolic structure. so the transition from mercury back into ketu is not linear movement, it’s a collapse of the interpretive loop back into its origin state. what mercury builds through naming and differentiation, ketu dissolves by existing outside the need for naming altogether. the reason why this gandanta feels unstable is because one system is still trying to sustain continuity through structure, while the other no longer requires structure for experience to exist. the overlap creates a brief break in the “translation layer” of consciousness.
